She slashed her blade around, anger filling the air with each swish.
Stupid Rin Okumura. Stupid stupid stupid.
Never before had Amaya felt such sadness in her heart and anger boiling through her veins. His smile kept appearing in her head, giving her only more reason to continue throwing her blade.
"A knight pours their emotion into the blade," her mother had said to her many years before, "but one must never show their emotion outside of their sword."
But it was so hard for her, so hard to keep the tears inside. Amaya wanted so desperately to scream, but her lips were closed. And they would stay that way. What did Rin see in Shiemi, anyway? What was so great about her?
She stopped after hearing a voice behind, but she decided not to turn around.
"Hoshina, I'm heading out." Yukio Okumura said. He was her teacher who was also a close friend, but he always refused to call her by her first name, which made their friendship seem somewhat distant.
Amaya nodded, then put both of her hands on her weapon once again, focusing on the sword and its force.
"If your blade could speak, what would it be saying?" Her mother's words echoed in her head.
"IT'D BE SCREAMING!" She yelled, throwing the sword with great force, having a few light bulbs from the light on the ceiling come crashing down.
A noise was heard behind her, and she quickly put the sword up to the person's throat. "What's up with you Okumuras and scaring me from behind?"
Rin chuckled, putting his hand in his hair shyly, "uh- yeah, sorry."
Amaya sighed, then lowered her sword.
"So...what are you doing, exactly?" He asked.
"Practicing."
"Looks a little bit more than that." Rin said, looking over at the broken glass on the floor, "You wanna battle against me?" His childlike smile spread onto his face. The butterflies stirred inside her stomach for a moment, but she quickly pushed them away.
"I don't think that'd be smart to practice against the son of satan."
"Oh...yeah. Right."
Amaya took her black hair out of her ponytail, and flicked it behind her shoulder, "why are we still talking?"
"That was pretty cold of you, Hoshina. Anyways.. I know you've only been in the cram school for a few months now but I was wondering if you can help me become a knight?"
"Why don't you just ask your brother?"
Rin's eyes grew large, "I can't ask Yukio!"
Amaya sighed, "alright, but tomorrow. I'm busy today."
"Great!" Rin replied, running back into the hall, "I'll see you after school tomorrow!"
He disappeared and left Amaya in the practice room. She soon fell over with exhaustion.
