SCP-939 Don’t trust voices
The scp-939 is not one particular being but a whole species of living organisms it cannot be classified under any existing animal classification these subjects share more general characteristics with mammals than any other class of animal as they’re also warm-blooded and they give birth to live young but in contrast with mammals scp-939 do not consume their mother’s milk first female scp-939 do not produce milk and second these creatures do not require sustenance even if they devour an entire person as happens often they’re completely unable to digest their prey these creatures simply lack a digestive system they also lack a nervous system,blood system and sensory organs or that is anything we would recognize as such their breathing system is atrophied because of its lack of organs it may seem like it’s some sort of primitive microscopic single-celled organism but in actuality scp-939 are terrifying to behold they’re huge blood-red hunters with a mass of about 250 kilograms that’s about as much as a female polar bear weighs which was considered the largest land animal before the discovery of the scp when an individual of this anomalous species stands on its hind legs it reaches a height of over 2 meters or 7 feet the monster’s back is covered in needle-like spikes that reach up to 16 centimeters or 6 inches in length its extremities are comprised of bristly clingy paws with four fingers one the thumb is situated opposite the others in the manner of a bird’s claws these characteristics allow creatures to climb any surface the creature’s jaw deserves special attention its structure is comparable to the abnormal deep sea fishes of the chauliodus genus also known as the viperfish the subject’s teeth are located outside and reach a length of 6 centimeters or 2.3 inches this is more than enough to bite clean through a human neck the monster’s skin contains a substance that is analogous in function to hemoglobin however this substance’s chemical composition is not found anywhere else in nature this chemical causes the scp-939 skin though translucent to be tinted red these creatures typically inhabit deep caves some wandering travelers have become victims of the scp-939 by happenstance these predators bit off the heads of the unfortunate victims and swallow them whole but after a tragic incident following the deaths of 28 tourists the fund turned its attention to these dangerous predators and undertook clearing operations in the majority of popular caves later however when a unique characteristic of the scp-939 was discovered it became necessary to occupy all the remaining caves it turned out that the predators can lure their victims further underground even if their victim wasn’t initially planning on traveling further into the murky depths individuals of the scp-939 species are capable of imitating human speech with frightening accuracy the monsters let out christ for help that attract would-be rescuers to their demise in other cases scp-939 are capable of imitating animal noises in general these creatures speak in the voice of their most recent victim regardless of whether that victim uttered a sound in the presence of the monster it appears as though they're able to imitate any voice one of the two key members of the foundation’s HQ suffered greatly because of this in july 2005 at that time voice recognition technology was used in all of the foundation security systems if one spoke with the proper voice one could open any door in the facility one of the scp-939 individuals began to imitate the voice of the foundation’s director who had never physically enter headquarters but whose voice carried the highest clearance level thereby allowing the creature to access any part of the facility it opened the doors and promptly let in its siblings 16 scp-939 attacked the foundation’s leadership in total 23 members of the security team and seven members of the high command were killed 20 special operations crews each consisting of 50 soldiers were activated for the elimination of the creatures seven scp-939 were liquidated and the remaining nine were placed under the most reliable containment conditions they’re currently located in two cells cell 1163a and cell 1163b it’s a rather tight squeeze as both chambers are only ten by ten by three meters cell A houses five males in cell B four females the creatures have been separated by sex to prevent thier reproduction these cells are located in the special armed biocontainment area 14. The hermetically sealing doors leading to the cells are made up of durable stainless steel viewing windows have been provided in both cells for the observation of the incarcerated creatures the windows are comprised of a number of layers of bulletproof glass with a total thickness of 10 centimeters a high voltage metal net has been placed between the layers to provide any creature making an escape attempt with a 100 kilovolt shock the cells themselves are made up of reinforced concrete these safety measures prevent the subject’s escape after the tragic incursion that resulted in the deaths of many of their colleagues the foundation’s leadership decided to phase out voice identification and replace it with other security measures which are currently only known to employees with the fourth level of clearance various tests and experiments are regularly performed on the scp-939 subjects before transporting a subject to a separate holding area a sedative gas is pumped into the creature cell which calms the subject and makes them less aggressive the research is conducted with the goal of taking samples of various parts of the organism’s bodies studying their behavior and learning about how the creatures reproduce. These creatures breed rather actively scp-939 pregnancies last about 12 months but the monsters give birth to litters of up to six the parents do not show any signs of emotion regarding their newborns and make no effort to impede employees of the fund from removing their offsprings and keeping with their uncaring attitude toward their own young parents immediately eat stillborns the young differ significantly from their adult parents their body’s structures and genomes resemble those of humans with the exceptions of their physical appearance as they grow their behavior also resembles that of humans they play draw and experience of guilt if their actions upset adults however it’s quite dangerous to get close to the young even if they show no signs of aggression the reason for this has to do with the manner in which the creatures breathe as i’ve said the organs of their breathing system are atrophied the creature’s organs are not designed to inhale oxygen and they exhale something rather unusual a substances called AMN-C 227 is exhaled by these organisms the chemical composition of this substance falls under class C amnesiacs which are capable of causing anterior grade amnesia in this state a person is incapable of remembering the events that occurred while he or she was under the influence of the amnesiac further he or she won’t remember the 30 minutes after the substance stops acting on the individual the concentration of the aforementioned substance of the body of the scp-939 is low but it is sufficient to impede a person’s memory if they get too close to the organism the amnesiac is capable of causing hallucinations so it may seem to the victim that they were under the influence of a psychoactive substance the amnesiac is of a strategic importance to the scp-939 as it help the victim to return to the predator after the experiments with the amnesiac many of those tested disappeared never to be heard from again it’s likely that they intuitively set off to the places where the scp-939 were gathered in wait for them despite the rigorous study of these anomalies many questions remain how do scp-939 orient themselves without eyes? How can they exist at all without organs essential to living creatures? Why do these predators use such a complicated form of attack if they have no need for sustenance? I’ll answer these questions one by one. these creatures do in fact have sight their simply differs from our typical understanding of sight light-sensing organs are located on the surface of the scp-939’s body these catch light and warmth emanating from the bodies of their moving victims it’s similar to the manner in which some single-celled organisms are light-sensing they’re incapable of recognizing visual images but reflexively attack sources of thermal radiation something similar occurs with regard to sound as a matter of fact this explanation also has to do with the nervous system the creature lacks a brain and nervous system but their skin fulfills these organs functions the foundation’s experiments have confirmed this if you damage a certain area under the creature’s skin this leads to irreversible physiological changes for instance piercing the subject’s skin on their spiny back regions will impede their abilities to perceive light and to properly orient themselves following this treatment the creatures have proven incapable of locating people present in the testing chambers instead throwing themselves at random points in space.
