IT HAD BEEN A MONTH FROM WHEN THE WAR HAD ENDED.
There was no Liam. And there was nothing. The more I considered it the more I realised that there was nothing to help me day after day after day. There was nothing because there was no Liam.
"Weslyn?"
It was West.
He was the Alpha of the Luna Park.
I needed time to heal. And I asked him to be the Alpha in the time I needed.
"Weslyn?"
His history, with the Pack, was bad, but he was a good Alpha.
And I realised that when I asked him. West - the real West and not the man I had met when I returned to Gray Valley - was similar to my father; a good Alpha.
He was a good Alpha.
"Weslyn?"
I looked over at West. "Yes?"
"Oh, thank the Angel."
"What?"
"I had to call you again and again and again to get your attention."
"I'm sorry."
And then, I trembled, as panic rose in me and I could sense the palpitations of my heart, as I realised, I could not see him in the room, with me.
"Blayze!" I screamed. "Where is Blayze? Blayze!"
"He's alright." My brother reached out to touch my arm and reassure me. "Weslyn, he went to the kitchen. He's alright."
I couldn't breathe.
"He would t-tell me if he w-went t-to the k-kitchen."
The door to the room opened.
And there he was.
"Blayze." I got up from my seat and stumbled towards him. "Blayze... You're alright, Blayze."
I stumbled into his arms.
"I'm alright," he murmured.
He smiled at me.
"Breathe." I stared into his eyes and did as he told me. "Breathe in. Breathe out. Breath in. And... Breathe out. Breathe."
And with that I was brought to my senses.
"I'm sorry, Blayze."
I needed Blayze after the War.
With no Liam, I needed Blayze and could not handle it when we were separated.
It was my fear. The fear that Blayze would die.
And I could not handle that fear.
"I... I thought you were..."
"No."
The panic rose in me when we were separated and I could only be brought to my senses by Blayze.
"Hello, Anna."
It was West.
His eyes were on the opened door.
I turned towards the door to see Anna there.
"Do you three have a moment?"
I nodded and glanced at Blayze, before I returned to my seat at the desk.
She walked into the room and placed paperwork onto the desk.
"It would be good, if you or West can look through the paperwork, on the Brown Wolves, when you can."
"Yes, of course, Anna."
She smiled. "So, about the Brown Wolves, there is both good news and bad news."
"What is the bad news?"
"There are Brown Wolves in our Pack that were turned by Gray Wolves from other Packs."
"Which of the other Packs?" West asked in a concerned voice.
"All of Packs. So, to help the Brown Wolves we need cooperation from all of the Packs."
"But not all of the Packs would want to help Brown Wolves."
"Yes... Blayze. That's why it's the bad news."
"Then, what is the good news?" I asked.
"I've treated most the Brown Wolves that were turned by members of the Luna Pack. I went through member by member and did a Blood Exchange between them. The Brown Wolved treated are stable. So, I've treated most of them, but I do need blood from West and Blayze."
"Why Blayze?"
"His blood would have traces of Liam's blood from their Blood Exchange before the war."
A Blood Exchange.
I didn't like that Blayze had to do a Blood Exchange.
"And the traces are enough for the treatment?"
"I believe so."
"You believe so?" I repeated.
"The traces and the healing properties of Hybrid blood should be enough for those Brown Wolves to be treated."
"But-"
"I'll do it," he interrupted.
I stared at him.
"What if you get hurt?"
"Weslyn, please, you know that Anna would never hurt me... Never."
"I know!" I exclaimed. "But you're not a Gray Wolf, Blayze, and you were in pain when you had the Blood Exchange with... Him."
"I'm a Hybrid... Remember? Half Brown Wolf. And... Half Gray Wolf." He smiled at her. "And I was in pain, because that Blood Exchange activated my Hybrid characteristics."
"It's alright, Weslyn."
"No, it's not alright!"
There was silence.
Blayze let out a breath.
He turned to Anna.
"I'll do it, Anna, but I need a moment with her."
"You know where to find me." Her eyes shifted over to West. "You, too, West."
He nodded.
And with that, she walked out of the room and closed the door behind her.
"You can't do this, Blayze."
"Weslyn-" he began.
"I don't want you to get hurt."
"I could get hurt, Weslyn, but think of those Brown Wolves who will get the Illness and die, within years, if I don't do this?"
"But, what if you... Die?"
"I die if I die. But... I can't allow them to die. I don't want that. And I don't want that on my conscience."
"You can't die on me," I muttered.
"I will not die. I will fight, with everything I have, if I get hurt. And... I will not die. "
I could feel it.
I could feel through our Bond that it was true.
He would fight. If he got hurt... He would fight.
He would not die while he could fight.
It was true.
But...
"I can't allow you to do this."
"What?"
I turned to West. "Take him prisoner."
He didn't respond.
"West?"
"No, I can't do that."
"Why?" I demanded.
"It's not what you want, sister."
I gritted my teeth.
"West," I commanded. "Take him prisoner."
He didn't move.
"I know how you feel."
"No. You don't know."
"It's fear. What you feel is fear, Weslyn, and that's normal. You know... You know what other Gray Wolves don't know. You know how it feels when your Soulmates dies. You know the pain. And you know... You fear the pain. Because... Liam did die." He paused." And, now, you are in fear... Again. You fear that Blayze will die as Liam did. You fear the pain, that would consume you, if he dies. And that's a normal thing to feel. So... You commanded me to take him prisoner because of that fear. You want it to protect him. And you believe it will protect him. But it will not... Weslyn. It will protect you... It will protect you from you fear but not him. And that is not what you want."
"You don't know, West. Really... You really don't know. How could you know my fear? How could you know my pain? Do you know how it feels to have your Soulmate die... No. You don't know. You don't know because your Soulmate did not die."
"He is his own person. Can't you see that, Weslyn? When you see Blayze, now, I know you don't see him, you see Liam. But... Blayze is not Liam. He is his own person. And it's Liam and his Soul, which haunts you. Can't you see that, Weslyn?"
"So, what if he haunts me?"
"Weslyn, it is because he haunts you, that you see him in Blayze and are in fear that he would die."
I looked up at my brother and recognised his concerned expression.
"You need to have the Ceremony to send him off."
"No!"
"Please... Weslyn."
"Leave," I growled.
"But-"
"No! I said no! And get out! Leave! I need to send him off? No... You don't get to tell me that, West. No! You don't! And you don't get to tell me that until your Soulmate dies." I let out a breath. "Get out, West."
He hesitated.
"I will leave," he whispered. "I know you don't want me to leave, Weslyn, but I will leave because I have to help the treatment of Brown Wolves."
And then, I watched him leave the room, in silence.31Please respect copyright.PENANAenrRkePxkn
