howdy!!! There's a Jeff Buckley reference in the issue title for those of you who know it haha. Yeah, I know it's been a very VERY long while since I've made a blog post, for pretty good reason since I've been very stressed out with school and this overall year so far has not been that great for me so far. I was so naive in my new years resolutions, silly me, I had NO idea what was headed my way.
So yeah, it hasn't been that great but I don't really feel like getting into it. let's just say that I'm 19 years old and I've gotten my first white hairs due to stress, something I didn't think would happen to me. But the good news is that things are almost done. I'm almost finished my semester and then I'll be free for summer! (not really since I have a summer job but at least there won't be any more homework or tests:P)
So I actually have a super important midterm tomorrow (organic chemistry is the actual death of me) but since I am the queen of procrastination and I'm probably gonna pull an all-nighter anyway I decided why not make a quick little blog post detailing what I've been up to, and my future plans.
So firstly, I've just posted the last public first draft chapter of AE, chapter 15. I'd say I ended it at a pretty good spot since it's approximately halfway through, though I actually think it might be a little less than 50%. I mean, I can't really tell since I haven't finished it yet but reviewing all my totally organized and definitely not chaotic and disjointed plans, I think it's close enough to halfway, maybe not if you count the epilogue. Spoiler (barely), there's an epilogue!!
If you want to know how much more I've finished, I'm actually on chapter 24! Which is pretty much the cmilax of everything I'd say. Big things are GOING DOWN, not to give too much away :D.
I've also been crafting up tons of ideas of new stories to work on after I'm officially done AE. And it's hard because now I have no idea which one to settle on! I know it's technically possible to do more than one, but with me being a full time science student I just don't see that happening, plus, I also have to work on editing AE and writing cererbres state! Sometimes I feel like CS is the forgotten child because I don't really work on it that often, but it's mostly because it's a reimagined version of an old Youtube series I watched as a kid, so a lot of the main plot points are already made. And I don't really feel comfortable publishing it, even though it will be changed enough and was never really copyrighted soooo
but idk. CS is just for fun in my eyes, although I'm about halfway through the fourth chapter.
My main two competitors for the next epic Grace Venison novel is an unnamed story and a book called "My Red Paradigms" (although subject to change). Both are kind of mystery stories although MRP is much more involved and contains an overarching 30+ story, has themes of identity, cults, mental illness and tackles dark portions of Canadian history (residential schools). My unnamed idea is more of a mystery/ romance that focuses around the dangers of family influencers and children growing up with constant social media attention. It also has cult aspects and focuses on religion as well as family dynamics. So they're similar but not! And I definitely don't think I can write both because of that. I think I would grow tired of writing too many similar concepts and characters. So yeah, I'm definitely conflicted on that, so if one of those ideas seems to intrigue you more than the others, feel free to comment and let me know!!
I do want to eventually write things other than mystery stories tho, lol. I have had an idea for an epic fantasy novel/ historical fiction that I still plan to write someday, but I know it will take so much time to flesh things out and plan, that I just can't see myself doing it justice until I have more experience. So, one day I'll come back to it, hopefully if I don't forget about it:)
I also kind of forgot to mention that my red paradigms would kind of have to rely on the success of my other book being published lol. I mentioned this in another blog post but I want it to contain many interactive and/or physical elements for the reader to have, the most prominent example I can think of being a VHS tape that would come with every copy. This would obviously cost money to make and is something that would probably have to be done by a publishing company and not just be, because to be honest I have no idea how to do that :D.
I find that in my most stressful or draining times, I am able to come up with the best ideas. Technically I am procrastinating, but who knows? Maybe it will mean something more in the long run. One midterm grade may mean nothing comapred to a creative project that I can share with the whole world, right? I don't know, maybe I'm just saying that to make myself feel better because I'm literally procrastinating right now LOL. But maybe I'll update my next post with how my test goes, hopefully it's good!!!
SO, that's all I've got since I should probably get back to work:( I'm so close to salvation I can feel it! It's just a little more than a month away and I am praying for it!!! But until then I will power through, and sneak in some writing whenever I can:) Oops, I almost forgot, the song I'm listening to is, ironically enough, "I know it's over" by The Smiths, which wasn't planned.
