You were the devil, and I was but a fool. The moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were in danger but my heart refused to let you escape my sight. There you were, dressed in gilded plate-armour like a beacon in the darkness. I admired you from afar, circling around the ballroom and disguised myself amongst the crowd.
I dared to glance your way, more than once, noting that your calling card was becoming fuller with every second I hesitated to approach you. Young ladies in sweet frothy gowns flocked to you like bees around honey, but your handsome face was solemn as you conversed. Your eyes darted around the room as if you were looking for someone in particular.
My heart swelled in my chest, choking the breath in my throat. I knew that loving gaze was not meant for me, yet I couldn’t seem to pull myself away. You were a Lord, and I was just another face in the crowd. What chance did I have for you to look my way? Yet, I longed for you to toss me a glance, even if that moment was brief, I wanted your eyes on me.
I accepted the hands of other gentlemen, but not once did I turn to meet their eyes. My focus remained on you while my feet followed the rhythm, weaving myself around the dance floor. As I exchanged hands with my dance partners, I noticed the distance between us close.
You were my last dance of the night, as our fingertips brushed against one another I felt my cheeks warm. You took my hand, resting your other around my waist. Your touch is soft and light, just like a feather.
For the first time that evening our eyes finally met. A smile graced your lips, causing all the air to escape my lungs. The rhythm began once more and together we glided across the ballroom in perfect sync. You spin me away, then back into your embrace, the warmth of your breath on the nape of my neck.
‘There you are, I’ve been looking for you everywhere,’ You whispered in my ear.
‘I was hoping you’d save the last dance for me.’
You cupped my cheek and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, 'I wouldn't want anyone else,' You said banishing every negative thought I’d had that evening.
In that instant, I was hooked on you, as your arms cradled me against your warmth allowing me to melt into your embrace.163Please respect copyright.PENANAJSnTQpnFcp
