So, I finally finished a Jane Austen book. Yay!
For context, I read a Jane Austen book ages ago and I did not finish it. I sat through the prose (it was extra hard for me as a non-native speaker and with sentences with phrases strung up like a chain) The main character annoyed me to no end, couple that with my immaturity at the time and what feels like too much beating around the bush. I was only able to finish the story through the movie. ( It was Emma, if anyone is a fan of that book, I apologize)
Now on to Mansfield Park. I picked this up knowing that the main character might be considered a doormat. Thing is, I was sort of looking for reference, how to make a doormat character non-annoying. The Main character feels like a doormat at times but she will stand for what she believes in even if it'll take her some tears.
Other than that, I think no other book has yet made me so irritated recently. There's one character you are intended to hate and they say things I swore I could've heard today. I also discovered or at least affirmed to me that one other thing I hate is suitors(?) who don't understand the word no. There was this one character who saw the MC as a challenge and took it upon himself to harass her into falling in love. What is more infuriating is that the people in the MC's circle think she is so blessed to be the object of that guy's 'affections'.
I couldn't put it down until that was resolved and I'm quite satisfied that by the end, everyone is where they should be.
