“AAAH!”
The young boy woke up in a cold sweat and touched his aching chest.
“Huh? I thought there was a wound there?”
He looked down to see that he was in a bed with bandages covering all his wounds.
“Hey boy, are you feeling ok?”
Quickly glancing at the direction the voice was coming from the little boy’s eyes slowly started to open more and more. A man covered in grey clothes with a long beard and a shining bald head slowly started to walk over to him. Behind the man was a large golden eagle, it’s wingspan must’ve been around 4m wide and it was roughly one and a half times the man’s height, standing at 2.7m tall.
“Y-Yes I’m feeling okay.”
The old man picks up a wooden stool as he walks over and places it next to the bed the young boy is sitting up on. He slowly begins to sit down on the stool.
“Ah there we go, sitting is so much easier than standing. Don’t you think so boy?”
…
“Oh right I should introduce myself. I’m Rawell and this is my partner Pu, who might you be?”
Staring at the Rawell the boy closes his eyes and begins to think.
Who am I?
Trying to think causes the boy pain. His memories are in shambles. Bits and pieces of his past keep flashing by, but he can form no solid idea of who he is. The pain begins to grow until he comes across one memory. He begins to vaguely remember a woman picking him up and saying the words “Kaiel, you’ve grown bigger today.” He opens his eyes, relieving the pain.
“Kaiel, my name is Kaiel.”
“Can you tell me anything about yourself Kaiel? Like where you’re from?”
“No… I don’t really remember anything…”
“Oh so you have amnesia. Must have been from that bruise on your head.”
My head is bruised? I raise my hand to touch head and feel bandages. This old man must have treated me, I don’t think i’ve given him my thanks yet.
I bow my head towards the old man.
“Old man thank you for saving my life.”
“Hey boy I’m not that old yet, I’m only on my fourth century I’m practically in my prime right now!”
“Rawell this boy is the one with a head injury not you.”
Rawell and Pu start laughing. The boy’s expression changes as he watches them, he feels more comfortable now.
“Oh right! While I was taking off you clothes this amulet fell from your robe boy.”
Kaiel looks at what dangles from the old man’s hand. An old brown string is holding up a medium-sized black crystal. This black crystal looks pretty plain. Kaiel takes the amulet from the old man and has a closer look at it. On the crystal there appears to be a design, but he can’t make much sense of it since there are cracks on the crystal. However, just by holding the crystal he feels a sense of warmth, what one might describe as a homely feeling.
Kaiel ties the amulet around his neck and looks back at the old man and the bird.
“That amulet looks good on you, matches your eyes.”
Kaiel looks confused.
“My eyes?”
“Yes, you have beautiful black eyes. If I had eyes like yours I would have several women with me right now ha ha ha!”
“Old man do you have a mirror I can use?”
“Hmm? Yes there’s a mirror in the left-most room down the hallway, but I wouldn’t advise you to get up right now since your wounds haven’t fully healed and-”
Before Rawell could finish his sentence Kaiel got off the bed and rushed towards the room.
He looked at himself in the mirror and swallowed hard.
“My eyes, my hair and even my face is different. Why do I look so different from how I looked in my memory? Who am I?”
