Shadows of Opposition

These dry-mouthed nights, parched and restless, pillared against the sweeter replenishment of cold water, a fleeting sanctuary I can only dream of.
Where I lay my head, I know I will awaken, but the pillows, pristine, unblemished, will soon bear the ghost of my essence, a mark of passing time.
How do we wander, bodies weary, under the shadow of twin looming forces?
Because we are human. Because we are bound to this fleeting, beautiful agony of existence.
We endure the opposition, crave it, because in its dark embrace, we find meaning, a fractured mirror, reflecting all we hope to take and all we fear to lose.
