Rain fell roughly to be pounding against the window while trying to find an entry only to be denied this request, which left it to sound like small rocks striking the glass before sliding down and leaving the impression of a crying face. The dark furious storm filled sky with its rumbling and flashing lightning like angry eyes overseeing the landscape below. Another bolt of lightning flashed which illuminated a darkened luxurious bedroom of a mansion that was lit by scattered candlelight.669Please respect copyright.PENANAmCw2zy3tH3

Soft blankets with silk sheets donned the canopy bed as the floor had a soft white carpet which complimented the painted walls. The walls were a soft sky blue mixed with waves of green and white. The decently high ceiling was a soft eggshell white for an added gentle touch. Paintings of family members and landscape scenery hung on the walls in rich wooden frames. There were even a couple pieces of people dressed so well it could be assumed they were definitely within the higher nobility.669Please respect copyright.PENANARaKQAVVGug

Muffled footfalls sang out as a teen girl briskly paced around the room. She passed a writing desk with its chair and a vanity holding three tall mirrors as well as its bench, all of which was made of fine wood. To the side stood a small table in which to eat meals at if one wished to. It also doubled as a stand which currently was holding a beautifully painted clay figure. The glossy paint shimmered and reflected the dim lights which showed it to be a girl that was sitting down. The dolls eyes were dark and empty with straight pale hair that came to her waist. In her hands she held a purple crystal that was cut into a diamond shape. Her simple outfit consisted of a knee length dress that was a soft ruby, white, and black coloring as well as white stockings with black lace at the top. On the dolls small feet were black shoes in a style that was very befitting of her.669Please respect copyright.PENANAQeP7XeoCp0

As the thunder rolled and rumbled like a bellowing dragon with a hissy fit, inside the quiet room the soft sound of movement that filled the warm night air could be heard if one listened closely enough. A lightning bolt illuminated the teen’s long red hair flowing behind her briskly moving body. She was pacing around the spacious room with a mixed expression on her face of frustration and pain. Her steps increased with her fidgeting hands balling into fists as her thoughts kept replaying earlier events.669Please respect copyright.PENANAnymcZpHsAx

“Why did they laugh?” she questioned under her shaking breath. “Why?” her jaw tightened as did her fists as her body came to a sudden halt. “It wasn’t supposed to be funny.” Her words came out in a soft growl through her now gritted teeth. Her shoulders had tensed and as another bolt struck outside a window, it could be seen she had tightly clutched a sheet of sketch paper.669Please respect copyright.PENANAQGFr8qRSiB

It had transpired earlier that same day while the sun was shining in the clear blue sky. She had been at school and they were allowed out for a break after lunch. Other kids were busy playing ball but she had been busy sketching a loving couple of birds in their nest. During that time she had secured her hair back with a hair tie to allow her a clearer view of her subject choice. The drawing was coming along nicely and was almost finished of the beautiful couple before they had ruined it. She could recall the minutes passing by ever so peacefully as she sketched. That’s it, just a little longer. She remembered saying with pride in a soft tone so as not to frighten them but that was all for naught when a ball came flying, striking the tree and scaring away the two birds before she had fully finished.669Please respect copyright.PENANA4sxZ9Cz1mH

“Hey, what’cha doing?” she recalled on boy asking her as the ball had rolled back to him along the soft grass. “Why aren’t you playing with us to?” she could still hear him asking whilst bouncing the ball in one hand before that sound had stopped. Her face had fallen and she could hear her reply to his questions with irritation in her tone.669Please respect copyright.PENANAnkE1bnCCG8

She moved around the room again as she recalled herself slowly standing at the base of that tree on the school grounds. I was drawing a beautiful sight of nature which, not as if you care, was of two birds nuzzling. She recalled stating heatedly before turning to shoot the group of five her look of agitation. Was that an accident or was it intentional? She questioned firmly although she had already had her guess as to what the answer was and she remembered being correct by his indirect response.669Please respect copyright.PENANAZQQnY4Evcb

She could still recall his scoff at her question and the rolling of his eyes. “Oh don’t give us that.” She winced in her room as she had at that time when he had thrown his ball at her, hitting the tree so the ball would return once more to his hands. “Come on,” he had groaned, “you’d rather be playing with us than doing some stupid drawing. I mean, you can draw birds anytime you want.” She remembered him explaining while looking to the others that nodded in agreement. “You do got a garden at home, right?” The memory of the other four’s giggling brought her jaw to tighten into a snarl with the image of his cocky smirk after he placed his drawn out emphasis on the word ‘do’.669Please respect copyright.PENANAHy9hZ63KPc

She moved her lips wordlessly along with the words replaying in her mind for her answer she had given the boy. “I do have a garden and I could draw them at my home but these two were not at my home. They were here and that was rude of you to scare them away for no good reason!” her grip tightened on the paper as it had tightened on her pencil at that time. She could still feel the small sting from the irritation to her palm from when her pencil had tried to break due to her grip when the girls behind him began giggling. She remembered stomping her foot in frustration before shouting at them in heated emotion. “Fine! If you are going to laugh then I’m going to leave!” that sting of anger remained as did the crushing defeat when a second boy with the five had spoken up to remind her school was not over.669Please respect copyright.PENANAoEIt2XDUnN

“Hey you can’t just go!” the second boy’s call had caused her body to come to a dead halt. “The school day isn’t over and I can bet the teacher, as well as your parents who are shelling out a lot of dough, wouldn’t be so happy you cut out for the rest of the day.” She remembered growling and wishing something would happen to allow her freedom away from them but she did not get that wish. She could remember wishing the day was over but it had drug on slowly. That does not mean she didn’t recall the joy she felt once the day had finally ended and she was able to return home.669Please respect copyright.PENANAIGwWcKDIN8

She sat down upon her bed as she thought about that private school for those of the noble class or higher up to where even some royalty attended. She enjoyed her courses yet hated certain peers she had to have interactions with. The memory of the carriage ride through the capital city brought a small smile to her lips, a pleasant thought remembering the peaceful ride home and the excitement of showing her parents her artwork. She recalled thanking the driver, racing inside, throwing her coat to a servant as she had made her way to her father’s business room that held the royal records, and only slowing to knock before carefully entering in case he was in a meeting.669Please respect copyright.PENANAbSGRQszSfi

Slowly she un-crumpled the sketch to gaze upon it with her soft emerald green eyes as a soft ping of regret stung her chest. “Yes dear?” she heard her father respond while looking up from some documents he was filing. She recalled asking if he was free to see a new piece of artwork she had and was happy when he told her he was. She had flipped through her sketchbook to show him the sketch of the birds and her small smile slowly grew into a soft happy expression while recalling the praise from him. “Hey Emily, come look at what Alanna has done.” She recalled him calling to her mother who had entered from another room.669Please respect copyright.PENANAJMZJESSNB2

She remembered her mother handing him a few treaties to file as she took the sketchbook to look and first frowned before smiling. “This looks wonderful darling, I’m glad to see you’re improving.” She could feel the warmth from her mother’s hug and her response in expressing how glad she was they liked it. The warm happiness began to feel slightly tainted as her memories replayed her mother asking an aid to her father to see what she, their joy, had drawn. The aid had looked but simply shrugged as he went back to writing down any new names for the city’s citizens. “Oh don’t mind Jin. He can be all work and no breaks.” The warm feeling returned as she recalled her mother’s hug before returning her sketchbook.669Please respect copyright.PENANAYfnz8eJnih

She recalled being told to wash up for supper that would be served in a couple so hours and away she had gone, not returning until supper time. At dinner the meal was passing by normally with small talk and with Jin along with another couple aids joining them. A storm had begun and her mother had insisted they ride out the storm there. It was what her mind recalled next that she questioned to be real as, unbeknownst to her, the shadows shifted in her room and a smoky hand began to gently stroke her hair.669Please respect copyright.PENANADzNHagyeJu

She began recalling hearing a noise and after looking down she saw a black fox. She remembered no one else seemed to hear it so she offered it some of the beef off her plate. It had sniffed the food then taken it but had left her with a small nip to the base of one finger before running off with its captured meal. While she applied pressure with her napkin was when she began to notice laughter from her parents and the aids. She began to feel her anger return as she remembered a dish sitting in the middle of the table and that they were busy discussing, or arguing in a joking manner, over what it looked like. Two aids were claiming it looked like a bird but her father and another disputed that while her mother giggled as she called them silly.669Please respect copyright.PENANAVVodykpH1v

She hadn’t left the table but as during that time she was feeling that same strange anger starting to rise inside. She couldn’t place it then nor could she place it now as a thin line of tears began welling up behind her lower lids. “Were they mocking me?” she questioned softly as the shadows shifted and locked her door. She didn’t feel the smoke from the hand near her head enter through her ears but she did wince and closed her eyes tightly when she began hearing their laughter in her ears. She worked to hold back tears as pain and anger began to boil up inside her heart. “Was my artwork and my asking about their thoughts on it so humorous?” she questioned with uncertainty as a couple tears slipped down her cheeks.669Please respect copyright.PENANAViaU6LGwHd

Soft whispers began to echo around her with speaking her name before asking a quiet question behind her. “Why be so sad? Your art is more magnificent than theirs.” The male airy voice praised as a pair of smoky arms and hands formed.669Please respect copyright.PENANAN9R3dKhUWY

“You…really think so?” she inquired while opening her now hazy green eyes part way.669Please respect copyright.PENANAyeRxOOqSE7

“Of course I do. Why should a friend ever lie to one so innocent and beautiful with such a beautiful gift?” she couldn’t think of a reason to answer why he would lie to her. “Don’t show them your hate, not yet. Here, come to me and rest.” His shadow arms began to gently wrap around her as a smoky body began to form to hold her against his chest. “Let us calm the heart you hold that’s filling with such anger and pain.” He purred soothingly into her ear as he gently used other shadows to take the drawing from her loosening hold. “I shall find a beautiful place for your professional artwork.” Sleepily she nodded while her eyes closed so she did not see the shadows starting to burn away the piece of art.669Please respect copyright.PENANAw6FwCk6BBc

She drifted deeper into sleep while the shadows moved to wrap around her body and laid her back into bed, releasing her and allowing their controller to cover her up. A sly grin crossed the smoky featureless face’s surface as he gazed down upon the female. He continued to speak in a soft whisper against those who had laughed at her and had upset her, working to plant his seeds inside her mind. “Sleep well little,” the shadow’s voice speaking her name became static and un-hearable as the shadows grin did not fade, “continue on and soon you…will….” The shadow’s voice faded as the static noise began in with pieces of white noise streaking across the scene on a floating purple shadow orb.669Please respect copyright.PENANA98kZQVqOnx

In another room a man with a fit, tall build and dark midnight black hair sat waiting by his desk with a few strains falling into his sharp violet eyes. He crossed one leg over the other in his dark outfit to blend in with the night and one elbow resting on the smooth wood surface. He grinned when he saw shadows slip inside from under his door and take the form of a black fox. The fox looked up to its master and patted up before making a few small yapping noises to convey information to him. He nodded while ungloving then extending his hand which brought the fox to deform and flow up into the air before seeping into it.669Please respect copyright.PENANAJ02bczVX1v

His fingers curled closed once the fox was in as the moonlight behind him painted his soft skin a pale ghostly bluish white. He chuckled softly to himself before returning the glove to its place. Sitting upright he stood and lifted his hand that had once been on the desk then twisted it while bringing it down quickly like one would a blade so his arm rested across his midsection. The curtains at this same time closed to set the room in a darkness that was blacker than a moonless night.669Please respect copyright.PENANAoscCLiQU2r
