Dev - A new friend
Sara met a boy named Dev in his class, who was of Indian origin and knew Hindi. Mushroomish already knew him as both of them were practicing the karate class. Now when Sara had also enrolled in karate class, the three of them grew fond of each other. They frequently hung out after school and practice, chatting about India, China, and America. Sara got amazed to know that Dev was the Principal’s son. More shocking was to hear Dev was her stepson. Sara was curious about Dev’s family, but she did not asked much about it.
Dev was familiar with the nearby places. He told Sara and Mushroomish about the Chinese Traditional Market that was about one km away from the school. Next day after the school dinner Sara, Mushroomish, and Dev went to the Traditional Market. Mushroomish said, “Let’s have some mushroom soup, and then we will go back to school”. Sara added " We would eat सारा (all in Hindi). All laughed out loud and went to a small noodle-soup outlet and ordered 3 bowls of mushroom soup. When they were having their soups, sitting on a bench placed in the corner of the street, they heard someone talking about guns and blasts, they were talking in English. Bowl of soup fell of Mushroomish's hand as she frenzied by the violent plan she heard. Dev and Mushroomish turned back and saw two men. One of them pointed his finger towards children and doubted they have heard the plan. That man whispered something in the other man’s ear and then they started walking towards Dev Sara and Mushroomish. Dev and Mushroomish panicked and started running towards the school through backward narrow lanes of the market. Those men chased them and one of them caught hold of Dev. He tried to shout for help, but the man pressed Dev’s mouth, stopping him to shout out. The other one grabbed Mushroomish. They dumped the children into the back of a truck. They closed and locked the shutters. Then the two goons went towards the road.

Sara, throughout this pandemonium, did not moved from her place eluding the attention of the criminals. When the goons went away from the truck to bring back their stuff from the previous place, she went to the truck and started banging the shutter with a boulder. It took her ten minutes to break a small part of the shutter. She cried “Hurry up! Come out”. Dev and Mushroomish came out of the shutter and ran towards the school.

They went running back towards the school and divulged the whole incident to the principal. Principal immediately called the police. Two police officers arrived at the school within fifteen minutes. All three children were sitting in the Principal’s room. Officers inquired them one by one. Going by the details they sensed that it was an emergency. They alarmed the police control room. A high alarm was sent all through the area. The goons were soon in the custody of the police. Police recovered a haul of arms from their vehicle. Their mission was to murder the mayor of Jining. It was averted because of the timely information provided to the police. Sara was thanked for the effort that she had made to save her schoolmates. Officers appreciated, how the three karate kids braved the situation and prevented a grave crime.
