"Aera, I'm sorry." he said, "For hurting you so much."
"It's okay." she replied, "I understand that you feel bad about it. You had your reasons."
"Still, I wish I could take it all back." he said, "Except, you know, those times when I ignored you. And you know what I did after I did that? I laughed. I thought it was funny to tickle you until you wanted to die."
"Yeah..." she said, "Every time I see you now, your laugh is enough to give me nightmares for days."
"But, he said as he caressed her cheek, "I wish we could be together." Aera gazed into his eyes for a moment, before looking away. "We can't." she said, "It would only lead to heartbreak and that's something I'm not willing to risk anymore."
"I promise, he said as he brought her closer to him. "I won't hurt you again." She lifted her gaze to meet his once more. "You can't make that promise." she said, "Because I won't let you."
That night, in his last moments, he thought back to the times that they spent together. He thought about the times that she saved him and how he saved her. He thought about the times that they laughed and how they cried. He thought about how they were truly meant to be together, as he felt her lips on his one last time.
"Goodbye, my love." he said. He wiped a single teardrop from her eye and gave her one last kiss before closing his eyes. She hugged him as he closed his eyes for the last time and faded away. Aera had cried for what felt like hours, regretting not spending any more time with him.
In the morning, she found a letter on the kitchen table. She opened it and began to read.
I'm sorry that I couldn't tell you how I truly felt. I wish I could've had more time to spend with you, but the only words I have left are these.
I love you with all my heart.
Aera smiled as she read his words for the last time.
THE END
Thank you dear readers, for reading my short story Forever Ours. Before I post my official story, Ripple Effect (this time an actual story with 45 chapters) I'm going on an indefinite hiatus until the release of the new book. I'm so glad we went on a short journey about these two lovers, and I'll promise you I'll work harder on my future books. It gets a little crazy living with a big family with having little to no time writing, since I'm a teenage writer trying to get through school and getting inspirations from my favorite authors like Alina Rose. I want to write and inspire you guys to always follow your dreams, and my dream is to create fictional worlds that you guys will love. I'm so sorry for not publishing anything for a long time, I was working on the new story and had finished the first ten chapters already. Like I've said before, I'll be on a indefinite hiatus but will return. Stay safe and warm out there!
Kind regards, laila.
