“Less, bring those boxes down here. We have to leave in 5” yelled dad from downstairs.
“Coming dad” I yelled back
" Dad, I need a minute. No one unpacked the guest bedroom” called my brother.
I staggered downstairs holding a heavy, large cardboard box and dumped it in the trunk.
Dad came up behind me and stacked it in a more...orderly manner, before turning to me.
“Get in the car Lessa”
15 minutes later, we were all packed and ready to go. Dad loaded all the daily essentials in the trunk of the minivan and the movers had moved all the furniture in the truck and drove off a few minutes ago.
As dad drove on, I scrolled through my Instagram account while my brother snored away.
After an excruciatingly boring drive of 4 hours, we finally arrived at the small town of Ravenswood. Dad pulled the car up a road which seemed to be deserted. There were about three very large houses- two on one side of the road and one on the the other- but that was all. One of the houses seemed to be very expensively furnished and was noticeably much larger than the other two. It was obvious that the occupant had a lot of money and was a someone.
" Dad are we lost? ” My brother asked looking around.
“No we’re not Alex” Dad sighed walking towards the large brick house next to the luxurious mansion.
" This is our house” He said unlocking the door with a key and walking back towards the car and grabbing two suitcases.
“Bring the luggage in”
I and my brother Alex grabbed the two remaining suitcases and followed dad inside, closing the door behind us.
The house was much bigger than the one we had back in California and it really was beautiful.
“This is the house your grandmother left us” Dad said looking at us.
“Why did we even have to move here” groaned my brother. ” I mean the house is great, really big and all but the town? I mean seriously? Do they even have Burger King here? ”
“Alex, this is one very developed and modern town. Many entrepreneurs and businessmen built this town and settled down here, so I’m sure you will find that it is not your average town.” Dad explained.
“Anyways, you both should settle down; you have school in the morning and you don’t want to be late for your first day”
“But I’m hungry” whined Alex. ” Ask Alessa to get something to eat from the nearest diner or something”
“Why do I have to get it! Go get it yourself!”
“Yeah well I asked first and besides, I have school in the morning”
“So do I!”
“No one cares Alessa, you’re just boring and regular. I have to prep so that I become popular” Alex said haughtily
I was just about to retaliate with something just as cutting when my dad gave me a look that said ” I am exhausted and the last thing I want is to hear you two bicker”.
“We’ll unpack all the things while you go and get us some food” dad said.
I walked to the door grumbling and turned on the GPS on my phone, trying to locate the nearest food joint. I found a cute little dinner at a distance of 5 minutes away and made my way there.
At the dinner, I asked for a takeaway package of 3 hamburgers and fries and took a seat at one of the tables as I waited for my order. As I was looking around, my eyes fell on a boy sitting at a table a few feet in front of me. He was very attractive with long blonde hair that fell over his forehead and deep blue eyes. He was muscular and and seemed to be tall but I couldn’t say how tall as he was sitting down. I couldn’t help checking him out. He seemed to be around my age. I then noticed that he had a girl next to him; she seemed to be mad at him.
I discreetly watched them converse for a few moments more before the girl stood up and stormed out. The boy looked unbothered at her departure and scanned his surrounding till his eyes landed on me. He gave me a smirk when he saw that I was looking at him as well and walked over to my table and slid into the seat beside me. I was too shocked to say anything. He gave me a boyish smile and said “I’m Mike”
“Alessia” I said in response
I watched as he visibly checked me out. I was wearing a simple white T-shirt and jeans- nothing fancy. I knew I was attractive with my long wavy brown hair that fell behind my back and my greyish eyes framed by long dark eyelashes. I wasn’t very tall standing at a height of 5.2 but I was slim with decent curves.
“Want to go back to my place? I could show you a good time” he whispered, obviously sure of himself. Playboy alert!
I was taken aback by his forwardness and offended by his assumption that just because I looked at him for a moment he thought I would want to go home with him; he evidently thought he was irresistible . I neutrally looked at him and bluntly answered
“No thank you, I would rather not” before sliding out the other end and walking towards the counter to collect my order, leaving him dumbfounded. I swiped my credit card and paid for my food before walking out the door not giving the boy another look.
Upon reaching home, I handed dad and Alex their food before making my way to my new room. Apparently the movers had arrived while I was gone and dad had had them place my bed and dresser in my new room already. I sat on my bed as I finished my dinner. Tomorrow would be my first day at the Ravenswood high school; I could only hope that it would go smoothly but knowing my luck, it would be anything but.
