Six Years Ago…….
I rolled my eyes at the trashy sign Zeke was holding. Laughing I made my way to him.
“Nice sign”
“You said you wanted me to pick you up. You however didn’t specify how. Come on, I have a very nice bottle of wine calling for us”
“Well lead the way then Mr Matthews”
Zeke laughed and I followed him the car waiting out the front of the airport. I was so glad to finally be in New Haven, ready to start a fresh at Yale. I needed to be able to let my hair down but prove to my father that I can run the family business without him. I arrived two days earlier to spend some much needed beneath the sheets time with Zeke and so I could scope out any potential guys. I was going to go through the next four years as stress free as possible and to also rustle up some skirts.
Zeke was here on some shady business trip of his. He won’t explain the details to me and its fine by me. The less I'm in his business the less I will have to deal with him in the future. For a guy almost eight years older then me, he sure is a pain in the arse. We arrived at the hotel he was staying at and headed upstairs. A few bottles of wine later, we were Bothe snuggled under the sheets.
The next morning, I woke up alone and cold. Typical of him to leave early. I showered and dressed, before calling for a car to take me to Yale. I registered when I got there, not even the slightest bit surprised when I received my paperwork. Dad always got the best his money could but. I heard the other girls whisper behind my back. I knew I should have just taken the cheque of money and done all of this by myself. Event he apartment off campus deal sounds good. Stupid family name getting me everywhere and everything I don’t need. I would have preferred to dorm with someone to get the whole college experience but no, dad had to pay for the single dorm. Sighing I unpacked my stuff alone and I spent the rest of the day alone as well. I was almost going to cry into a ball of self pity when a small knock came on my half open door. A curly red haired girl with bright green eyes, popped her head in and smiled.
“Are you the new rich girl?”
“Unfortunately”
“Good get dressed, we are going out”
“Dressed how?”
“Trashy is possible”
I stared at the girl blankly, hoping to god she was kidding and playing an awful prank of me. Then she started to tapped her foot against the carpet and I realised she was dead serious. I mean I could use the company right now and by the looks of how she was dressed, we were going to a off campus party. Just what I needed right now, more alcohol. I was still hungover from last night. I rushed into my closet and tried to find that little black dress that I bought because I knew my father would disapprove of it. I grabbed the heels that went with it, ruffled my hair and applied a think layer of deep purple lipstick”
“Trashy enough”
“Yes girl I’m Miranda and I need you to get me into this billionaires party down the road”
“How the hell am I meant to do that?”
“This is the only time that I ever want to hear this word every come out of her mouth. I want you to play the daddy card”
She pulled me down he corridor, before I could even ask what the hell the daddy card even was. She kept pulling, until she pushed me into a limo that was airing out the front. We didn’t talk for the short drive down the road and when we pulled up, I knew exactly where we were. I rolled my eyes at Miranda and she gave me a confused look. The door opened and I stepped out. The camera used for a second before they continued on, when they noticed who I was.
“Miss Martin, can you pose for a picture?”
“A picture for the daily news Miss Martin?”
I smiled, wrapping my arm around Miranda’s waist, smiling my life away. Miranda seemed to love the attention and posed with me. We reached the door and I didn’t even have to ask. The guard opened the door and I pulled the speechless Miranda in.
“How the hell did you do that?”
“I’m a billionaires daughter, I’m invited to these things all the time”
“Oh”
I had gotten the text yesterday when I landed. I knew Margo would not be pleased to see that I had rocked up announced. And there it was. The shock was written all over her face when she spotted me. Keeping Miranda on my arm, I walked over to her. We greeted each other, rather robotic like but I can’t disrespected her in front of so many guests.
“Margo darling. I know I said I wouldn’t come but my new friend here, was just dying to get in and she had no date. Run along now Miranda, have a ball”
She gave me a tight side hug, before running off. We both watched her leave, before I started to walk away.
“He’s here tonight, so try and keep a low profile”
“Who do you think picked my up from the airport?”
“You need to stay away from my boyfriend”
“He’s not your boyfriend yet Margo and I’ll be sure it will stay that way”
She was ready to slap me but we both locked eyes with Zeke. She cussed under breath and left me alone. I gave him a sly smile, making my way over to him. I loved pissing her off. She used to be rather close to our family until she found out I was still sleeping with Zeke. She likes to call him her boyfriend but he keeps telling her that it’s only business and he gets to sleep with whoever he wants. My mother disapproves of our, lets call it friendly banter. But Zeke did wonderful things to me. He pleased me when my father was being an asshole. He pleased me when my mother goes off the rails and he please me when Rose gets more attention over me.
“Are you stirring my girlfriend up again?”
“Oh, your girlfriend, have we moved up in the relationship now”
“Shut up Martin. Stay out of my way tonight. You really shouldn’t be here tonight”
“Why?”
“There are some rather dangerous men here”
“Oh, well why didn’t you tell me earlier. Looks like I’m going to have fun tonight”
Before he could stop me, I waltzed away, on the hunt to find the biggest, baddest man I could find. And find him I did. A few hours later, I was sitting in a group of rather large men, laughing away. They were such gentlemen, despite the looks and the tattoos.
“We didn’t get your name princess?”
“My name? I think you can call me S”
“S?”
“Can’t have people finding out who I truly am can I?”
“Your smart, we like you”
“Well then can we talk business then”
The room we were in grew quiet and I grew a little scared but a didn’t dare show it on my face. I really wasn’t going to bother coming to this party but I'm god I did. I was going to wait until my second year into my business course to finish off my side business but I think it would be better if I get a grip n it nw before the cops dig into it.
“What kind of business?”
“I ran a very, very small drug cartel back in Texas but I wanted to expanded while I was in college, do you think you fellas can give girl a hand”
“What kind of experience do you have?”
“No field experience yet. Like I said it’ incredibly small. A two man team"
The door to the room burst open and there stood a furious looking Zeke. Why was he down here?
“Mr Matthews, what brings you down here?”
“Zeke, darling, how on earth did you find me? Was trying so hard to hide from you?”
“You two know each other”
“Yes, let’s go”
Zeke moved to grab my wrist but I slapped it away. I could see the anger written on his face. I was a little drunk but not stupid drunk. I felt so good.
“No”
“Let’s go”
“No, I like where I am”
“I said let’s go”
He grabbed my wrist and started to pull me up, but I tried to wiggle out of his death grip.
“No, let me go”
“I believe she said let go”
Four of the nearest guys stood up, making Zeke tremble away from me. I laughed and Zeke looked at me funny. I touched the shoulders of the men and they sat down.
“What’s going on here?”
“A simple business transaction and if you get in my way, I will not hesitate in making you my very first victim. Someone please escort Mr Matthew out, I believe he interrupted a very important meeting”
@@@@
I stared at my family as they watched me light up my fifth cigarette, with shell shocked eyes. This was the g rated stuff. There was so much worse that I had to tell them. I would have to skim over the stuff Peterson made me do while I with him. There was no disinfectant that could scrub away those memories from my skin.
“So this all started with drugs?”
“I didn’t even know you ran a drug cartel”
“Like a said it was a two man team”
“Who was the other man?”
“He’s not important”
“Why not?”
“Well, he’s dead. Any more questions?”
“Whose Zeke?”
I put out the cigarette and faced Owen. Sometimes I forget that even though he was by my side, he knew so little. I would have preferred it to stay that way, that way I can let him go free at the end of the contract. But the more he knows, the more likely I will kill him when the time comes, and even that thought saddens me.
“You know him as Mr Matthews. Rarely anyone but me and his wife call him by his first name”
“Like you?”
“Yes like me. He is one of my many business partners plus my on again off again lover”
“Why are you telling this to us?”
“Because you fucked up dad, and if I had it my way, you lot would all be dead and buried behind the green house. Look it’s late and I must let you all go, I have a big day tomorrow and I really need to sleep”
They all got up to leave, including Owen. I narrowed my eyes at Rose and she nodded her head. We had a whole different story to tell and it was a story that I had no right to tell our parents. I walked them to the front but stopped them before they got into their car. They faced me and I dropped the caring family facade once again. They looked terrified of me and that’s exactly what I wanted.
“I will give you one warning and one warning only. If any information I give you or even my real name gets leaked out, I will kill you with my own hands"
