Harper's POV
"Mom? I'll be on my way to school now. Bye!"
"Okay, Take care!", my mom said.
I grabbed the house keys and exited the house. I checked my watch and realized that I still had 30 minutes before class starts.
Maybe I should go to the park nearby and read for awhile.
I walked along the sidewalk then crossed the street. I walked straight and turned left at the corner of the sidewalk. I finally reached the park. I found a bench near the mini-bridge and sat there. Reading here makes me relax since I could enjoy the cool breeze.
I continued reading from where I left off. After a while, I checked the time and it was already 7:50, which was 10 minutes before class. It was a good thing I live near the school I was attending. I stopped reading and kept my book in my bag. I walked away from the park and went to school.
I arrived at the classroom in just one minute before class is starting. I sat with my friends at the back right corner of the room. I arranged my things on my desk and placed my below the English book I brought out. One of my friends, Kiera, is not here yet so she might be a bit late for class. Our English teacher has arrived and sets her laptop and her books on the teacher's table.
"Good morning, Class 1-B!", Ms. Aikman greeted.
"Good morning, Ms. Aikman", the whole class stood and greeted.
"You may now take your seats. Today we will be reading and studying on a new book. The book's title is Jane Eyre. We will be thoroughly discussing the book. We will divide it into four chapters each. Please read on the first four chapters today and if you are done, please wait for the others to finish.", Ms. Aikman instructed.
I kept my English book since we did not need it. As soon as we all brought out our books, Kiera has finally arrived at the back door of the classroom.
"Good morning, Ms. Aikman! Sorry for being late today. My mom made me run an errand in her office and it took a while.", Kiera greeted.
"Good morning, Kiera! It's okay. You may ask your seat-mate about what we are going to do today.", Ms. Aikman greeted.
Kiera sat at the empty seat beside me and asked me what to do. I told her about the readings we had to do and she thanked me. She told me that during our short break later, she will tell me about the errand her mom made her do. After our short conversation, I started reading Jane Eyre. It was a bit thick but I think I can manage since I love reading books. I finished the first four chapters after 10 minutes. I looked around the room and saw that only a few of them are not yet done reading. I used this free time wisely by reading up on the next lesson in the English book.
After 5 minutes, our teacher started discussing the chapters we have just read and asked us a few questions. The chapters were mostly about Jane living with her aunt. Jane is being mistreated by her aunt and the rest of her relatives. We had the discussion for about 15 minutes. Ms. Aikman told us that we will end our discussion now since it was already time for our next class. We said our goodbyes and walked to the Science classroom.
"That class was a bit boring wasn't it Harper?", Kiera asked.
"Well, not really because I've been wanting to read that book. It's in one of my reading lists this year.", I replied.
"That's cool! Since I don't love reading as much as you do, you did have a fun time then. Let's talk about my mom's errand later, 'kay?", Kiera said.
"Okay!", I exclaimed.
The Science classroom was still locked since the teacher is not ready yet. We waited for a few minutes and he finally opened it. He apologized since a student from his previous class asked him a question from the experiment they all did together. He let us all in and greeted each other. Since we were doing an experiment today, we all wore our lab coats and lab goggles to be safe from the substances we are going to use. We started doing the experiment and ended at 10:00. We said our goodbyes and it was the start of our short break. We left the classroom and walked towards the cafeteria to eat some snacks and chat. Kiera and I sat near the cafeteria door so we that we wouldn't be late for our next class.
"Hey Harper! This morning, my mom told me that I might be late for class since she made me bring files to her office before going to school. There were a lot of files to bring so I brought a few from time to time. I had to go back and forth from the house to the office. That's why my legs are quite sore. Anyways, it was a good thing my mom's office was a few blocks away from our house so it was quicker. Were you late for class, Harper?", Kiera explained.
"I wasn't late. I was 30 minutes early so I went to the park to read a book. I left at 7:50 and walked to school. I arrived at the classroom one minute before class starts. I'm not always late, you know.", I said.
"Wow! You are suddenly so punctual. Back in middle school, you were usually late. Was it because you lived far?", Kiera asked.
"Yes. I lived a bit farther from the middle school we used to attend in. We just moved to the neighborhood near this high school so that I wouldn't be late anymore. I also wanted a neighborhood that had a nearby park where I can relax with the cool breeze. I was also planning to work on two part-time jobs in the meantime since my dad is having trouble finding work.", I replied.
"Wait, you are working part-time? What are the two jobs you are planning to do? There's a nearby grocery story behind the school and a coffee shop that's just a few blocks near you house. You can try those two.", Kiera suggested.
"I was planning to look for jobs in the park. It would be easier since I do not have work experience. Nowadays, those jobs require that the person is experienced. I don't so I would have to look for simpler jobs.", I explained.
"Okay then. I can help you look for jobs in the park. Let me handle some things for once. I owe you a lot after helping me with school work and helping my mom before. You know, when my mom was down because she was having trouble with her workload at the office. Thank you for that.", Kiera decided.
The bell rang and it was time for classes to start again.
"Thank you, Kiera! Now let's go to our next class. We wouldn't want to be late now.", I said.
We stood up and left the cafeteria and walked to our next class.165Please respect copyright.PENANAV6o48CFBbn
