I wake up at 8 am which is normal for me during the weekend. As I sit up on my bed and remember what happened last night and run to my closet to collect my copy of “How to get a boyfriend 101”. I open the closet door and look in awe as I see a big scaly rainbow colored egg in a big basket filled with pillows and a big booklet in front of it. I walk towards the booklet and pick it up on the front it says in big bold letters ‘how to raise a dragon in the modern day’. I open the booklet and see a table of contents it sums up all kinds of things like: how to make the dragon hatch, how to make a dragon blend in, how to teach your dragon human skills, etc. I read the beginning of the instruction manual on how to hatch the dragon it says that the egg needs to be warm at all times so I grab all of my: sweaters, hoodies, jackets, blankets and scarfs and wrap them around the egg. After I finish wrapping the egg in everything that keeps me warm I go downstairs to go eat breakfast. “Finally you are awake Mary eat up I made some eggs and bacon.” As I eat my breakfast I begin to think about the fact that the genie found a dragon more realistic then me getting a boyfriend. I force myself to focus on my breakfast before my thoughts go to far into the topic. I finish my breakfast, thank my mom and do the dishes before going back up to my room and walk into my closet. I go and grab the booklet and go to the chapter of hatching a dragon. “Keep the egg for a minimum of one week at around thirty degrees Celsius or eighty-six Fahrenheit.” I go and grab one of those infrared thermometers my mother has in the bathroom for incase we are sick. I go back to the egg and point the thermometer. After three seconds I read the text on the small greenish screen “30°”. I smile knowing that the egg is at the right temperature. My only worry at this point is the fact that there is a 60cm wide dragon egg in the middle of my closet as soon as someone would walk in they would see it and I would have a lot to explain. So I slowly and carefully push the basket with the egg into the corner of the closet and hope that it just looks like a big pile of blankets. I grab the booklet again and continue reading. “After the dragon has hatched you may think you will need to hide it from the world but no need to worry you very own dragon has the ability to transform into the same species as its owner.” I let out a soft sigh of relief if hiding this egg is already a worrisome task I could never imagine hiding an entire dragon. But then another problem arises in my head how am I supposed to convince my parents as to why a random person now lives with us luckily the book has an answer for that to. “Now you may wonder how to convince the people close to you that this new addition to your household has always existed depends on what kind of dragon you have the type of dragon can be determined by the color and size of the egg.” I walk to the egg and look at the color in more detailed the best way I could describe it is rainbow colored. The size is about 60 cm as I now know the color and size I try to find my dragon using the handy dandy table provided. I look past all kinds of different colors standard ones like: red, blue, green, and yellow some are apparently metallic like: gold, silver, bronze, titanium and even mercury the final real category is gemstones: emerald, ruby, sapphire and topaz the final color not belonging to any category is the one I have rainbow. I look further to find my size to find only 1 egg size exists while most have 3 or 4. I go to the page that it told me to go to for more info about my dragon. “The rainbow dragon is the child of a female sapphire dragon and a male titanium dragon that has been struck by lightning or has been exposed to another source of high voltage. Thanks to the unique conditions it takes for one to be born most people do not see one in their entire life some belief they are good willed wish granters others believe they are evil mind manipulators.” I read that in surprise I have never seen a dragon before and now I have the rarest one. I continue to read waiting for the part where it says how I can convince my parents that this creature has always been here. “The rainbow dragon has the unique power of memory manipulation making it easy for the owner to make others believe that the new addition to the family.” I continue to read until I see in bright red colors and in bold it reads. “DISCLAIMER THE RAINBOW DRAGON ONLY ACCEPTS COMMANDS FROM THOSE WITH A PURE HEART AND THOSE WHO TREAT IT WITH KINDNESS AND RESPECT!!!” As I read that I hope it accepts me and does not go rogue because that would be a total nightmare. I continue reading finding out some more things about my new companion: all of them are female, they are infertile the ones who are treated with kindness are kind themselves, those treated with malice are known to turn evil and capable to control entire countries. That final piece of information sound familiar then I remember the whole lizard people conspiracy theory and I smile a bit to myself. I close the booklet and check the time “6pm” I put the booklet next to the egg and go downstairs. “Finally Marry I called you over like three times dinner is almost ready go and set the table.” My mom says and I go and set the table for diner. “So what where you doing that you did not hear me call you.” “I was doing homework mom.” She looks at me slightly skeptical and after a couple of seconds she responds. “Oh look at my little student.” She says as she ruffles my hair. I move my head out of the way. “mom I have told you not to do that.” I say slightly annoyed as I finished my dinner and put my dishes away. I go to sleep that night dreaming of my dragon I do this every night until a week passes and I rush in my closet to find my new dragon.
