Chapter 9
"Destiny! Destiny!" I heard a voice shout. I couldn't see much; everything was quite blurry. I saw a fluorescent white light. My eyes were beginning to burn, making my eyesight worse.
"Destiny, are you okay?!?" The voice sounded familiar, maybe my dad, I don't know, it was really hard to tell who it was. I was straining to be able to see again. Eventually, some things began to come into focus. I could see two faces peering down at me, one a doctor, and a man of about 20.
Once the 20-year-old man realized I could distinguish him, he buried me in a bear hug. I wanted to scream WHO ARE YOU, but I restrained because of all these weird things that have been happening lately, maybe I time traveled or something unbelievable like that.
WAIT! That's it! I time-traveled into the future. The person in the mirror staring back at me is an older version. I was judging around 18. Hold up! This doesn't make sense, how could I have time-traveled? Nothing is making sense, I want to cry, scream, and shout!
The 20-year-old man smiled warmly at me. I didn't know what to do, so I smiled back. "Everything will be okay!" the man said, taking hold of my hand. "Why? What happened?" I asked curiously.
"You were in an accident, and you have a bit of amnesia, but you remember who I am, right?" he responded. The way he looked at me reminded me of what a lost puppy would look like. I smiled. "I'm afraid so, " I said sadly.
The look on his face hurt my heart, I didn't know this guy, but I still felt sad. I stand up and ask: "Who are you?"
He still had a sad look on his face. "Your husband."With the simple words it all made sense, I was in some accident that caused me to be placed here. "What kind of accident?" I ask.
"You were inside of a nuclear power plant for some reason, there were at least 200 people there, and you were one of them and all but you died." He explained sadly. "The nuclear radiation leak is what caused all the pain, it should have killed you, but it didn't." He said in a slightly hopeful tone. "With the stampede to get out, you got walked all over by everyone, at least that's what we think."
I didn't know how to respond. Maybe I had time-traveled. How would that be possible? My head was spinning, and I was starting to see black dots dancing in my eyes. Nothing made sense anymore.
"Destiny, are you alright?" the man asked. Yeah, that's fine. By the way, what's your name? " I responded, out of breath.
"I am Derek Green. Why?" He quizzically looked at me. "Just wondering." I shrug. I want to go back home now. I stand up, "Where is our House anyway?"
His eyes go all dreamlike. "We live on the top floor of this beautiful skyscraper, it comes from your line of work after all, I mean you are in the government after all! There is natural light with so many big windows. The sky always looks so beautiful, even with the clouds covering it up. I could fill up millions of books with how beautiful it is, but we only have so much time, plus you are about to go see him yourself!" He smiled warmly, clearly loving this house. When he met my eyes and realized I wasn't smiling, I realized I must have loved this house too.
After all the documents were signed, and the check-ups regulated, we were outside in a giant parking lot. "What does the car look like?" I asked carefully, not wanting to hurt Derek's feelings.
"Umm..." Derek gulped. "It's pastel green." He was so nervous, that I was starting to feel bad, so the rest of the walk was an awkward silence. Derek takes a sharp right and we arrive at a small little pastel green car.
"It's so cute!" I say, smiling at him to see his reaction. He just smiled back and got in the driver's side, and I got in the passenger's side, I admired the minimalist design of the inside. Man, the car was starting to grow on me, even more as we started the drive back to what was supposed to be my home.
It was a quiet ride, we just sat in a sense a little less awkward than the walk through the parking lot. 12Please respect copyright.PENANAWlotfdrM5v
Once we arrived we parked in the special parking garage for the residents. When we left the parking garage into the giant building, that was strangely familiar. I wonder why? 12Please respect copyright.PENANAmBJQ0YS9lP
We got into th is beautiful elevator, which was made of scratch resident glass, that overlooked the city as we climbed up, higher and higher. As we came to the top, I was a bit reluctant to get off, the elevator ride was so much fun. As most fun things, the ride came to an end and the door opened, we entered this little tiny, front door entrance like thingy, where Derek unlocked the door. "Welcome home." He said a bit emotionless.
