CHAPTER 7
Oliver
We finally made it out of the main crowd of people from the cafeteria and spotted the kid who spotted the wolf. He was surrounded by people asking him questions about the wolf, about what it looked like. " it was pretty huge! with all dark fur and green eyes!" he explained using his hands to explain the size to us all. While he was doing that Finn walked by with his other jocky buddies and Bella making snarky remarks. " Oh, the wolf! the wolf is going to eat me!" Finn said in a high-pitched voice and laughed with his friends. " only scare cat run away! I bet there wasn't even a wolf in the first place and you are just making it up!" he said in a deep tone as he walked by to his next class with Bella. " There was a wolf! I know it" he pleaded as everyone walked away leaving him alone.
After most people left Harper walked up to him and I followed. " hey, don't worry about what everyone else thinks but I believe you, and so does my friend" she said with a smile. " I was just wondering if you could tell me what happened, my name is Harper" she says eagerly. " yeah, I'm miles and well it was after gym everyone always leaves me to put the equipment back in the shed right next to the woods. I was always worried about it since we lived in wolf country but they always said there are no real wolves out here with so many people around, until today I guess" he replies fixing his glasses. " could you tell us what it looked like? i love animals!" Harper said holding her books to her chest, kinda blushing. This is something we learned in training, how to flirt with people to get exactly what you wanted.
" yeah well, it was huge and I almost ran right into him, at first he was looking at the school, maybe looking for food since the dumpsters are near by. his fur was all black that I could tell and he had very green eyes" but I didn't stay long until I ran inside" he said fixing his bag to get to class. Soon the bell rang, " one last question before you go back, because I think you are so brave and everything" Harper says while we walk with him. " do you by any chance know which direction it might have gone? i mean if there's one there might be more, and the wolves should have a spot to live free in that area, don't you think?" she says flapping her eyelashes. Harper flirting with him was working. making his cheeks all red. " sorry I didn't see where it went, I wish I did, but I have to get to class, ill see you later?" he said to Harper with a big grin on his face. " hopefully, we need more brave people like you!" as he walked into his class giving him a little wave.
She turns around and drops the smile. " well that was a bust, we needed more information about where it went" she says a bit annoyed. " At least we know there are wolves here, right?" I say to her walking to 4th period. " i think so most normal wolves don't just have jet black hair so.." she turns to me " so.. its a werewolf?" i say in confusion. "exactly, don't you remember biology class from training? chapter 9 on how to spot a wolf?" she says to me. " kinda? i barely passed with a C-" i say with a little laugh. " well at least we know something, and ill let you tell your father everything we heard and saw today!" she says all excited with a big smile on her face.
" but you did all the work," I say knowing she is better than me. " I know but it's your main mission, I'm here to help you Olie!" teasing me. we finally got to 4th period a little later but Harper told the teacher that I was new and showed me around so we got off on a warning. As I looked around the room I noticed that the girl who took me on tour was also in this class, I was surprised I didn't see her brother with her. I followed Harper to her seat which had an open space, right behind the girl.
As I sat there I wonder what she was talking to the principal for from the cafeteria, maybe she knows something we don't. For the rest of the day it seems everything seemed pretty normal.The wolf chatters was officially dying down by the time it was time to go. And it seemed like everyone kinda forgot it ever happened or thought it was fake since Finn has been spreading rumors about it.I wonder if that why my father put her with me, even if I'm not the best out of everyone Harper won't let me down.
As we reach my house I could already smell my mothers cooking from the driveway. And I could see my father working on the car. " hey!" We both yell at him. He looks up from the hood and wipes his forehead. He must have been working all day on it. He usually does, he told me it was a good stress relief thing. " hey! Your mother is inside cooking, Harper you can stay for dinner if you want" he replied with a kinda serious tone to him. " yes I would love to" she says smiling knowing we had great news to tell him.
" also, Oliver has some amazing news to tell you today!" She says in excitement smiling all over. " oh really? What type of news?" He says as he's whipping his greasy hands with a rag walking towards us. I take a deep breathe knowing this is the moment I can make him proud of me. First I looked around made sure no one was around besides the three of us. " yeah, today at school apparently there was a wolf there" I say tying keep a serious look.
After I said it there was a moment of silence where he looked like he was thinking what to say next. He cleared his throat and looks up at me with a half smile. " wow day one and my son is already making progress on his mission!" He says as he pays me on my back. " your mother will be so happy when she hears the news" he says starting to walk into the house and we fallowed.
During dinner me and Harper explained what happened during lunch with the whole wolf incident. The whole time my mother was smiling holding my hand being as proud as she could be. " I'm very happy son" my father says to me. For the rest of the dinner we laughed and talked about other things til Harper had to leave. It was an exiting day for all of us. And if we find more evidence of wolfs we can finish this mission and make a difference for the Union.
That night before bed I wonder if the next day would be just as exciting. I wonder if it'll always be this easy for missions. My family was happy with me, and I just wanted everything to work out.
