“We know what to do. The kit is born; he will be the right one to lead us when his time comes.” Douma looked down the cliff at the Lake of the Living, watching a small, spotted tan-orange tom kit sleeping with his two sisters.
Invincible twitched an ear. “I still don’t see how that piece of fluff could be the leader we need,” he scoffed.
“Oh, he’ll grow,” Douma smiled.
“Douma, what about the kit from your Clan?” The lake flickered to another small kit, a female, in a den lined with warm moss among a snowy camp. “Isn’t she supposed to be his future mate? The one who will also lead?” Nemo shook his head. “I am not fond of prophecies. After this is done, can I just live at the bottom of the sea without any prophecy meetings?”
Akaza narrowed his eyes. “This prophecy is crucial, Nemo. Those kits will have all of us there for him and her. I will watch their strength progress with interest,” he said coldly, looking down at the lake.
“By the NovaPelts, can we just let the future deal with this kit? We can deal with him after he dies.” Zohakuten bared his front teeth in annoyance.
“Oh, don’t think like that, Zo! I think he will be great.” Douma looked at the NovaPelt and raised his grin.208Please respect copyright.PENANASRFjEor9oX
“Well, he is born in my Clan, so maybe I should worry about all the drama he’ll bring to NightClan.” Invincible lashed his tail.
“Everyone, stop. This meeting is over. We will deliver the prophecy message and introduce ourselves to Cheetahkit when the time is right,” Nemo ordered. “If what we foresee is true, we will finally have our permanent leader, as well as defeating the DarkPelts. The future lies in him.”
