“Primrose, Lily, wake up. Come on, now get up. Don’t you guys know what today is!?” Petunia, our older sister yelled enthusiastically.
“Go away Petunia. Let me sleep!” Lily said in her usual bitchy way. She wasn’t always this way. She, honestly, use to be sweet and caring, but that all changed the day she meant Severus Snape, a boy around our age that lives down at the end of Spinner's End.
“Oh Lily, be nice. Today is a happy day.” I said finally realizing why Petunia was excited.
“Why is today a ‘happy’ day, dear sister?” Lily replied sarcastically.
“Lily,” Petunia and I said exasperatedly, “It’s our 11th birthday!” I finished excitedly.
“OMG REALLY? You know what this means. Right?” She said getting all worked up.
“I swear to god, if you bring up our Hogwarts Letters I will smack you.” I said annoyed, “I mean you’ve been talking about it all summer. Just give it a rest already.” Don’t judge me for being rude; what I said is true.
Lily rolled her eyes. “Come off it Prim. It’s not like you’re special enough to go to Hogwarts anyways.” I didn’t respond, but I almosted started crying. Petunia almost lost her temper, but I gave her a look and, in my head, I was begging her not to say anything. She looked shocked and a little scared for a moment, but then looked at me and nodded.
“Petunia, can I talk to you outside for a minute?” I asked her puzzled. I was wondering why she looked scared.
“Yeah sure. Come on, Rosie.” Petunia replied. I followed her out of the room then took the lead. We went to our secret place; It was the only place where Lily wouldn’t follow us. “So, what did you want to talk about?” Petunia finally asked.
“Tunie, why did you look scared earlier? I asked worriedly.
“ I looked scared because when you gave me that look I heard a voice in my head that was saying, ‘Please, please don’t say anything.’ Rosie it was your voice. You were talking to me without speaking. You have a magnificent gift. It just surprised me a little.” she explained.
“It’s probably common with witches and wizards. I’m nothing special, Tunie.” I said sadly.
“Don’t you ever say that again. You are special because even if it is common with witches and wizards it probably takes a lot of training and the ones who can do it, most likely, grew up in an all magic household. Rosie, you’re an 11 year old witch from a non-magic household. You have so much talent, and haven’t been trained at all. You are so amazing, Rosie.” Petunia went on a rant; I didn’t believe her, but I put on a fake smile and agreed.
I then started to smile my ‘creepy’ smile and said, “Hey, Tunie, wanna do something fun?” She looked scared, but agreed. “Race you to the tree!” I yelled already taking off running. I had made it into the view of our tree when I saw him. A boy around Lily and mines age. At first I stopped for a few seconds and just stared at him confused, but then I heard Petunia catching up so I took off again. When I had gotten closer to the tree I took a deep breath and prayed that what I was about to do would work.

“Rosie, stop! If you hit the tree you’ll get hurt again. You just got out of the hospital for falling out of the tree.” Petunia yelled worriedly. The boy looked shocked when he looked up to see lil ol’ me running at the tree with a look of determination on my face.
“Calm down, Petunia. I know what I’m doing!” I yelled, and, completely forgetting about the boy standing there, I closed my eyes and thought about my favorite spot in the tree. A little treehouse dad and I built a few years ago. I heard a loud noise so I opened my eyes to see what it was. It was me; I had ended up in the treehouse.
“Rosie, where are you?!?” I heard her yell frantically. I climbed out the treehouse window, and sat on the branch waiting for her to make it to the tree. When I saw her I climbed to the lowest branch, and waited till she was right under me, and I jumped down onto her back.
“I win, Tunie! Plus, it actually worked! I ended up in the treehouse!” I yelled happily. She looked shocked, then scared, then angry, and finally revealed. Before she could say anything though she heard somebody laughing. I jumped off Petunia’s back and looked at the boy who had been standing there the whole time, but his laughter caused Tunie to jump, which, in turn, caused me to laugh.
“That was bloody brilliant. What’s your name?” the strange boy asked staring directly at me.
“I am the amazing and talented Primrose Evans,” I said bowing dramatically,” and to whom do I owe the pleasure of meeting to?” I added with a wink.
“Rosie!” Petunia said shrilly, “Don’t talk to him. He might hurt you.” She finished sounding worried.
“The name’s Potter, James Potter, and the pleasure’s all mine, my lovely Rose.” He said just as dramatically. “No need to worry ma’am. I wouldn’t hurt such a precious little flower.” he told Petunia, sending a wink in my direction.
“Yeah Tunie, don’t worry so much. He looks like he’s around my age,” I said happily, ” Can he come back to the house with us???”
“I don’t know Rosie, probably if his parents say yes.” She replied hesitantly.
“Well my good sir, would you like to accompany my lovely older sister and me back to our house?” I asked turning to the boy I now knew as James.
“I would love to accompany such a lovely lady and her older sister back to their home. My parents won’t mind at all.” He said smiling.
I hooked our arms together at the elbows and said, ”Well, then lets go my kind sir,” and took off skipping home with James. We walked in the back door and my mum was there so I quickly introduced them because she handed me a dress and told me to get ready, it seems I had forgotten I told my mum I would sing a song I had been practicing for the guests at the party. After getting ready I made my way slowly down the steps and heard a few people gasp as they saw me.
“I would like to thank everyone for coming, now my beautiful daughter Primrose would like to sing a song she’s been working on for a while,” my mum introduces me as I sit down at the piano and start playing the intro to my new song.
“I’ve been watching you
For some time
Can’t stop staring
At those ocean eyes
Burning cities
And napalm skies
Fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes
Your ocean eyes
No fair
You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean eyes
I’m scared
I’ve never fallen from quite this high
Falling into your ocean eyes
Those ocean eyes
No fair
You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean eyes
I’m scared
I’ve never fallen from quite this high
Falling into your ocean eyes
Those ocean eyes
I’ve been walking through
A world gone blind
Can’t stop thinking of your diamond mind
Careful creature
Made friends with time
He left her lonely with a diamond mind
And those ocean eyes
No fair
You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean eyes
I’m scared
I’ve never fallen from quite this high
Falling into your ocean eyes
Those ocean eyes
No fair
You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean eyes
I’m scared

I ended the song with my eyes closed and smiled, forgetting that I had just performed in front of my family and friends. Everyone erupted with clapping and knocked me out of my little space shocking me. James ran up to me and hugged me and said “Wow Rosie-Posie, your voice sounds beautiful,” he picked me up and swung me in a circle.
