I wake up to the sound of my mother yelling at me. “Mary wake up or you will be late for school again.” I jump out of my bed and run to the bathroom and freshen up and get dressed for school. I race down the stairs into the kitchen where my mother is standing with my prepared lunchbox and breakfast. “Just grab your breakfast and make sure you get on the bus because if you don’t you will have to walk all the way to school.” I grab a piece of toast with jam on it, put my lunch box in my backpack and while I sprint out the door I say to my mother. “See you later love you mom.” I am out of the door and sprinting to the bus stop before she can answer. I go as fast as I can and manage to just jump on the bus which results in a slightly angry look from the bus driver. I quickly apologize and take a seat in the middle of the bus. For the entire time I sit in the bus I am looking outside the window watching the scenery that I see everyday only with slight variations in regards to: people on the street, weather, cars parked, animals walking around and during the festive seasons there are all sorts of decorations out. It is only late November and I am already seeing the odd Christmas tree every now and then. After a solid 15 mins of sitting in the bus looking outside the window I arrive at the bus stop in front of my school. I walk the short distance from the bus stop to the school gate. While I walk through the gate I greet the teacher standing there and go to my locker to grab the books I need. My school day proceeded like every other school day: make a couple of exercises, make some tests, listen to the teachers trying to talk over the loud class. I am happy once I finish the day as I grab the books I need to study during the weekend out of my locker and walk out towards the bus stop. I arrive at the bus stop and let out a sigh because I just missed the bus and the next bus is in an hour. So I decide that I should just walk home since that is faster. It is slowly turning dark as I walk besides the river bed. It is fairly cold but luckily I have my warm winter jacket on and I am wearing my gloves. During my walk I suddenly see something sparkle in the grass besides the river I slowly walk towards it and pick it up. In the moonlight it becomes clear that it is one of those old lamps that I believe they used in the middle east if I remember my history classes correctly. It looks pretty but it is partially covered in mud so I decide to put it in my jacket pocket so that I can clean it and keep it. The rest of my walk was fairly uneventful although I felt an eerie warmth radiating from my jacket pocket. I walk into my house and directly go to my room and put my jacket and backpack there before going to the kitchen where my mother had just finished with diner. She made my favorite macaroni with cheese and ham. “So how was your day sweetie?” She asks likes she does every day I come home from school and I answer like I always do. “It was ok mom” I say as I stuff my face with the delicious food in front of me. After I finish eating I help my mother with the dishes I run upstairs and grab the lamp out of my jacket and go to the bathroom to clean it. I grab a washcloth and run it under hot water before I start scrubbing the lamp clean. While I am rubbing the lamp purple smoke starts to pour out of it and circling around me until the only thing I see is blue smoke and then the smoke disappears. When the smoke clears I am standing in a seemingly infinite room with a dark blue floor and a starry night sky as the ceiling and walls. I look in amazement around the room and then out seemingly nowhere a purple man appears seemingly made out of smoke and says. “Hello there little girl I am the genie of this lamp and you found me so you get 1 wish lucky you.” His voice is filled with excitement like one of those over the top Tv presenters. “Wait do genies not give 3 wishes why am I getting 2?” This question gets answered by a short laugh and a brief explanation. “This is not some fantasy story you get 1 wish and 1 wish only plus there are 3 rules: you can not wish for money, you can not bring anyone back from the dead and you cannot kill anyone. Do you understand small one?” He asks as he bows down to get on my eye level. “Yes I think so.” “Good perfect to make your wish you just have to say I wish and then what you wish for.” “Ok I wish for a dragon.” For the second time the genie lets out a laugh and looks me dead in the eye. “Pick something more realistic small one I can only do so much here.” I let out a disappointed sigh. “Ok then I wish for the perfect boyfriend.” The genie looks at me slightly confused and summons a tablet out of nowhere and looks at me. “What is your full name little one?” “my name is Mary Bowman.” I say slightly confused by his question. He quickly types on his tablet looks at it looks at me then back again and lets out a long sigh and looks back at me. “You sure you don’t want anything else like a pony for example maybe an unlimited supply of food.” “No I want a dragon or a boyfriend.” I say looking in his eyes. He lets out a final sigh before standing straight again. “Ok everything you need to make your wish come true will be in the place you leave my lamp in 8 hours Mary goodbye.” He says before snapping his fingers and the familiar purple smoke surrounds me and puts me back in the bathroom. I close my eyes as the sudden bright light of the bathroom fills them. After a while I get used to it and look at the time only 4 minutes have past. I walk out of the bathroom and put the lamp in my closet which luckily for me is a big walk in one. I place it in the center of the closet and grab my pajama before walking out and closing the closet door. I put on my pajamas, brush my teeth and wish my mother a goodnight before getting into bed and falling asleep.
