Rain poured down on the small town as Elizabeth stepped out of her little house, turning around to lock her door. She turned to face the rain and heaved a sigh before opening the big transparent umbrella and stepping into the rain. She pulled her plaid scarf around her neck to keep her warmth as she began to walk, looking down to keep her glasses from getting wet.
She walked down the same street that she always did as her favorite song played through her earbuds. She crossed the same streets and passed the same shops, recognizing a few familiar faces as she made her way to work.
"Morning Elizabeth," Mr Meyers, the owner of a small library said to her as she passed. She took a few moments to stop and reply,
"Good morning."
"Lovely weather we're having, eh?" he said jokingly. She felt her lips curve into a smile as she heard his joke before wishing him a good day and continuing her walk to work. She made a right turn and immediately, the tall building where she worked came into view. She looked through her umbrella at the glowing sign which labelled the building:
Jones Enterprise
She took in a deep breath as she always did, while she waited for the walking sign so that she could cross. She allowed herself to be absorbed in the music which played for a few seconds as she waited.
And when the sign finally appeared, she began to cross the street. But as she got close to the middle of the road, someone ran towards her and stood under her umbrella. She allowed the person to walk with her until they reached the other side of the street when she decided to look at the person.
And as soon as she did, she felt as if the world had disappeared around her as she looked at those familiar brown eyes.
The owner of those eyes smiled as she recognized him.
"Elizabeth," was all he had to say for her memories of him to resurface.

~Ten Years Ago~
Elizabeth frowned as entered the building of her new college. She took in a deep breath and exhaled in an attempt to calm her nerves. As she was walking towards her class, she turned a corner and immediately, felt her textbooks fall onto the floor as someone bumped into her.
The person who had bumped into her bent down to pick up her books and turned to her, looking at the books.
"Oh? I think we're in the same class."
She looked up to find him smiling at her as he held out his hand.
"I'm Adam, and you are?"
"Elizabeth," she replied hesitantly.
His smile widened as he continued to look at her, causing her to smile as well as she looked back at him.
"It's very nice to meet you," he told her.
"Same with you," she replied, shaking his hand.
When she tried to remove her hand from his grip, he held on for a few moments longer.
"Do you mind?" she asked in a small voice.
"Oh, sorry."
He quickly let go before handing her books back to her.
"Do you mind if I walk with you to class?" he asked. She shook her head before saying,
"No."
"Great."
The two walked towards their class in silence, causing Elizabeth to feel slightly uncomfortable.
"It's my first year," Adam told her casually.
"Me too."
"We have quite a bit in common don't we?" he said. She couldn't stop herself from smiling as she nodded in agreement.
"I can tell that you're very quiet," Adam continued talking.
"Why do you say that?" she asked.
"Because your answers are so short."
She didn't say anything in reply as they entered the lecture hall.
"Let's sit together," Adam offered. Since she didn't have anyone else to sit with, she nodded her head, causing Adam to chuckle slightly.
"What's so funny?" she asked.
"How quiet you are."

Coffee?
Elizabeth looked at the note which she had found in her textbook when she opened it in the cafeteria during lunch. She swallowed the bite of sandwich which was in her mouth before looking around at the cafeteria, wondering who could have placed that note in her book.
Maybe it was a mistake, she thought to herself as she crumpled the piece of paper. And just at that moment, Adam slid into a seat beside her.
"So?"
"What?" she asked him when she couldn't figure out what he was talking about.
"Did you see the note?" She looked at the crumpled piece of paper in her hand as he reached for it, flattening it out when it was in his hands.
"I guess that's a no then?" he asked, his tone sounding slightly disappointed.
"No it's not," she quickly said.
"So it's a yes?" he asked for clarification. Elizabeth nodded her head slowly.
"Awesome, I'll see you at the coffee shop across the street after class," he said. She nodded just before he stood up and smiled at her.
"I have to go."
"Oh, okay." He chuckled as he shook his head.
"See you later Elizabeth."
She smiled as she waved him goodbye, watching his retreating figure as he walked away from her, wondering why he would want to meet up with her later.
It wasn't long before her lunch ended and she made her way to her next class. While the professor was speaking, she found it hard to focus as she remembered Adam. She didn't know why but there was something about him which intrigued her and made her feel attracted to him. It wasn't just his looks but she felt almost as if it was his personality which seemed to drag her towards him even more. She smiled to herself as she remembered how scared she had been in the morning for her first day. But right now, she thought that she had been silly to worry.
---
She crossed the street when her classes were over and walked towards the coffee shop where they had agreed to meet. As soon as she entered the store, her eyes scanned the place in search of Adam. And when she didn't see anyone who resembled him, she decided to walk towards the back to wait.
As she was walking, she heard her name and turned around to find him sitting close to the window. She smiled slightly as she approached him and placed her textbook on the table.
"You made it," he said.
"Am I late? We didn't agree on a time," she said, starting to feel guilty for making him wait but he shook his head with a smile.
"You're right, and that was my fault."
"Did you wait for long?"
"Only forty-five minutes but it's okay, it was my fault."
She didn't know what to say to that and chose to remain silent as she sat down.
"What do you take in your coffee?" he asked her as he stood up.
"Sugar and cream."
He nodded his head.
"I'll be right back," he said before leaving the table.
While he was gone, she looked around at the place, noticing how most people were there alone, seated behind a laptop or seemingly engraved into a book. When she looked back to Adam's seat, she noticed that there was a notebook on the table where he had been sitting. And on the cover of the book were written the words:
only you.
She was tempted to reach over and look at it. However, before she could, he returned with two cups of coffee, passing one to her.
"Thanks," she said.
"You're welcome," he replied.
He noticed as she continued to look at the notebook and turned it over.
"Pretend you didn't see that," he said.
"What is it?" she asked curiously. He ran a hand through his hair as he bit his lip slightly.
"This is embarrassing," he said, putting the book into his bag, "it's a book of poems. I'm not very good though."
"Can I see?" she asked. He shook his head.
"I'm not finished with the first one, I just started."
There was a small moment of silence while Adam looked at her with a smile on his face. And as she continued to look at him, she couldn't deny the fact that his smile was really beautiful.
"You have a beautiful smile," she heard herself say before she could stop herself. And as soon as those words left her lips, she felt her face heat up in embarrassment, causing her to look down at her coffee as she reprimanded herself. She heard Adam's laugh, which caused her to look back up.
"I'm glad you think so," was his reply. She felt her lips turn up slightly as he looked at her.
"You know, you're really cute when you're embarrassed," he told her. And immediately, the temperature of her face increased once again as she looked away from him.
But the cool feeling of his finger touching her chin and raising her head caused her to looked back at him, and into his beautiful brown eyes. He didn't say anything as he just looked at her with a small smile on his face, causing her to wonder if there was something on her face. But when she heard his words, she couldn't say anything as her heart began to beat rapidly.
