Bailey became his go between for meeting everyone in class, the lad was like sunshine, bright, personable, easy going. By the end of the second week he was having breaks and lunches with a whole new group of friends, there was a nice mixture of boys and girls, everyone seemed cool. At lunchtimes or if a lesson was cancelled they all went to the student bar and played Uno. Someone had two sets which was more than enough cards for the 12 people who normally gathered. Shen was finding out he loved Uno it was so much fun, everybody laughed and groaned cursed and threw straws at each other.

He fell into a rhythm, get up have breakfast, go to University, meet friends, go to class, eat a massive lunch, something healthy and filling like pasta, pie or vegetables, because he was proving to be a shit cook. When he got in from Uni he just had a sandwich or ramen noodles. No one cared about teaching him to cook his own meals, yes poor Shen.

Going back to clueless Shen the first few weeks were heaven, he was his own person, he came and went whenever he pleased, he wasn’t hampered by curfews or parents. It was the most freeing experience. Well until it came to being on his own at night, which habitually meant his mind raked up everything horrible thing which happened to him, every disgusting fact was glowing in technicolour. It became so bad he started buying Jack Daniels and mixing it with Coke. A few before bed made his brain foggy enough to go to sleep, anything to get by.

At University there was always a night out in the town centre, a party, or just drinking at the student bar, this seemed all normal to Shen who had spent his early to late teens drinking his life away. Initially it seemed okay, no one seemed to go all out until they passed out etc, there were a few in the group who were more sensible than the rest. They were the ones who said “Time to go home.” and everyone just scattered back to their various dormitories. They could still talk and chat with each other even after they had gone home. Shen however was so fucking lonely it was eating him up inside.

He had yet to 'come out’ to his new friends that he was bi, there were a few who seemed like they would be understanding and a few of the boys who seemed too straight to ever understand his preferences. So he kept it to himself and stuck with flirting with girls.

They worked all night on their assignment, when it was time for dinner Shen went out to the local pizza place and brought back a pepperoni pizza. They sat on the floor eating and chatting, Bailey was so easy to talk to, it was like he had an infinite cache of small talk, he was very good at finding out what Shen was interested in and Bailey would ask him all sorts of questions.
