I felt a jolt run through my body. My eyes flew open as I gasped. My heart was pounding with a new life inside my chest. I caught my breath and turned my gaze to my captors. It was them. The ones who made me do such awful things to the ones I loved! I lunged forward to feel a great pain spread through my stomach. Coughing, I leaned back into a sitting position.
"Are you done?" A deep voice as smooth as honey directed it's question at me and placed a syringe on the table. I nodded slowly, trying to make out the figure in front of me.
"Good. You have passed the first test." A man scribbled on a clipboard. "Take today to rest, we will continue tomorrow." He turned to leave.
"Who are you?" I asked quietly. The man paused.
"That's none of your business." He shut the door behind him. I slumped back in my seat and sighed. My side ached of the previous nights events. I lifted up my shirt to see a set of gauze covering my wound. Stitches covered my throat as well, which was already healing.
Did all that really happen? How could I do something like that? Impossible, I think. It must have been a terrible dream, and this is all part of it. I'll just wait it out until I wake up. But as the minutes turn to hours my theory gets more and more unlikely. Ugh! What am I doing here of all places, then? It's not very sanitary at all. I think back to the man, and his clipboard. Tests? Was that all this was? Just some stupid test I'm a part of? Honestly, the nerve of some people! Keeping a young soul like me cooped up in a dingy, old hospital room. Hmpf! Frustratingly I tried to get up again, only to leave myself more incapable of movement. Nothing much to do I suppose. Should I risk falling asleep again? And finding another one of those needles sticking into me? As if. They must want me alive after all. I don't want to keep being their bloody test slave girl! Anger courses through me. I could really use something to vent on. Instead I stare at the wall for a good 5 minutes.
A lady with a gas mask rolls a tray into my room. Not wasting any time, she pours a thick liquid into another syringe.
"Do I have to take that?" I ask, unsettled. She only crooked her head at me and laid out her hand. Not having much choice I gave her my arm. Instantly the needle punctures my skin, bleeding slightly. The woman quickly slaps a band aid on it and rolls her tray out of the room. I blink, vaguely wondering what was in the needle. My vision blurs, and I sink into a deep sleep.
I snap awake, on my feet bracing for anything. I'm in some sort of black uniform and set in the middle of four different paths. Not this again... I thought. A buzzer sounds off in the distance. I take this as a good time to run the hell out of here. Forward. A voice whispers in my ear. Looking around me, I see nothing. Hesitantly, I ran down the front most path. The pathway sharply turned to the right, I almost ran into it! Following the paths sharp corners I had the thought that this could very well be a maze. I hoped not, those freaked me out. Stop! The voice sharply instructed me. I screeched to a halt.
"What?" I said out loud. "Got anymore tricks hidden up your sleeve- if you have one, I imagine." Flames blasted straight down the horizontal path right in front of me. I simply gaped open mouthed at them. Once the fire extinguished the voice urged at me. Left! Left!
"All right I'm going!" I sped down the left path and continued to follow everything the voice said. Why? I had no idea. But at least this voice had some idea of what was going on. Panting, I stop for a second. No, go fast! The voice commands.
"I.. can't.." I wheeze.
Go! Almost there!
"I swear I'm gonna kill you once we're out of here, if your even real that is." I turn a sharp left, and see an opening. The end? I thought wearily. Finally! I make it out of the maze and fall to my knees, gasping for air.
"Is that it? Hey are you still with me?" I tried conversing with the voice. No answer. Am I going insane? Probably.
"Get up." the same man from before stands in front of me. I scramble to my feet. "What, the hell, was that supposed to be?" I yell. He only scribbled on his clipboard and smiled.
"Congratulations, you have passed all your tests. Welcome to the lab." I felt taken aback.
"What?" Is all I can manage.
"You applied for a job here, correct? You've been accepted." He snickers. "Not that you remember anything, of course."
"Why would I want to work in a hellhole like this?!" I'm furious, now they're just making up stories.
"Good question." The man scribbles on his clipboard again.
Without even thinking I snatch the clipboard out of his hands and catch a glance at the title. 'Test Sub. No. 372, Sasha Allingmen' on the top.
"So I am just some stupid experiment!" The man grabs his clipboard back.
"You wouldn't understand. Give it a little time and you'll remember." His eyes linger on mine for a second.
"You do best to remember that." And with that he swishes his lab coat away. Other people is gas masks come over to lead me back to the same room I was in before. Now I was sure of it, I knew that man from somewhere. No, that was stupid. I've never seen him before in my life. Or... Have I?
