"Mellie, I'm hungry," Denise implored.
Mellie rolled her eyes and groaned. "I'm not going out."
"Neither am I," Denise laughed. "I got the food last time we decided to stay up all night."
Mellie groaned and pulled over her laptop, booting up her only bookmarked website. "I'm getting it delivered now. What d'you want?"
Denise shrugged. "Haven't wanted anything in particular since Max dumped me," she sighed.
"Oh, who cares about exes?" Mellie said absentmindedly as she sent off the order.
"It's Singles Awareness Day, aka Valentine's Day, Mel."
Mellie groaned. "So we'll marathon Godzilla, or something to cheer you up. No big deal."
Denise's face crumpled. "So you don't want to say anything?"
Mellie looked over at her best friend and smiled. "I'm aromantic. Valentine's is ridiculous to me."
"I just...was hoping you could cheer me up..." Denise sighed. "Forget it."
The doorbell rang and Mellie walked out to get the food and tipped the delivery boy wearing a panda hat with the chocolate that her friends insisted on getting her. She walked back in and Denise was crying. Mellie put down the food and hugged her best friend. "You might not have Max, but you'll always have me, okay? I promise I won't ever leave you."
Denise wiped her eyes and tearfully smiled. "Do we have the soda to marathon Godzilla with?"
"You got it!" Mellie chirped, grabbing 2 glasses and filling them to the brim with root beer. "You're better off without Max, anyway. Guy refuses to stop looking at other skirts behind your back."
Denise sniffed. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't have the heart," Mellie admitted. "You seemed so happy."
"Well, you say I'm better off without him, and I'm inclined to believe you," Denise admitted. "And Valentine's has always been better with you than with anyone else."
Mellie beamed at her best friend. "You're the best, Denise."
"You too, Mellie. Cheers," Denise clinked her glass against Mellie's.
"Cheers," Mellie said with a laugh as she turned on the movie.
