The light coming through the window, who’s laying down beside her, has been looking at her wavy bloody hair for a couple of minutes until he decides to touch her closed eyes, she wakes up and her obsidian eyes meet him once again.
“James…” Anais says moving her hand up and down across the bed looking for something or someone. Feeling nothing, she sat up, looking at the empty side of the bed until her alarm went off.
“I miss him… I should probably text him,” she turned around and was about to take her phone until she sneezed making almost all the mucus in her nose come out.
“Great, now I’m sick,” she says with one hand on her face and the other under her chin, preventing herself from making a mess.
After finishing cleaning that sticky situation she got out of the bathroom rapidly, but her line of thinking stopped the moment she stood out of it.
“I was about to do something with my phone… What was it?”
Remembering that she had forgotten something but not knowing what it is, recently became normal to her and with no intentions of dealing with it at 7 in the morning she continued her day.
‘I want some tea.’ With this in mind she made her way to the kitchen and prepared some apple tea for herself while thinking about what she had to do for the day, until someone knocked on her front door, she got up and opened the door just to see a 5ft 9 looking blond child and of course she knew who he was.
“I finished my service in the military a long time ago and I’m unable to return due to my condition so leave, Ethan,” she says coldly to him while shutting the door on his face with the intention of not letting him even speak.
“Wait!” He stops the door from closing with his shoe, “I just want to ask some questions and then I’ll leave quietly.”
She didn’t open the door but rather started to put more pressure, “How many questions?”
Feeling the pain, he responds rapidly, “Three, only three questions.”
She thought about it for a few seconds before answering, “Alright, come in,” she stops adding pressure and lets him in.
After he entered, she closed the door and sat down at the table with her tea in hand, Ethan on the other hand, he couldn’t stop looking at her and he made it so obvious.
She took a sip of the tea and then put it down, “Quit staring at me and sit down.”
“It's just hard, it has been a long time since the last time I saw you,” he listened to her and sat down, “and it was even harder to find you.”
She crossed her legs, “I know, that’s why I can’t figure out how you find me.”
A visible awkward silence sat between them.
“How have you been? To be honest I couldn't bring myself to imagine you in casual clothes, neither the others, talking about them, Lisa—”
“Can you get straight to the point, Ethan,” she interrupted him.
“Anais, you…” Ethan says, surprised by her rude and cold attitude towards him, “does my presence irritate you that much?” His tone changed.
She took the last sip of the tea and got up, “Didn't I teach you not to ask questions if you already know the answer?”
“Yeah but—”
“If you are finished with your questions, please leave I got stuff to do,” she once again interrupted him while putting the cup in the sink.
Ethan turns around and looks at her in frustration and anger, “Why did you leave the army and abandon your people?”
She rested her body in the sink and crossed her arms, “I left the army because my stupid 2nd husband left me to die in the territory of the enemy, since ‘the thought of saving my life was useless’ I quote. And I left the army because one of the enemies saved my life, so yeah, the people that I was supposed to protect betrayed me and the people who I was supposed to kill saved my life.”
Ethan didn’t know how to respond or even act to this, Anais just stood quietly looking at him struggling with her truth until someone knocked the door, she walked to the entrance and opened the door.
“James…?” Her eyes widened in surprise to see him.
“We’re not finished talking,” Ethan says pointing a gun to her head, “I got one last question. Yes, Gabriel abandoned you to die but why didn't you come back after his death in that plane crash? Don’t you love us?”
“I suggest to you that if you are not ready to die don’t point a gun at me,” she calmly said.
“I entered the army knowing that I could die one day and I'm rea—”
Before Ethan could finish his sentence, a bullet passed through his head painting the floor red. Anais didn’t flinch, neither cared about this, she just took a last glance at who once was her disciple and redirected all her attention to James, who now is putting the gun down while looking at the dead body.
She extends her arms and puts her hands on his face, calling for his attention, “Why are you here? Don’t you have a mission?” She asks slightly mad but in a caring tone.
“You didn’t text me a good morning today, so I grew worried,” James responded in an instant, as he talked to her with a soft tone.
With her left hand she caresses the part of the scar that the patch of his eye can’t hide, “I’m sorry, in the morning I got a little sick and I forgot to text you, I made some tea so now I feel better.”
He placed his hand over hers gently, he knows that she blames herself for that scar, “I got this scar on my own, I wanted to kill that bastard of your ex-husband and I did, so don’t blame yourself for my decisions.”
She let out a sigh in resignation, “I’ll work on that,” she chuckled softly.
Without taking his eyes from her, he smiled, “Liar.162Please respect copyright.PENANA63gfnEL0uJ
