Bang, bang, does bullets knock on his office door and a woman’s frantic voice pitches through the dragon face. “General Geshu Lin! I’ve grave news from Norfall barrens!”

Geshu Lin halts his pen, setting it down along with a sigh. “Come in”

His dark broadblade flickers by his table’s side. Creak did the door whip for a female soldier—battered in armor, bruises on the arms and bandages on the cheek. A bloodied scroll in her shaking hands as she offers it to the general.

“You forgot your bow” He mentions,

And the female apologetically bows without a word, only hissing breaths through gritted teeth. Her fists clenching tight before she straightens herself. Reporting dutifully with a blasted tongue, “Norfall barrens has always been at war with the tacet discords but this time, our soldiers have encountered a Threnodian. Dreadful—” jitters her voice with eyes seeing more than just tears, “Killed many of ours. Fed on their weapons and sounded…sounded like we have never heard before. It was a monster. Turned many of our weapons and fallen to Tacet discords…We request aid General! We cannot fight this monster on our own. We are weak, and was feeding that monster and it keeps getting stronger as we speak.”

“A Threnodian…” Geshu Lin repeats, closing the scroll and walking over to his broadblade. “Has it got a name?”
330Please respect copyright.PENANAHDyUNoN21v
“N-no…” Suffocating on her own breath, “we don’t know…”

“Then, know that I slay those who are named. Tell me its name” Wielding his weapon, slashing the air with crisp sound. With black flames burning at the hilt of it.

She thinks for a moment. Letting the silence calm her tears as she gulps down the tension in her voice, “Ovathrax…”

And Geshu Lin strap his broadblade to his back. Wearing his bead necklace and untying his long, silver hair. Letting them flow and exposed unlike what he does to his black, corrupted arm. Rolling and covering it under bandages before he nods, grunting in seriousness, “Let’s go.”

The sun dips low on the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink as Geshu Lin and his elite group of soldiers make their way towards Norfall Barrens. The sound of hooves against the dirt path fills the bleeding air, accompanied by the occasional clanking of armor and weapons. Geshu Lin rides at the front, his silver hair flowing behind him, and his dark broadblade strapped securely to his back.

Passing by wilted fields, burning villages and the common tacet discords that dares to ambush them. Slash, did his blade easily cut through their cores. They journey on their dung-colored grass when a group of cheery delivery men join them, their baskets filled with goods and their smiles high at the sight of the general. Saluting him reverently,

"General Geshu Lin, it's an honor to meet you!" exclaims the leader of the delivery men, a stout, jovial man with a bushy beard. "We are but humble merchants, on our way to support the brave soldiers at Norfall Barren."

Geshu Lin eyes the merchants, taking in their weathered faces and the determination in their eyes. "And where exactly are you headed?" he asks, his voice calm but authoritative.

The leader steps forward, his basket balanced on his hip. "We're off to deliver supplies to the frontlines, General. Food, medicine, and other necessities to keep our soldiers fighting strong."
330Please respect copyright.PENANAVqAs6L3WOM
Geshu Lin nods, a flicker of respect in his eyes. "We’ll—” Catching his own breath for a second thought, but he says still, “We’ll give escort. It’s dangers for you to be out without any protectors.”

The merchants exchange glances, their smiles faltering slightly. "With all due respect, General," the leader says hesitantly, "we would only slow you down. You and your men are swift and deadly at the feet, while we... we are but simple merchants. Athritis on one, mine’s bitten by a black rat and turned veins black."

But Geshu Lin shakes his head, "Nonsense. We shall escort you safely, at your pace. There's no need for haste when lives are at stake."

The merchants' faces light up with gratitude, "W-well,” and they bow deeply to the general. “Thank you general! It is our great pleasure to walk with you.”

And so, the unlikely group sets off together, the soldiers adjusting their pace to match the merchants' steady trudge. As they walk, the merchants regale the soldiers with tales of their adventures, their voices rising and falling with the rhythm of their steps.

"...and then, just as the Tacet Discord was about to strike, I threw my basket at its head!" the leader exclaims, miming the action with gusto. "The beast was so surprised, it toppled right over, giving me just enough time to escape!"

The soldiers laugh, their spirits lifted by the merchants' good humor. Even Geshu Lin finds himself smiling, drawn in by their infectious cheer.

But as the sun begins to set, casting long shadows across the land, the mood shifts. The merchants grow quiet, their eyes darting nervously to the darkening horizon. Geshu Lin senses their unease, and he raises a hand, signaling for the group to halt.

"We'll make camp here for the night," he says, his voice low and serious. "Set a watch, and stay alert. Though the night has barely any sound, the Tacet Discords can come up at us at any moment.”

The soldiers nod, moving swiftly to set up a defensive perimeter. The merchants huddle together, their baskets clutched tightly to their chests. Geshu Lin watches them, his brow furrowed with concern.

As the night deepens and the campfire burns low, Geshu Lin finds himself drawn to the merchants' side. They sit in silence, their faces illuminated by the flickering flames.
330Please respect copyright.PENANA8THYR9UZFF
"You've seen much, haven't you?" Geshu Lin asks quietly, his eyes fixed on the fire.
330Please respect copyright.PENANAGeRrrS2w0I
The leader nods, his expression somber. "More than we care to remember, General. The horrors of war spare no one, not even simple merchants like us."
330Please respect copyright.PENANAcllGIooBff
Geshu Lin sighs, the weight of his own experiences heavy on his shoulders. "But still, you press on. You bring hope and comfort to those who need it most. That takes a special kind of courage."
330Please respect copyright.PENANAEGZdYb0f4F
The merchant smiles, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "Thank you, General. Your words mean more than you know."

As the night wears on and the soldiers take turns at watch, Geshu Lin finds himself pondering to sleep.

Suddenly, a strange sound pierces the night—the sickening sound of metal tearing through flesh. Geshu Lin's eyes snap open, a sword plunging down at his face---meeting black flames that burns it to ash as he bolts upright, his hand instinctively reaching for his broadblade and slashing whatever is infront. To his horror, he sees their twisted forms silhouetted against the dying embers of the fire. They move with unnatural speed and precision, claws and pointed limbs stalking and plunging down at the sleeping soldiers.

“Wake up!” Geshu Lin leaps to his feet, his broadblade already in hand, but his sound came too late. Most of his elite soldiers lie motionless on the ground, blood pooling from their hole pierced necks. He looks around frantically for the delivery men, but they are nowhere to be found. Instead, the baskets they carried now stand empty, their contents replaced by the grotesque forms of the Tacet Discords.

A fruity peach with the legs of giraffe speaks, its voice a grating whisper, "You should not have wasted time in rest, Geshu Lin. Now, you stand alone."
330Please respect copyright.PENANAYXYCSiPIXR
Rage boils within Geshu Lin, black flames erupt out of his bandage as the corrupted dark hand embraces the same light that glows from the Tacet discords’ skins. He charges forward, his blazing broadblade cutting through the air with deadly precision. Hacking legs, beheading heads, and thrusting through hard carapace. Blood stain his silver hair, and the night watches him pant. More Tacet Discords surround the noise. Adding to his efforts of fighting with a fury born of grief and desperation. Nothing comes into his head than to kill these monsters. The Tacet Discords fall before him, their twisted mechanical and biological hybrid bodies crumpling to the ground.

His steps and the whoosh of his blade overwhelms the campfire, extinguishing the last source of light and plunging the battlefield into darkness.

As the embers die out, Geshu Lin stands alone, surrounded by the bodies of his fallen soldiers and the twisted remains of the Tacet Discords. He breathes heavily, his broadblade dripping with black blood. He cannot rest. He should not rest. Not yet. Not until he has avenged his fallen comrades and put an end to the nightmare that is Ovathrax.

With a heavy heart and a steely resolve, Geshu Lin turns his gaze towards Norfall Barrens. Black flames burning embers that die at their peak.
