There she was. The girl. His new sister.
"Wow..." She seemed enlightened by everything in the house as she took her first step in. "This place is... Amazing!"
Jeraud watched hesitantly as she gazed at the photos on the wall.
"It's nothing less than ordinary!" his mother giggled, bashfully.
The girl seemed to chuckle under her breath. “That's gonna change as long as I'm around..."
Mother gasped as she caught sight of her eldest son glowering at the girl. Maneuvering herself to stand beside him, she looped her arm around his own, "This is Jeraud. You'll have to get through his room to get into yours, but that's okay! He won't bite!" Mother growled through her teeth at him. She knew how much he disliked like the idea of a girl in the attic. She knew how much he despised the idea of a sister!
"Hi, Jer!" She chirped, almost excitingly. Jeraud’s expression tightened in distaste at the nickname, and she quickly added, "Aud... Sorry, I had a friend in the orphanage named Jeraud, just like you. We just called him Jer, though, so if I accidentally call you Jer, I apologize ahead of time." Then she just stood there, smiling, as if she expected him to do something.
"Nice to meet you, too..." the teenage boy mumbled unenthusiastically before yanking his arm from out of his mother’s grasp and marching upstairs.
"Jeraud! Where are the boys?" Dad asked before he was halfway up.
"Room. Coat closet." he answered without delay. He figured they could make out who was who.
"Boys?" Jeraud heard the girl ask.
"Yes. Jeraud is the oldest, so he is the leader of the pack. The other two, Edward and Benjamin, are twins respectively." Mother explained.
The strange girl laughed without humor, "I like how you referred to them as a pack..."
