Charlie walked down the hall, the concrete roof leaking and straining under the weight of the ground above. She walked down the door lined hallway, not stopping to open any of them. She knew what she was here for.

Her heels clicked, the sound changing as the ground beneath her changed from concrete to tile, the place where they did their experiments–and their decommissioning–nearing. The hallway took a left–perhaps making space for something deeper in the facility, something of which Charlie paid no attention to.

The hallway remained unitary as onward as she went, not splitting in multiple directions or merging with another, but at some point, leading to an open space- the testing chambers. Doors next to a wall of glass, the place where everyone she knew—except her sister—was made. She frowned at the sight, memories of chargeless nights, working on her neighbours, working on her husband flooding back to her, all the people she loved, she trusted—the executives wanted to take them away from her.

She would not let that happen.

Withdrawing the gold key, she felt around the tiles in one of the walls, and upon pushing on one of them, it slid aside, revealing another keyhole, to which the entrance key also managed to fit in. The whole section of wall slid aside, opening to a corridor with an ascending staircase at the end of it, dimly lit with dingy lights that hung from wires hanging from the ceiling.

Charlie entered, not at all creeped out, and walked to the end of the hall, determined to find her lost friends, her lost family. She knew the executives might’ve hidden the bodies of the ‘deceased’ somewhere other than the execution chambers, as they weren’t allowed to dispose of them, she just needed to find out where.

She climbed up the stairs, reaching the top that led to another hallway, this one seemingly untouched without signs of decay. Just like where she’d just been, there were doors on either side of her, panes of glass giving sight to inside the rooms of the decommissioning chambers, the place where it was seen fit to undermine her opinion.

She peered through the glass, taking a look into the first decommissioning chamber to her left. “Huh…?” She murmured, “They’re supposed to be here…” She walked into the other side of the hall, did the same peering, and received the same results. “What?” She said, panicking. Her neighbours were supposed to be here, that’s where she saw them before she chained shut the facilities! Unless…

Charlie ran down the hall, the chambers only giving splatters of oil and memories of screams and ire, of hopeless nights, of moments where all she could do was watch. She reached the end of the hall, standing deathly still.

Someone had been in here before her, she realised. Someone who was working with the executives to make sure she’d not have the opportunity to bring her neighbours, friends, and family back.

She walked out of the hallway, down the stairs, and into the main one, the one of which had led her to the dimly lit hall. She walked onward, determined to find everyone, even if they’d been moved elsewhere, and determined to find the person who had the utter audacity to shorten their lifespan by helping the executives.

Was that a threat? Yes. Did she care? Hell no.

She was almost out of the area where the hallway expanded to accommodate for a more open space, when she came to a stop. Something wouldn’t let her leave.

For the love of Sol, Charlie thought, Why can’t yall leave me alone!? She mused, stopping in her tracks. Waiting for the thing to approach her, her foot started tapping, impatient.
