When I was extremely young (roughly 8), my parents passed away and I had to live with my next closest relative, my stepmom. I was seen as the... hated child, if you could say that. I was given a water bottle for last years Christmas, and that’s it, if you needed proof.
I quickly heard the roars of screams from her: shouting at me because the car wasn’t clean.
“GET DOWN HERE AND CLEAN THE CAR, RIGHT NOW VIOLET!” She screamed. I thought about ignoring her, but I refused with myself. I had no idea what she would do if I dis-obeyed. Torture, or something worse than that.
I swiftly ambled to the car, holding a burdensome water bucket and bar of cerulean soap. I sighed.
At least the night was quiet. The stars aligned in random places at times as I looked up, hoping that one day, I would be free...
I turned around, facing the jade car. I started to wash of all of the suds, leaving no sign of it ever being washed. It just looked brand-new.
I picked the metal bucket back up. My back suddenly ached with pain as I pushed the bow in my hair back up, which was one of the few things I was allowed. A small blue bow in my hair every day. The colour really standed out against my jet-black hair. Then, as if it was made by humans, a gust of wind came and knocked me back, right into a lamp-post and knocking myself unconscious, the sapphire bow flying out of my hair and joyfully running away with the air.
I woke up the next day, under the lamp-post, scratched and bruised. I looked around. The bow was nowhere in sight, and my body was too weak to get up. I didn’t have a phone, and even if I did, I felt as if I could not speak. That is, without feeling blood rush out of my mouth like mothballs in a wardrobe. I just... waited. I couldn’t do anything, I was starving, I was hurt, and I had a feeling that I had a few teeth missing aswell.
I closed my eyes again, and started to sing like nobody else was watching, to try and soothe my pain.
”I see your monsters, I see your pain, tell me your problems, I’ll chase them away, I’ll be your lighthouse, I’ll make it ok, when I see your monsters, I’ll stand there so brave, and chase them all away...”
I stopped. I heard a twig snap behind me, but I was too anemic to move. I had a feeling my back was damaged permantly, too. Then I heard a voice. It was light and they seemed to sound similar to me.
“In the dark, we, we, we stand apart we, we, never see that the things we need are staring right at us. You just want to hide, hide, hide, never show your smile, smile. Stand alone, when you need someone it’s the hardest thing of all”
Then a few more people joined in, including me.
”That you see, are the bad, bad, bad, bad memories. Take your time and you’ll find me~”
It was at that point that all of us stopped. I heard a few whisper as I struggled to move. It turned out that I was tied to the lamp-post, most likely by my stepmom. Then, I heard the movement of feet and the untying of rope: which then made my hands free to move. I managed to turn around...
Then, I saw a flash of light and my surroundings turn into something else... something I had never seen before...
It was at that point I noticed that I was in another realm...
And that’s why I don’t wear bows.
