Everything they say is spoken in Ancient Greek.
*Elizabeth's POV*
I was laying in the courtyard watching the trees blow in the wind. It was a sunny, peaceful afternoon when my younger brother approached me. When his face came into view there was concern written all over it.
"Is everything all right?" I asked him while sitting up on the bench I was laying on. He took a seat next to me and sighed heavily.65Please respect copyright.PENANAkzwq0s1825
"Depends on your definition of 'all right'. The coven is planning on stripping you of your abilities within the next few days...." He stated.
"We have already talked about this, Si. After tonight I will not have to worry about th-", he cut me off.65Please respect copyright.PENANAa7hKcv0k6G
"Elisávet I overheard them talking about separating us."
My body tensed up at his words before I cleared my throat and replied, "Then tonight needs to go according to plan. Is everything prepared for the ritual?"
"Yes, Elisávet... are you sure this is what you want to do? This kind of magic is dangerous," he questioned. "Si please, this is what I want," I assured him. He stood up and held his hand out for me to take.
"Come, let's go to town. We can pretend everything is fine" he offered. I took his hand and stood from my seat.
The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering around town. It became dark when we finally went into the forest to start the ritual.65Please respect copyright.PENANAkMPthcVWaQ
"The moon is almost at its apex, we need to start now. Everything is ready to go we just need the witch" I said, walking towards my brother.
My brother brought the witch into the circle, joining hands with me to begin the spell. I began siphoning his magic and the magic in the elements around us before I started chanting.65Please respect copyright.PENANAqAAbbrO64K
When the chant finished, I looked up to see the moon at its apex. I turned to look at my brother and the crying witch. He dropped my hand and reached for his dagger. He paused, "Are you sure about this? Once this is done there's no going back," he held the hilt out toward me, struggling to keep the witch still.
"I'm positive," I said grabbing the hilt firmly. "Now let's finish this before it's too late," I reached for the witch.65Please respect copyright.PENANARdhFqfNi4d
She began crying and screaming louder than before, "Please don't do this! You don't have to do this Elisávet! I'm begging you, please!"
I looked between her and my brother before placing the blade against her throat. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves before dragging the blade across her neck, watching as the blood spilled from the wound. Her lifeless body dropped to the floor as the fire circle surrounding us went wild before going out completely, leaving us in silence.
I started screaming when I felt my bones breaking in multiple places. My brother looked at me with fear in his eyes, "Elisávet? What's wrong?!"65Please respect copyright.PENANAtzDlZ1KD0Y
My body collapsed as my body contorted. I looked up at my little brother to see he was kneeling next to me with tears streaming down his face. He reached out towards me but I stopped him.65Please respect copyright.PENANADI7Nu6SxAd
"Y-you need to go! Get out of here! Stick to our plan Si," I growled, my body slowly shapeshifting.
He hesitated before standing up, "I'll be back, I promise," he whispered as he backed away from me.
My bones continued to contort until my human body became a wolf. I spent the evening running around in the forest.
I felt at peace like this was where I belonged... I was finally free.
×
I heard footsteps approach me and a blanket wrapped around my body. "Get up," a deep voice said. I felt a foot nudge me and I groaned. "Get up before I get a pail of water and throw it on you Elisávet," the voice demanded.65Please respect copyright.PENANAoq7tGouW8N
I opened my eyes and looked up to be greeted by bright green eyes. I sat up only to have something hit me in the face. When I removed the item from my head I realized it was one of my dresses. I looked up at my little brother to see he was struggling to hold back a grin. "Haha, very funny. Now help me get dressed. My body is aching," I grumbled.
He chuckled, "We need to hurry and get you home, you're covered in dirt." He helped me up off the ground and into my dress. We began to make our way back home.
"So, how was it? Do you feel different? Did it help with your magic? Tell me what it was like," my brother rambled.65Please respect copyright.PENANA7qtx08tZPp
I shook my head and chuckled, "It was amazing. I feel free like I can do anything. I feel different, but I do not know if it helped my magic yet. I have not had a chance to test it."
"What are you waiting for? How about a forest fire?" He looked at me with a mischievous grin on his face. "Come on Elisávet, start a fire," he nudged me. I stared at him for a moment before giving in. I found a clearing in the forest and made a little pile of wood and debris. I turned to look at my brother one last time. He gave me a reassuring smile before nudging me to start the fire.
"Phasmatos Incendia," I said the incantation and watched as the pile of wood and debris burst into flames. The small pile was swallowed whole by the fire. I felt the power pulsing in my veins. This feeling was different from all the times I siphoned from Si or even the Earth. It was intense and euphoric, almost as freeing as being a wolf.
My brother turned to me with a look of surprise on his face. "What?" I asked him, suddenly feeling self-conscious under his gaze.65Please respect copyright.PENANAONJl5lnyiB
"I've never seen someone show that much power with a simple spell like that, Elisávet," he said in disbelief. "What do you mean? I've seen you make bigger fires than that," I said in a confused tone.
"Because I'm the most powerful in the coven. It took me at least 5 different times to get a fire that big on the first try," he sighed heavily. He turned to the fire and put it out before facing me and grabbing my shoulders. "You are officially the most powerful witch in the coven," he said with the biggest grin on his face. His green eyes sparkled with excitement and mischief.
"W-what? Why are you happy about me being more powerful than you? I can not possibly be more powerful than you," I muttered.
Surely he's messing with me... right? I mean it is logical for me to have more power than him seeing as though I'm older, but all my life I have been an abomination. I never had any power of my own. I stole magic from the real witches. From the Earth... I hurt them just so I could have powers like them. It is not my fault I was born a siphon, but with this wolf side of me, I can siphon the spell and do my own magic, like a real witch. I finally have my own powers thanks to this ritual.
I did not realize I was lost in my thoughts until I felt my brother shake me back into reality.65Please respect copyright.PENANAfd9xJYGbBR
"Elisávet? Elisávet?! Snap out of your daze! If you're going to ask me questions the least you can do is listen to my answers. Stop hiding inside your mind all the time. If you're going to hide in there the least you can do is let me join you," he grumbled. He looked frustrated like he was bothered by the fact that he did not know what was going on in my mind. I stared at him for a while, my mind racing with a billion different thoughts.
I was reminded that when we returned home we would have to act like nothing was different. They would still strip me of my abilities, or at least try to anyway, within the next few days. And finally, the fact that after the coven does what they plan to do, my brother and I will be separated. The fear began to paralyze me, making me panic on the inside. I began thinking of all the ways to fix this mess and finally I came up with a plan. The fear soon turned into relief and excitement.
"Elisávet? Are you ok-" he begins, but I cut him off by grabbing his hand and dragging him towards our home. "Can you at least tell me where we are going?!?!" He asked me in a frustrated tone.
"Home."

When we got home I took a bath to get all the dirt off of me before I explained my plan to my little brother. By the time I got out of the bath and was fully dressed, it was already late in the afternoon and the family had left for a meeting with the coven. I entered the courtyard and saw my brother laying on the bench with his eyes closed. I snicker to myself as I used my magic to knock him off the bench and onto the floor.
"Oof," he grunted as he got up and dusted himself off. "Very funny Elisávet, I think you hurt my ass," he mumbled while trying to hide the grin that was threatening to show. I giggled while he tried his best to look annoyed with me. He failed miserably and ended up smiling wide and daffily. I took a seat on the bench and relaxed for a few seconds before I had to get to work on another spell.
"You said they plan to separate us? What if I have a way we can communicate no matter where we are? You said you want to be inside my mind? How about we get in each other's minds?" I suggested. His eyebrows shot up in surprise. Then they furrowed as he began to think about my words.
"Are you suggesting you link us?" He questioned. "Not in the way you are thinking. Our lives would not be linked. Our minds would. We will be able to communicate no matter how far away we are. We will never truly be separated," I explained.65Please respect copyright.PENANA8H8pv3LoeT
"Let's do it!" His entire face lit up as he said that. This is the happiest I have seen him since the coven started threatening me. Genuine happiness radiated off of him and made its way into me. I felt my lips spread into a grin as I watched my little brother, his joy was contagious. I stood up and walked towards him.
"What do we need? If I need to pick up anything from the market I should leave soon," he declared. I chuckled, "Everything we need is already here. It's a simple linking spell. All we need is me, you, our blood, and entheogen. And that grows in the garden. So shall we begin?"
He pulled me into a bone-crushing hug and kissed my forehead. "I love you, you know that right?" he whispered, resting his forehead against mine. "I love you too," I whispered as I gave him a small smile. He stood up straight and grabbed something that was dangling next to his dagger.
"Turn around," he demanded softly. I did as he said and felt him move my hair off of my shoulders. "I made it last night while you were in the forest. I could not sleep so I kept busy. Every time I tried to sleep I kept thinking about them separating us," he whispered as he put a cross necklace on me. I took a closer look at the necklace. The words 'I am with you' were carved into it.
"I am with you," he said as he kissed the back of my head. I felt a couple of tears slide down my cheeks as I turned around and hugged him. "Thank you, it's beautiful. I'll never take it off," I mumbled into his chest. I pulled away and looked up at him to see his beautiful forest-green eyes filled with sorrow and a small smile on his face. There was no doubt in my mind that my face had the same look as his.
We had never been away from each other before. We were like twins, almost inseparable. This was breaking both of our hearts. Within a few days, we would be ripped apart, never to see each other again.
"Come on. Let's get some entheogen and start the linking spell," he sighed sadly while grabbing my arm and tugging me towards the garden. Once we reached the garden he turned to me as I gathered the entheogen. "We never talked about where you plan on staying once the coven does what they plan to do," he whispered.65Please respect copyright.PENANAsuiUDZysve
"Well during my time as a wolf, I found an abandoned home in the forest. It's far out there and it's surrounded by herbs and stones. All kinds of things that I can use for spells and rituals. It's the perfect little place," I rambled on.
Once I had enough of the plant I grabbed his hand and took him to my room so we could begin the spell. I made a circle around us using the entheogen. We sat on the floor, facing each other. I grabbed the bowl in front of me and he grabbed his dagger. He wrapped his hand around the blade and pulled the dagger back, cutting his palm. The blood spilled into the bowl while he handed me the dagger. I set the bowl down and took the dagger from him and repeated his actions. Our blood mixed as our hands joined and we began chanting the spell. We finish the spell and open our eyes.
'I am with you,' I say in my mind. When his eyes light up and his lips spread into a huge grin I know that the spell has worked.
'I love you,' He says in his mind. I smile brightly at him as I stand up and reach a hand out to help him up. He takes it happily and stands up.
The rest of the night is spent with us communicating telepathically and spending time around the house.

Today is the day. Today the coven plans to strip me of my abilities and separate me and my brother. We have been spending as much time together as we can. Our plan for today is pretty simple. We cast a protection spell on me and I put on a show for the coven. Once they think I'm powerless they will banish me. Forcing me to be alone for the rest of my life. All because I was different from them. The morning went by dreadfully slowly, and so did the afternoon. When it became evening the coven entered the courtyard. The leader of the coven, her name was Tara, approached me and my brother.
She had long blonde hair and pitch-black eyes. Her skin was pale and covered in freckles. She had an evil look on her face. Her eyes filled with hatred and disgust. She had a deep scowl on her lips. "Elisávet, I apologize for the sudden visit, but the coven has decided that the best way to deal with your 'situation' is exile," she said in a sickeningly sweet voice. I turned to look at my brother to see he had a grimace on his face.
'It's okay dear brother.'
He looked at me with a sad expression. It was heartbreaking to leave him but if I didn't it would only create problems. I hugged him goodbye.
'Do not worry. I am with you.'
"I love you, Elizávet. Please be safe," he cried. He had tears streaming down his face. It hurt to see him like this. "I love you too, my brother. Stay strong for me. Never give up," I whispered sadly. I tried my best not to cry but it was hard not to. We were being ripped apart. It felt like my heart was being torn out as I walked away from him. I continued to walk towards the forest with Tara following me. When I got to the entrance of the forest I stopped and turned to face her, "You can leave me alone now," I grumbled angrily. She snickered, "Good luck, witches that get exiled usually go crazy and end up dead."
She walked away, leaving me completely alone.

*3 years later*
I had just finished grinding the Opal stone into a fine powder when my little brother barged into the house. I jumped a little, hitting the bowl by accident. "I swear to the gods this better be important! I almost knocked over one of my ingredients," I growled.
"Is the elixir ready? They intend to kill you tonight," he said as calmly as he could. He was freaking out, I could hear his thoughts racing. His mind was going over every possible outcome, mainly focusing on the negative ones.65Please respect copyright.PENANAjOoYlpDuNB
I sighed, "I just need to combine the ingredients and say the incantations and it should be ready. Do not worry, they will not be able to hurt me."
I combined the ingredients and said the incantations. When I was done I went to drink it but was stopped by the sound of my brother's voice, "Wait! I just want to know if you think this is the right thing to do."65Please respect copyright.PENANAoPolNJb3y2
I put the bowl down for a moment and faced my brother. "They won't be able to kill me, so yes I do think this is the right thing to do Si," I said confidently.65Please respect copyright.PENANAfWiO5ArLef
"Okay. Drink up," he whispered. I picked up the bowl again and drank the elixir. Once it was gone I grabbed the Opal blade and said a few words, finishing up the spell. I handed the blade to my brother and he took it hesitantly.
"Do it," I whispered as he got closer. He turned me around and wrapped his arms around me. He kissed the back of my head before placing the blade over my heart. He held it there for a few seconds, his hands shaking like crazy.65Please respect copyright.PENANAkPCFI3UcjF
"I love you," he whispered as he plunged the blade into my heart. I gasped from the pain, becoming limp in his arms. My eyes slowly closed as the life drained out of me.

Everything was loud, I could hear every single noise. I could only focus on one noise though, my little brother's heartbeat. I could hear the blood pulsing in his veins. "Elisávet? Are you okay?" I heard him question. I slowly opened my eyes only to be greeted with a bright white light. It was blinding, so blinding that it gave me a massive headache. He must have sensed that the light was too bright because he got up and closed the shutters.
"Everything hurts and I'm starving," I groaned as I sat up in my bed. He sat down next to me and examined me closely. The closer he got, the hungrier I got. "I think I found out one of the consequences," I mumbled to myself as I began focusing on the vein in his neck. My teeth began to ache and my stomach began to growl.
"Elisávet," he whispered in a low voice. He backed away as I began inching towards him. I could smell his blood, a coppery sweet smell. The underneath of my eyes started to feel weird. All I could think of was his blood. He stood up abruptly and looked at me with fear in his eyes. Why was he afraid? What was he afraid of? Me?
"Eisávet, your eyes. They're pitch black and you have these veins under your eyes... I can hear your thoughts and you're scaring me, Elisávet," he whispered fearfully, his voice shaking. He continued to back away from me as I stood up and moved towards him. What's wrong with me? Is this what I need to live as an immortal? Blood.
"Elisávet, please," he said shakily, his voice breaking as he continued backing away. His back hit the wall next to my bedroom door. He opened the door and ran out of the room as fast as he could. I sped to the front of the house and stopped him before he could leave. The speed I have now is different compared to the wolf speed I had.
"How did you do that!?" He asked. I didn't quite register his question, all I could think about was the blood running in his veins. I wanted to dig my teeth into his neck. His heart was racing, making the sound of his blood pump louder. Suddenly he stood up straight and hesitantly walked towards me. What is he doing?
"I am with you. I'm not afraid of you. If you need my blood, take it," he whispered, his voice still shaking slightly as he pulled me into his arms. The closer I got to his neck, the less control I had over my actions. My eyes began feeling weird again and my teeth started aching as I felt two fangs come out of my gums. I sunk my teeth into his neck and his blood poured into my mouth. I heard him groan in pain as I continued drinking his blood. I wanted to drink him dry but I couldn't stand hearing him in pain. I immediately pulled away from him and sped to the corner of the room.
"I'm sorry," I panted. He turned to me with his hand on his neck where I bit him. "Do you feel better, speed demon?" He asked as he chuckled lightly. I nodded my head briefly and he walked toward me, stopping just a few feet in front of me. I stared at the ground, unable to look him in the eyes.
"You should probably heal this bite mark. We wouldn't want my fiancée assuming the worst now, would we?" He said sarcastically. When I looked up to meet his gaze he had a small smirk on his face. "Let me see," I whispered. He removed his hand from the wound. There were two little puncture marks on his neck where I had bitten him. I frowned slightly at the two holes.
"My blood should have healing properties. If you drink it maybe it'll heal the wound," I said as I bit into my wrist and pushed it toward him. He hesitantly took my wrist and drank some of my blood. He wiped the blood off his mouth with the back of his hand and looked at me expectantly.
"Well? Is it healing?" He questioned impatiently. I looked up at his neck to see the two holes slowly disappear and leave behind traces of blood. I wiped his neck clean before sighing, "Good as new. Like I never attacked you."
×
I was cleaning up around the house when I heard a bunch of whispers from outside. Two of the voices amongst the whispers stood out to me. I felt a rage settle into my bones as I stormed out of my house.
"Show yourself! I know you are here, I can hear you!" I yelled angrily. I felt my blood boiling. The first to step out was Tara, her face alone made me want to set her on fire. I watched as 10 other people I could only assume were people from the coven walk out. The biggest slap in the face was watching my mother slowly walk out. To hear the thoughts of my mother match the thoughts of others broke my heart and fueled my anger.
"You want to kill me? You are my mother and you wish me dead just as they do!" The words poured out of my mouth like fire. "Oh enough with the crying about how mommy wants the abomination, that taints her family line, dead," Tara spoke with venom in her words.
All twelve of the witches surrounded me. Both Tara and my mother stood in front of me. All of their minds were filled with thoughts of killing me.65Please respect copyright.PENANAKoIHdNQztF
"You're outnumbered and overpowered, Elisávet," she spat out.
"Outnumbered? Yes, twelve against one, I suppose I am outnumbered, but overpowered? Are you sure?" I questioned in an innocent voice. All of them were confused. Yet I didn't see Tara's confidence falter and her thoughts never changed. I waited for someone to make a move, but they continued to hesitate. I got impatient so I brought the witches to their knees one by one, leaving only my mother and Tara standing.
Tara smirked, "Aw how cute, but you don't have the guts to kill any of us. You can barely harm an animal let alone a human being." My lips curled up into a malicious smirk as I snapped the necks of all ten witches. I could feel the fear radiating off of the two witches standing in front of me.
I sped behind Tara, pushing the long blonde hair that draped over her shoulder off. I could hear her heartbeat racing. "Your heart is beating like crazy. I can practically smell your fear," I whispered in her ear. Her heart started beating faster and her breathing quickened.
"You are a demon, a monster," she whispered shakily. I laughed, "You think I'm the monster? You exiled a girl who was only ten and four because she was different than you. If anyone is a monster, it is you!" Her thoughts were racing, all of them trying to find a way out of this situation. I grabbed ahold of her neck and bit into it. She screamed out as I dug into her. I could hear her heartbeat weaken, the life slowly draining from her.
When her heart stopped I dropped her body to the ground. I heard my mother gasp, making me turn to face her. She looked terrified, her entire body started shaking. I slowly approached her, waiting for her to make a move. She opened her mouth to speak but I wrapped my hand around her neck, making her go quiet. "You separated me from the only person I loved! The only person that loved me! You do not deserve to live," I whispered, my voice filled with sorrow. I snapped her neck and dropped her body.
I slowly backed away from the bodies. I felt tears stream down my face as reality settled in. I killed twelve people, I killed my mother. I needed to leave, I could not stay here. I felt like I was suffocating, I felt trapped.
I left Greece, I left without saying anything to my brother. He was finally happy, he didn't deserve the pain and suffering I brought wherever I went.

In case you don't know what Entheogen is, it is a chemical substance, typically of plant origin, that is ingested to produce a nonordinary state of consciousness for religious or spiritual purposes, such as hallucinogens for example. The plant that grew in Elizabeth's garden in Ancient Greece was Henbane, also known as Black Henbane or Stinking Nightshade. Henbane is used in traditional herbal medicine for ailments of the bones, rheumatism, toothache, asthma, cough, nervous diseases, and stomach pain. It might also be used as an analgesic, sedative, and narcotic in some cultures. It is also poisonous. It's also known as a witch's drug.
