“Why did you run”
The only noise heard was the ticking sound from the clock. I stayed quiet.
“Look, your fingerprints were found on both the weapon and body. We also saw you enter and leave her house. The last made phone call was made to one person...you. All of our evidence is leading to one person.
The man picked up a folder and placed it in front of me. Sliding it, encouraging me to open it.
---------------------------
“He hates her” He stated indifferently. I rolled my eyes as he walked past me.
“No, he doesn’t. She just makes him feel things that he claims he doesn’t exist” It was obvious no matter how hard he tried to hide it.
---------------------------
Tears streamed down his face, as his knees collapsed, unable to support him. I could only watch in pain as he suffered, knowing it was my fault. I caused it.
“You were always the strong one...I just wanted to prove that I could too. It wasn't supposed to end this way...”
---------------------------
“I'm not some machinery that you can create and destroy over and over again. You can't revive me. This is forever”
Her words only seemed to get quieter the more she spoke. Her breathing slowed. Movements stopped. The bright light which I only saw in her slowly disappeared...
Along with the last of my humanity.
---------------------------
My father once told me that a mask can only last as long as people choose to believe in it. Sometimes I catch myself thinking about it. I used to believe that he was the wisest in the world. Now I would think about how he could live so naively.
A mask can survive for as long as the person wants. Why? Because nothing can stay the same. After a while, you find yourself slowly becoming the mask. Not being able to tell the difference. I know. I was a victim. One who thought that they could become whoever they wished. But like everyone else, I lost myself in the disguise...
