Episode 19 Finale - Rich and Rude
“And everything’s so insane now-a-days!” Matilda said frantically as we stood in the billiard room together. “Don’t you think, Claudia?”
The girl just nodded numbly. “Indeed.” She paused, blinking as if she’d been spacing out the whole time. “What were we talking about again?”
Matilda gave her an annoyed look, and I just rolled my eyes and checked my watch, finding the hour hand ticking past eleven.
“Hey, do you know where mom is?” Aunt Beth said then, gazing around. “She’s been gone for a while.”
“Maybe she’s with the others,” Minister Curtis said then, sipping his coffee.
I just arched my brows.
Was it really time for coffee? It was almost midnight… did this man sleep?
Curtis just lowered his drink. “I heard that the others decided to stay over at the dining hall together to finish the appetizers.”
“Ugh, pigs,” Beth said then, scoffing. “Seriously.”
I gazed over at Sebastian then, finding him cleaning a glass with a cloth. “Is it time to retire?”
He set the glass aside and gazed up. “Indeed, it is, my lord.”
I nodded and looked up at the few guests in the room. “Alright, everyone! I shall return to my chambers for the night. It was nice spending time with you.”
Aunt Beth just gave me a bored look at my kindness, but I ignored it.
“Actually, I’m tired, too,” Matilda said then, yawning as she stretched out her arms.
“Yeah, all that arguing exhausted me to my core,” Claudia mentioned, shoulders slumping.
“I guess I can retire,” Aunt Beth said, gazing over at Curtis and his coffee. “Not sure about him, though.”
“Oh, I can just sit in bed and stare at the ceiling all night,” Curtis said then, shrugging. “No problem.”
“Way to sound so sane, dad,” Matilda remarked.
He just gave her a look.
“Alright, whatever,” I said then, turning and starting out the door and they followed behind me. “I guess the halls are all the same, so I’m stuck with everyone, aren’t I?”
“How unfortunate for your antisocial tendencies, my lord,” Sebastian said then.
I gave him an annoyed look and he just smiled.
“Oh, cuz!” Matilda said, rushing after me before stopping at my side.
She gave Sebastian a nervous glance before looking down at me. “Hi. Can I ask you something?”
“Is it tedious?” I remarked.
“I don’t think so.”
“Then ask. I haven’t got all night.”
She swallowed something hard and leaned forward. “Uhm… about Sebastian. Has he… you know… killed people?”
I gazed over at her then. “He eats souls. What do you think?”
Her face paled immediately as she gazed up at him, clearly to see if he was listening.
He was, though, staring down at her with his eyes glowing a dark red.
Her entire form whitened, and she scrambled backward, clearly in attempt to get away.
“You could’ve lied to her, my lord,” Sebastian said then.
“What fun is that?” I smiled a little. “I didn’t lie nor tell the truth, anyway. I merely hinted the answer.”
He just smiled and gazed forward, and we all continued walking together.
He immediately stopped then, holding out his arm to make me, as well.
I bumped into it before I could react, and then gazed up at him. “What?”
The others slowed behind us, glancing around nervously.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. “Master. Look ahead.”
I just blinked before gazed over to see what he was suspicious of.
My entire being froze.
A man lay crumpled on the hallway floor, eyes rolled to the top of his head as his breaths remained silent.
Blood spread among the entire carpet, clearly coming from a wound on his chest.
My breath shook as my eyes widened, frost covering my entire form.
Sebastian just sniffed the air, lashes lowering. “It smells like almonds,” he said out of nowhere.
I felt my fingers twitch at my sides when I recognized the victim’s pupilless gold eyes and short, blonde hair from anywhere.
The man murdered in the hallway of this ship…
Sir Denver.
