Lights shine brightly, illuminating the stage. Standing there is Grace. As the light shows her beauty across to the audience, she gracefully waves her hand across.
The music starts to play, and Grace begins to elegantly dance across the room. Every move she made was perfect. Not even a single step was missed.
Right after, the part came where Grace would sing. She opened her mouth and began to say the words. However, after hearing her voice, the judges stopped the music.
"Um...Grace was it?" One of the judges asked.
"Yes." Grace nodded.
"Your dancing was enjoyable, but that singing of yours...could use a little work." He continued.
"I understand." Grace looked down at her feet.
For the past year, every audition Grace had entered seemed to have the same response. "Your voice needs to be worked on," they would tell her.
Grace knew that they wouldn't give her any chances due to the theater life being strict. If you're talented, you are in. If you know someone, you are in. Grace, however, doesn't have connections or talent, so she couldn't see herself in the future on stage.
"Thank you very much for judging me." Grace said before walking off the stage. She held in her breath, trying her hardest not to cry.
"Wait!" A voice suddenly yelled from the audience behind the judges.
Grace glanced over to see who it was. With the help of squinting, Grace was abe to see a man in a top hat with a cane. Slowly, he walked over to Grace.
"You, my dear, have potential." The man said.
"Potential?" Grace questioned.
The man chuckled and then pulled a card out from he breast pocket. "Here," he handed Grace the card, "This is my card."
With the card in her hand, Grace looked down and read the card. "James Jones."
"That's my name." The man smiled.
"So, what's the card for?" She asked, still a bit confused to who he could be.
"You see that address there, underneath my name? I want you to meet me there, so I can give you the dream you have been pursuing. To join theater. Isn't that right?"
Grace looked up at James' eyes and hope. She wondered if he meant what he was saying and truly wanted to help her. She knew that this may be the only chance she will ever get. A once in a life time chance.
"Yes." Grace answered.
After hearing her answer, James began to smile. "I will see you then. Tonight."
James tipped his hat and walked off. Grace's heart began beating fast. She never knew the feeling of acceptance. She was filled with joy when she heard that she had potential. Now, she can see a future with herself on stage.
