Magic, especially when powerful, could be spotted from far distances away. The air often thickens with the caster’s smell mixed with that of the taste of their spell. It's an invisible bullseye painted on the caster's back. Hunters lived for it.
Magic was dying in the human world, or at least it seemed that way. Years ago, the smell was potent in the air. Everyone appeared to have some kind magic in them, even if they didn’t know how to use it. The world had changed, and now fae were fearful of using their gifts freely.
This sorcerer was close. He was young from the smell of him, partially human, but his magic was old and powerful. It was unlike anything that they had tasted in a long time. It had been years since the rumors of the Prince of Valhalla had been in the human realm, though they weren't sure what had come of his being. But the magic tasted like — hmm — they couldn’t tell the spell's origins exactly. But it was very ancient and very appetizing. It tasted like Valhalla.
It was a delicacy of home.
They inhaled deeply, licked their lips and flicked their tongue across the air to get just a tad more of the taste. A sound emerged from their throat -- it resembled a gruff hum -- and their lips twitched. Yes, they could track this scent for quite a while. This sorcerer wasn’t going to get away without a meeting. And oh, how they looked forward to it.
Hunters, like themselves, lived off of the power of other fae. They were also fae, but they were predators, and they preyed upon the weak and the powerful alike. Any fae that they could find and kill were fair game. Sometimes the reward was not worth the risk. This sorcerer, however, was going to be worth every second of risk.
Esmarina, they thought to themselves as they sniffed the air. It was a city close to the water, something they enjoyed very much, but it was also home to the master. It had been so long since they had reunited with the master, perhaps it was time again.
Yes, Esmarina seemed like a perfect place to be. 682Please respect copyright.PENANAlTmWXzyNIr
