CHAPTER
SIX
Commander Maxim led the remaining seven newly adopted soldiers of fortune to a section of the city’s wall that seemed oddly neglected, covered in vines and surrounded in tall grass and thorny weeds. The private soldiers stood behind Maxim who stood in front of the wall and pulled a silver flask that was covered in green patina, he dealt with a combination of straps and brackets and pins, pulling and twisting and buckling, making sure that the soldiers behind him couldn’t see what he was doing.
Finally, the square cap of the flask popped off like a volcano erupting with a century’s worth of energy, the cap fell on the ground and a thin veil of green fist dissipated out of the bottle and Maxim gripped the flask and tilted his head back and poured the clear liquid into his mouth.
“This guy is nuts, I think I would’ve rather gotten the axe by right now.” Said a tall man with very malnourished features speaking to a comparatively short girl whose long blood hair was tied up in long curly pigtails. She had very pale skin, light purple eyes with long eyelashes. “But you, heh, but lookin’ at you, I glad I didn’t.” his eyes were wandering down her hourglass figure.
She batted her eyes and opened her mouth slightly and scoffed in disgust, “Pfft. Perv.” She quickly turned her head away in the other direction. “I have no interest in you, plebe, but gruffy over here he’s crazy… it’s kinda turning me on.” She let out a short schoolgirl-like giggle.
“You don’t know what your missing broad.” The conversation was broken up when gurgling and belching noises began to come from Maxim, he gargled a liquid and then spat a wad of slimy clear liquid that burned a hole through the wall in the same manner a flame underneath a sheet of paper would slowly singe and burn the paper away. The expanding hole only stopped when it was clear that everyone could easily walk through the ragged edges that looked like the singed edges of a piece of burnt paper.
Maxim wiped his sleeve across his face and looked back, “I’m sorry Daisy but I’m taken.” He said with a smile, “Now follow me, won’t you?” he lead the soldiers through the hole.
“Meow. Playing hard to get. I like it.” She said walking enthusiastically after the commander. Two members of the group followed the rest of their fellow soldiers, one was a rather bigger man, for he was an orc, a criminal of war, a prisoner of war that concerned the human race and their ever-growing conquest to take over the forested country of Meshda, he had giant canine teeth that were randomly spaced indicating much abuse they were clearly visible due to a massive under bite, his skin was dark blue which was tattooed with red stripes and marks on his body. He was rumored to have been found sixteen years ago as one-year-old hiding in a smoldering villa during a human attack on a small village. He was kidnapped and spent his whole life in human prison, abused and malnourished, he was lucky that he had an oddly high amount of testosterone and metabolism that gave him his bulky build, but one day he had had enough and leaped at the prison guard who was scheduled to beat him with a wooden paddle, and grabbed his head plunging his thumbs into his eye sockets so hard that it pierced his brain paralyzing the poor fellow and because of being malnourished began to eat the guard who unbeknownst to him was still very much alive.
The orc, Meek, hit his head at the top of the hole because of him being nine feet tall he exclaimed quietly in pain and frustration before just smashing through the wall with his head, “I hate walls.” He said turning to the man standing right next to him, the wall sealed up after the two entered.
“No shiz Sherlock. They keep you from getting from point A to point B.” The young man next to him was obviously of elven descent, Pietro, had dark caramel skin, pointed ears, and oddly enough sharp fangs for teeth, which was very odd for a elf. To Meeks surprise Pietro grew two more sets of arms from his sides underneath his regular set and stretched them out above his head. The truth is that Pietro was presumed to be a demigod, the product of an unknown god and an elf, he was caught trying to assassinate his current employer, Commander Hiram Maxim himself, only caught after linking a couple of contract kills who was then ratted out by the unknown employer who worked for Maxim, tasked to protect the commander from contract killers.
The group of soldiers walked down a hallway that declined gradually as they walked down the hallway, eventually it felt like walking down a gradual slope the further down they went the more eroded it became, soon it became pea gravel as the slope ended and lights on the walls began to light up a hall carved into a cave, stalagmites hung from the ceiling, similar rock formations grew from the ground.
Maxim led the group down the dimly lit wall, which was lit by square built-in lamps that were spaced every four feet through the twenty foot long hall that ended in an indent that was slightly smaller than the actual hallway, in the indent was a pair of heavy dark green colored iron doors with metal push bars running through the middle doors.
The group reached the indent; with Meek barely able to fit in, “Behind these doors is your new home for the duration of the mission.”
Daisy shoved her slim body through the group of soldiers and stood in front of Maxim looking star struck at mere sight of him “And what mission is that gruffy?”
Maxim took a step closer now being face to face with daisy, ”What ya gonna kiss me?” asked Daisy curiously.
“No miss” said Maxim following up with a quick backhand across her face, knocking her on the gravelly ground, her face inches away from a jagged rock spire protruding from the ground. “I’m here to give orders.” He said turning his back on her and pushing open the heavy iron doors, everyone cringed and covered their ears as the heavy iron doors scraped against the floor.
Daisy looked up to see a hand reaching down to her, “That looked like it hurt a lot” said the girl who pulled daisy up. “My name is Rachel” Rachel, the witch, caught after using her infamous cold magic to sabotage the crops of a military fort guarding a small town that was being preyed upon by witches. While the guards starved and grew weak, the witches swooped in from the skies upon the town while a ground force killed and cannibalized the guards and most of the village.
“I don’t think he likes me…” said Daisy looking down with a frown.
“Look up sunshine,” Rachel tipped Daisy’s head up, “ He’s just gonna need a little convincing.”
“ You’re right I will convince that I’m right for him. No I’m his destiny, yeah we’ll have kids, lots of them, and… and… we’ll rule all of Destery… no… the world!” she began giggling madly.
“Okay, okay honey time to go.” Rachel took Daisy’s hand and pulled her into the room beyond the open doors. The room’s walls were concrete and a single lamp like a bigger version of the ones on the hallway walls was installed on the ceiling. On one side of the room was accompanied with four bunk beds with a nightstand and a lamp on the side of each bunk bed.
Maxim led the group to a chalkboard at the back of the room and picked up a wooden stick that was leaning against the wall. He slapped the board with a loud thwack! “Attention soldiers! I will now be explaining your resting quarters!” He was voice resembled barking from a dog if that hound could speak English; his breath stunk of tobacco and mead. “Daisy and Pietro you will sleep in bunk one, the red one. Rachel and Landon you will sleep in bunk two, the yellow one. Meek in solitary confinement you will sleep in that iron cage." he pointed to a iron box in the corner of the room, "And finally, Naomi and Faith you will sleep in bunk four, the blue one.” He put down the wooden stick. “Now get some sleep in the morning we’ll talk weaponry.”

Damian and Nikola Tesla stood over a wooden table in a dimly lit room with only lit by a dangling light hanging on the ceiling, a thin veil of cigarette smoke lingered in the air due to Damian and Nikola locking themselves in the room marled “Tesla Toy’s” and endlessly deliberating on their master plan to liberate Candon.
Tesla pointed to the homemade blueprint the two had made overnight by to much difficulty, stealthily sneaking around and inspecting the workings of the wall while avoiding the spotlights operated by human guards in guard towers that were located about every fifteen feet. “If we can use one of my Tesla guns to quietly knock out one of the guards, There may or may not be release lever that will open the main gates which in turn may or may not alert the enemy.” Damian looked unimpressed. “Or we could use the grappling guns I salvaged when I was exiting the Rodda.”
Damian looked more intrigued, “But we would have to modify them to accommodate our weaponry.”
“Ha-ha yes Damian brighten up child, I’ve prepared.” Tesla led Damian to the back of the room, to yet another worktable, this one was adorned with pens, rolls of blueprint paper, and a variety of straps and buckles and other materials. Tesla fumbled his sweaty hand underneath the table, before hitting a button with click. A glass showcase slide out from underneath the table, inside the glass showcase a series of straps connected in the shape of a harness, two grey boxes on the side of the waist had gun triggers on the top, two holsters were located on the shoulder straps.
“This is my latest innovation,” the glass showcase stood up and slid up against the wall next to the worktable. “I call it Scaler gear this will guarantee us unlimited momentum while we find our way in to the city. The glass slid open like a sliding door and Tesla strapped on the Scaler gear, “And if we’re were to find ourselves in an uncomfortable situation…” he slid his hands behind his back and pulled out two rectangular boxes, he slid his thumb up on a switch and a sharp one sided blade slid out like a switchblade. “They’ll have to consider us a threat."
