Miser, O Miser! Ye can't try to live So much as forgive!
Miser, Miser, Miser! I lost myself then, Please forgive me my sin!
Here, Miser! I thought you were wiser Than to drink from a fire!
A story about a man who was greedy and stole everything and anything he found of value, only spending the coin when he was required. He hadn't even paid his taxes.
He gives 'food' to the poor, and the poor, over a course of several generations, creates a mighty kingdom that forgets the man's gift. Who even tells the story of this man, if he's dead? Does he have any family? Friends? Employees? ... Employers?
How did he die? Was it an angry homeowner, or perhaps that homeowner's jealous wife, who wanted the greedy (then giving) man's wealth?
The answers are here. Mostly.
