TRINGGGGGG... TRINGGGGGG...
The morning looked lovely as ever if I could sleep for some more time. I get ready fast and rush downstairs. The people who live downstairs are quite grumpy. Its an old couple but still I find them sweet somehow. The old lady would often come out to get her supply of milk and newspaper and greet with a stern "Morning". The old man will be waiting inside for her with a cup of milk in his hands and a pen in another. The lady says its a ritual for them to eat the breakfast together while he is engrossed in puzzles, crosswords, or sudoku in the newspaper. I somehow found it quite cute, to live with the person you love and grow old together.
"Morning, Ms. Wade," I say with a huge smile across my face.
"Morning. You should be careful while getting upstairs after getting drunk, thankfully the young man helped you out yesterday," she says in a stern voice and gets back inside.
Guess I was wrong. The more you feel you are not cared for by others, the more you are wrong. Even in her stern voice, she was quite concerned. I really worry, its like I been burdening them with my responsibilities. Yesterday was a dreadful day, concerning everyone with my acts. Not something am proud of.
I reach the store just in time before the manager walks in. Working in a deli shop full time, was my job. There are customers who adore me in here and some customers whom I adore. One of them was the 18 years old girl who lives two blocks away. She got dreams of becoming a doctor and studies a lot. Sometimes, even I help her with her school. She is quite ambitious and someone really good to hang out with. But deep down, for me, it was the way she is. I used to be that girl with dreams and ambitions only to be spoiled by a guy whom I trusted so much. But at last, all we can say is, "past is past".
Speak of the angel and here she is.
"Morning, Gina. Can I have my usual coffee can?"
"Morning, Janice. Here you go. Good luck with your project".
"Thanks. I was wondering after school if you could help me out by filling out the college papers?"
"Yes, sure. I am looking forward to it. Even I grabbed some college info. We can work on this together."
"Oh, that's really sweet of you. I will come by and we could fill them out in my home."
"Yep, sure. All the best for today."
The morning is usually busy. People come by to get their daily supply and as the day goes by, it starts to get deserted. And all this while I was just wondering about the encounter with the huge guy. If I was supposed to talk about him to one of my friends, am pretty sure I would have named something rather than call him "huge guy".291Please respect copyright.PENANAtFKP4eGmkK
"Hey, the project went pretty good. Thanks to you. If you were not there, I wonder what would I have done."291Please respect copyright.PENANAQHrZzeZ975
"That's so sweet of you. But you did all the hard work. I just helped you to frame it in the project. So how was the day overall?"291Please respect copyright.PENANAX0YRCvghcY
"It was pretty boring and exciting. And also I got some more college admission papers from my teachers. They have recommended me a few of them as my priorities. Can you help me out?"
"Yes, sure. Let me go and get changed. Just a few minutes."
I dash into the changing room while yelling to my colleague about my absence for the rest of the day. As unexpected as it is, I see the huge guy. I couldn't believe my eyes. He was talking to Janice. So they probably know each other.
"Oh, shit," I say as I stumble by the table.
"Hey, you. Still in hangover?" he leaves a short chuckle.
"Umm, hey. No. Not really. Am alright."
"You guys know each other?" Janice asks curiously.
"Well, not really. Met him in the bar yesterday night." I say with a squeamish voice.
"And helped her get home since she couldn't stop stumbling." he continues. We don't know each other well, but I find myself embarrassed and glaring at him for what he said.
"Well, in my defense, I drank a pretty lot. So.."
"Obviously, that's how people stumble down the streets after a lot of drinks." I can tell he was trying to get on my nerves, but he was really gentle with words, or that's what I thought.
"OK guys, enough. Let's go home. You need to help me out." Janice says louder for each one of us to hear rather than a debate happening on how many drinks should be drunk in a bar.
"Oh well, what about him?" I ask Janice out of curiosity.
"Oh well, am going home with her as I am a responsible brother who doesn't want my little sister to stumble down the street."
This was more embarrassing than I thought. Never did I imagine, I would be encountering this huge guy again with my favorite person. This was already getting too awkward, now it more awkward.
"OK guys, enough. Let's go home. And am sorry Gina, don't mind my brother."
"No, of course not. He helped me yesterday night, I can't be mad at him, right?"
Right, but how come this lonely guy from yesterday is too cheerful now. Guess maybe, I can't read people as I used to.
