A Big Change
“Mom I’m going to school and I will come back home at 5:00 pm after my karate class,” said Sara cheerfully. Sara lived in Mumbai with her parents and younger sister Rhadika. She was studying in the fifth standard and also learning Karate at her school. She used to board the bus every morning, which took one hour to reach her school. She was training to get an orange belt in karate for which she was very excited. Only a week was left for her belt test.

On D-day, she was so excited that she woke up at 5 in the morning. After school, she went to the venue with a pounding heart. She and Mohan were the only two candidates there for orange belt. Mohan and Sara were tested for their skills in Kihon, Kata, and Kata Bunkai. Sara performed well and the examiner seemed to be satisfied with her performance.

On the way home she was very happy. As her mother opened the door she jumped and hugged her. “Oh mom, I did it” cried, Sara. “That’s like my strong girl,” said her mom “I also have some news for you. Your father has got a promotion.”, “Didi, we are going to China” divulged a jovial Rhadika. Sara gave a curious look to her mother who nodded to confirm “Yes Sara, with the promotion, he has got a transfer too! His organization has transferred him to China. We have to shift there in two months.”. Sara’s happiness turned into sadness.
After 2 months their big suitcases were being loaded into the taxi. Sara was saying bye to her friends in Mumbai. It was a long journey of fifteen hours that took them to Beijing or Peking airport, in China.
For some time they stayed in a guest house, arranged by her father's employer. It took about a month for her father to find a house in the outskirts of Beijing
