Hi guys!! Today I decided to try Disney Family´s recipe: D-O Cookies!!! I would first like to thank my amazing Mom for getting the ingredients and once again allowing me to bake! I would also like to thank my amazing sis for making these cookies with me! Okay guys, so this ¨recipe¨ is going to be different than any other recipes, well because instead of baking, we´re going to be decorating the cookies! Me and my sister love decorating cookies during Christmas Time, so we couldn´t wait to decorate/make a D-O cookie! D-O is a cute little robot that was featured in the Rise Of SkyWalker! When I saw these cookies, I couldn´t resist, but to send the recipe to my Mom! Okay enough of me talking, let´s go to the steps of how me and my sis made the cookies! Also here is the link: https://family.disney.com/recipe/d-o-cookies-star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker/
Okay, let´s go to the decorating!! Before you start decorating the D-O cookie, I highly recommend that you skip to the 6th step of the recipe. I think that you should go to the 6th step first rather than 1st because then you don´t have to wait once you started making the other half of the cookie when starting with the 6th step. We rolled out Nestle´s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (you can make your own if you want though). Me and my sis removed the chocolate chips and rolled out the rest of the dough. We cut out a three inch round circle, a 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch rectangle, and a small plant shape. I highly suggest that when you´re cutting out the dough into pieces that you make 2 of each just incase (if you don´t need it incase, you can always have it for a fun lil snack!) If you have any left over cookie dough, you can form some regular sized cookies too! Next, you´re going to bake the cookies at 350F until a light golden brown, my sis got light golden brown, but I got a little darker brown because I sized my cookie smaller than hers. Now back to the 1st step!First get your white chocolate melts and put it in a microwavable bowl and let it melt for about 10 seconds. Whenever I melt melts, I like to stir it so that it gets the right ¨melt¨! Get your sandwich cookie (we used golden oreos) and coat it with the white chocolate. To be honest, this can be a really mess mess with the melts, so I recommend that you don´t do this with younger kids. When putting the oreo in the melts, to make it a less mess I recommend using a spoon to put the white chocolate over the oreo/ cookie. Also, once your down coating the cookie put it under foil so that it will dry quicker! I learned that hack today (I think it´s rlly cool!) Next you have to cut off two inches of a sugar cone, I couldn´t even cut it off by myself so my Mom had to help me! She had cutted it perfectly to shape D-0´s head! When you get the tip of the cone, dip into into the white chocolate melts (again I recommend using the spoon so that itś not that big of a mess). Put the tip of the cone under the foil to let it dry. Next, you´re going to cut 1/2 inch off of a pretzel stick. Coat the part of the pretzel that you cut into the white chocolate melts and allow to dry. To make it dry quicker put it in the tin foil along with the cone and your cookie!:D
Coat the other half of your pretzel into the gray candy melt. To make the gray candy melt spoon 2 tbsps of the white melts into a microwavable bowl with the black candy melts (we couldn´t find black candy melts, so we used brown candy melts which works still the same, but it didn´t turn out as a light gray, it turned out more brownish). Stir the melts together and then coat the pretzel with a spoon. Next you´re going to cut a 1/4- inch piece off from a licorice twist. Me and my sis got black licorice, I know that not a lot of people are a fan of black licorice (even though I am a fan) so my sister used red licorice. It´s up to you what you want to do! Next it says that we´re going to make D-0´s antenna. Using a black royal icing piping bag pip 3 one inch long strands to make D-0´s antenna. At Target, they didn´t have black royal icing so my Mom bought a brown Pilsbury piping bag! Sadly D-0´s antenna didn´t dry enough when we were assembling D-0, so I feel like this step isn´t really necessary to do, instead of having icing you can use pretzels that are dipped into candy melts! Also at target, we couldn´t find red dot sprinkles so we used licorice and cut off some pieces and glued it onto the pretzels with some frosting to represent D-0´s antenna lights! Next you fill the dipped cone with white frosting (we used Pilsbury´s white frosting pipping bag and it worked amazing!) Me and my sis were having a blast using the pipping bag and when we opened the package the frosting was already in the bag, it was so easy to just grab it and continue with making D-0! Next you put in the three strands of icing (or pretzels dipped in chocolate). Once your finished, in another bowl put 2 tbsp of green royal icing with 1 tbsp of water. The water made it kind of hard to dip the tip of the white cone into so I would recommend to put 4 tbsp of green royal icing so that it would be a little easier to put the green frosting onto the cone! Once your done dipping your cone into the frosting, put it under the parchament paper (or foil) to let it dry! Next comes the fun part! Decorating with icing!!! On the dipped cookie (oreo) add D-0´s wheel details with the green icing and any other icing colors that you have left over! I reccomend using a pipping bag, because it is easier to use when adding details! At this point into the recipe, I was really tired so I kind of sadly gave up on piping! We couldn´t find a edible black marker, but that was okay! If you have an edible black marker, I recommend that you use it though to make your details pop out more! Then allow to dry in a open space! When you´re decorating/making the D-0 cookie I highly recommend that you do this in an open area and with lots of space because this can get really messy and it takes out a lot of room! Next it says to brush coco powder spots onto different parts of D-0´s head. My mom, sis, and I decided to skip this part because we thought that this wasn´t really needed to waste cocoa powder for something that would fall down because they cocoa powder wouldn´t stick on to parts of D-0´s head since everything was dry. Next was step 6, but we already did that so now we can go to step 7! If you have any remaining frosting with 2 tsp of cocoa powder you can make a tan colored frosting. My mom said that we should just skip this step because it wasn´t really neccesary and we already had a brown frosting which was good enough! But if you want to make a tan frosting, go for it! Spread your frosting over the 3 inch round cookie that you made with the cookie dough! The next step is to dip the recentagle (also made with the cookie dough) into the white melts. Sadly our white melts had already dryed up because it had took so long to do the other steps. Also, we kind of forgot about the recentagle, whoops! The other step is to mix 1 tbsp of cocoa powder with the green icing. We just used the regular green icing and covered the plant cookie with the cookie dough. Now comes the assembly which was the hardest part and what made making this cookie (which took 2 hours) to turn into a sadly failed experiment! First you put the sandwich cookies which is way bigger than my 3 inch round cookie onto of the 3 inch round cookie. I was like,¨umm, this doesn´t make sense. Why is something bigger going to be unsupported?¨537Please respect copyright.PENANAUQTSaZvth8
It was really unsupported and after many tries my Mom decided to use a pretzel stick at the back of the sandwich cookie to make it stand up easier, which worked!! I was so happy! Next we add the licorice piece to the top of the sandwich cookie with frosting and then we put the cone onto of the small-unsupported licorice piece. Well this didn´t hold up at all so for the picture, I had to hold it! Sorry for my hand in the way!!! I just didn´t make sense at all for a sugar cone to be supported by a small licorice piece.
In conclusion, this recipe was not the best recipe! It was really fun to make and all, but it was very hard to assemble and we couldn´t even assemble it! My Mom had spent $30 on all of the ingredients and by the time we tried the cookie everything was in crumbles! The cookie had fallen apart! (Although the cookie parts tasted really good!) I don´t really recommend trying this recipe, but if you have a really boring day and I want to try something new I would recommend trying this recipe! Here is what my mom and sis say about the D-0 recipe.
Sis: ¨Bad!¨
Mom: ¨Umm it was time consuming and expensive.¨
Thank you so much for reading my blog post today! Thank you to my Mom and Sis for helping me with making it and doing it with me!
