As the Class-32 Mammalian grazed the sapphire skies of Palis, Fireteam Limpaed prepared for whatever might follow.
The person in charge of the squad, Cutlass or Limpaed-One, had been briefing everyone on the details of what was to follow with her blue, cobalt and biege helmet on the entire time. "Remember, heads down and prepare to fight. We don't quite know if we'll be up against anything, but there are high chances we will be."
The city of Valvotik's primary relay station was offline. The Galactic Defence Armada had sent two squads of troops and a repair team; all of them were now MIA. It was down to a group of supersoldiers to unearth the cause, and to get the station back online.
Wren was the next one to speak; she was Limpaed-Four and the eyes in the sky. She had grey armour. "Probably the local insurrection. I have doubts it would be anyone else."
"I mean, the Red Star Riders are running low on equipment after their last invasion; which was foiled." That was Limpaed-Two, or Tommahawk. Tommahawk was a supporting unit that weilded a huge plasma cannon. His armour was black with yellow accents.
Cutlass quickly replied to that. "And Palis is an Earth-sized planet. It would most likely be foiled by the fact that Palis has so much military coverage."
Then it was Limpaed-Three who spoke; Halycon. "True, but we don't take chances here. Hope for the best and expect the worst." Her green visor worked well with her green armour.
"LZ is clear; squad one, you're off." Limpaed was being divided into two squads, the plan being to have them meet in the middle of the relay tower. Limpaed Five and Six were missing in action, so they were two members short.
Cutlass and Halcyon would move down on the first location, whilst Tommahawk and Wren would be at the second one. Wren had capability, just she preferred being in the air for the most part.
Cutlass got up first, followed by Halcyon as they both jumped down from the Mammalian class shuttle. They already had their weapons at hand, but there were no enemies in sight. However, there were a lot of bodies and blood, which Halcyon noted as she began to try and determine the time of death of an individual.
"Limpaed-One, they can't have gone far; this blood is still as fresh as a daisy." Cutlass was protecting Halcyon's person, before said supersoldier took the dogtags of the deceased unit they had just scanned. Then, they began making their way for the open entrance they had seen whilst landing.
Cutlass aimed her DMR, whilst Halcyon prepared to open fire with their assault rifle. Both supersoldiers took tenative steps forward as they noted the eerie quietness of the place. It was lifeless for the moment.
Bodies and blood occupied the floor, but they noticed a lack of dogtags besides the one outside Cutlass had picked up. The comms were dead quiet, and the only noise they heard was the gentle humms of machinery and their footsteps.
Either way, they continued to try and advance with their mission. They ended up following the corridor to a set of stairs, which they clambered down in. It seems the further they got, the more bloodshed there was.
"Look, One." Halcyon pointed to the floor, where there were bloody footprints. The sheer size of them narrowed the scenario down to three things, all of which were stuff that could kill anyone with ease.
"Armoured footwear, perhaps that of an exomech. We need to be careful and we need to stick together." Cutlass added, before she and Halcyon continued to search the areas around them.
They turned left at the next metal corridor, revealing a server room. The duo split up to search the entire room when Cutlass heard the buzz of her comms, and a voice in her helmet.
"Limpaed-One, I've found the body of Limpaed-Six..." Cutlass' heart sank. She raced on over as fast as her heavily armoured legs could carry her, finding Halcyon and the body ahead. "Clear plasma damage and someone's taken off their head."
"Damn... that was a Lockheed, as well." Cutlass searched for dogtags, not expecting to find them. Sure enough, they were not on the remains of Sparrow and were nowhere in sight.
Halcyon though had found the next corridor in that room, one that would lead them to the middle of the tower, where they could get the station back online and comms working properly again. So they began to progress down the corridor.
That was when Halcyon fell to the floor.
Cutlass ran and immediately tried to take cover, unsure if there were an enemy or anything at all, or even if Halcyon was okay. But even through all of that, Cutlass had known what had happened.
She pointed her DMR around the corner to see a large shadow in the dark hallway taking the tags of Halcyon. They had a blade, long and curved; that belonged to Limpaed-Six.
"Stop right there! Identify yourself!" Cutlass yelled, only to be met with a sinister silence. Thing is, Cutlass was aiming this whole time. The person stood up, blade turned to face her as the unit began walking towards her.
So Cutlass open fired, causing the unit to begin to run as their black armour sustained heavy plasma damage. They lifted up their blade, prepared to slice Cutlass into two, but she held her position.
She heard someone open firing on the other side now, too. Cutlass watched as the unit slowed down and then dropped, in agony nonetheless as screams filled the air.
Cutlass rushed for the blade, grabbing hold of it as she raised it into the air. She slammed it down with force, silencing the piercing cries and screams of the individual. That's when the other unit approached her with a flashlight; it was Limpaed-Four. They both looked down.
Limpaed-Two, formerly Tommahawk, laid strewen on the ground. His plasma cannon was gone, and his plasma cannon was nowhere to be seen. His armour now had red accents as well as the gold and black of his original. The only two remaining members of the squad looked at eachother.
Cutlass' voice was laced with venom. "I trusted you."226Please respect copyright.PENANAJvkCBU9Cuv
