The sound of footsteps and burning torches fills the long dark passageway. Occasionally a rock will come loose from the wall and fall to the ground, or a two tailed rat will scurry along the slightly damp path. They had been walking for around 4 hours now and the torch was running out of light. However, after turning a corner there was a faint light source in the distance.
“Mom what’s that light?”
“I’m not too sure Kaiel, but it must mean that we’re close now.”
Troy put out the torch and turned back to look at Kara and Kaiel.
“Kara you’re right. That light is our destination, it’s only a little bit further now. We need to hurry up though, this passageway has been vibrating a little bit too much for my liking.”
The three of them increased their pace as they got closer and closer to the light. Finally, they approached a giant iron door with strange characters and a hole the size of a fist in the middle of it. Troy moved his right hand and started to circulate energy into his palm. In one quick action he punched the hole. The energy in his hand then slowly began to spread from the hole to the four corners of the door.
The door had energy running along its cracks and it visibly began shaking. Troy’s face turned pale as the door continued to consume his energy. Once the door turned from a dark grey to a vivid red was when it stopped shaking and began to fix it’s cracks. Troy pulled back his hand and stared at the hole, which was now slowly being filled with a red material. The door was now complete, no holes or cracks were visible. It grew a handle from around the area where Troy put his hand.
Troy reached out with his other hand, grabbed the handle then pushed against it. A white light began to emit from the room which was past the door. Kara and Kaiel remained silent throughout this whole ordeal and continued to stare at the luminescent light. When the door was fully opened what they saw was kind of ordinary. It was a simple white door in an otherwise pitch black room.
“Uncle Troy why did we come down here for a door?”
Troy sighed and sat down, back against a nearby wall.
“We didn’t come here for any just door. This is a special door, the only way of escaping those bastards.”
“Who are we escaping from, what’s going on?”
Kara looked at her confused son and smiled.
“I’ll tell you when we get out of this honey, but for now we need to get to safety.”
Troy looked at Kara and Kaiel and couldn’t help but smile as well. William you have a good family, you better make it out alive.
The passageway shook loudly.
Troy got up instantly after feeling the tremors.
“Both of you listen up, behind this door is nothing but a flight of stairs. Do not look down under any circumstances, you must only look forward and follow the path ok?”
Kara and Kaiel simultaneously nodded.
“At the end of the stairs will be another door, you will enter it and be sent to the distant plane of Yaer. That’s where the other clan members are, you need to find them in order to survive. Go now, we’ll be having company shortly and I need to entertain our guests.”
“Come on Kaiel, let’s do as your Uncle says we can’t waste time.”
Seeing Kara and Kaiel rush over to the white door Troy sighed and looked towards the path they came from. You bastards never gave us a break, did you?
Troy mustered up whatever energy he had left and burst off down the passageway, cutting the walls as he passed. Kaiel turned around after hearing a loud boom to see rocks collapsing, blocking where they came from.
“Kaiel don’t look back. We need to continue.”
Kara grabbed the handle of the white door and pulled it open. There was a single flight of white stairs going upwards. They stepped forward into the door and began walking on the stairs. Step by step they carried on, not daring to look below, only forward.
However, right as the white door was about to close behind them a hand appeared in between the crack and forcefully opened the door. The stairs began to shake and Kara and Kaiel looked behind them to see black robed figures stepping onto the flights of stairs.
“Mommy who are they?”
“Bad people, very bad people. We need to hurry and-”
The door forcibly closed, killing a black robed person who was still trying to enter instantly. The stairs now shook furiously. Kara took Kaiel and dropped to her knees, holding him tightly. The black robed people all looked at Kara and Kaiel, then they looked down.
“AAAHHHHHH”
One of the members screamed and fell on his bottom as he saw a gigantic monster below.
“You humans dare to let others into my realm after our agreement?”
A giant ape golden-skinned ape rose to the platform as he was speaking.
A black robed man stepped forwards, taking out a long staff that he had hidden in his clothes.
“Ape don’t interfere this is between the Deiss clan and our Vale clan.”
“Oh? Human you dare speak as if you’re higher than me? Do you wish to die?!”
“Hmph, who would be scared of some weak little pet like you. We have only come to take back what was stolen from us!”
The black robed man instantly jumped towards the ape, swinging his staff towards his head. The ape quickly took out a jade club from what appeared to be thin air and smashed it against the staff.
“Oh so you do have some power you puny human.”
“The same can be said about you, you arrogant monkey.”
The black robed man looked back at his comrades and shouted.
“Get the woman and her child, then continue along the path and find and slaughter any of the remaining Deiss clan members!.”
“Yes General Weng!”
Eight black robed members all began to run towards Kara and Kaiel. Kara looked ahead of her and saw that the other door was too far away, they wouldn’t be able to make it. She looked at her son’s face and saw the fear and began to cry. I’m sorry you were dragged into this sweetheart, I hope you’ll be able to survive.
“Kaiel look at me. What I’m about to give you is very important, you need to guard it with your life and find a way to get to the Yaer realm. When you’re there look for the others, can you do that for me sweetie?”
Kaiel nodded as he watched his mother begin to tear up. She casted a spell on him and put the pouch in his clothes. She then stood up, blocking the path between the black robed men and Kaiel.
“M-Mom what are you doing?”
“Kaiel, I casted a very strong appearance changing spell on you so they won’t be able to track you when you get to the Yaer realm. Now quickly, I can only hold them off for so long, you need to run! Get to that door!”
He stood up and headed forwards, not looking back to see his mother and the black robed men fight. Closing his eyes he began sprinting at full speed trying to block out the sound of his screaming in the background, whether it be from the black robed men, the golden ape, or his very own mother.
Faster, faster! I need to run faster!
“AAHH”
Kaiel’s eyes opened and he stopped running as soon as he heard his mother’s blood curdling scream. He could ignore the other screams, but this one was dreadful. He looked back and his pupils shrank as he saw a sight he wished he never would’ve seen. He felt like vomiting as he saw his mother in a pool of blood with a sword sticking out of her back. Around her laid three corpses of black robed men and the remaining five staring at her body. They all then turned their attention to Kaiel.
“For and Rew you go help the General with that ape, it won’t take all five of us to deal with one measly kid.”
The two of them darted off towards where the Ape and Weng were fighting and the other three began to move towards Kaiel. The ape saw the two coming towards him and saw the scene below him.
I was so close to my breakthrough too, these pesky humans are annoying. Forcing me to use that here. Now I’ll have to train for another century just to recuperate.
“Hey Deiss boy, if you want any chance of surviving you better look down and jump.”
Kaiel looked towards the giant golden ape as he said those words to him. Kaiel looked towards the neverending darkness below him and gulped hard. He then looked back at the three figures speeding up, wanting to stop him before he jumped. He turned his body towards the edge of the staircase and fell.
“That boy actually jumped! Bal can you make the shot from here?! We just need to kill him!”
One of the black robed members then took out a large spear and began to aim at the freefalling boy. Once he was about to let go and throw the spear the ape began to roar loudly as its energy instantaneously began to rise. This rise in power caused the black robed member to lose concentration for a split second, slightly altering the trajectory of the spear.
The spear whizzed through the air, coming closer and closer to Kaiel’s body. The physical spear barely missed his body, but the surrounding energy around it made contact.
“AAHHH”
Kaiel had never felt so much pain before in his life, the energy hit his head causing him to lose consciousness almost immediately. Before he lost consciousness however, he had the pleasure to look back and see the ape instantly kill two of the black robed men as the others fled for the door. He slowly began to close his eyes again. This time, he never would never know if he could open them again.
