“Why did you run”

The only noise heard was the ticking sound from the clock. I stayed quiet. It seems that I just can’t take a break. A man sat directly across from me. With the only thing separating us was a table. I look at the camera, beside the table, before looking directly at the man.

“Look, your fingerprints were found on both the weapon and body. We also saw you enter and leave her house. All of our evidence is leading to one person…you.”

He picked up a fold and placed it in front of me. Sliding it, encouraging me to open it. I hesitantly open the folder. He raises an eyebrow, taking in my reaction. Inhaling deeply before continuing,”You don’t seem surprised?”I wasn’t . I had already seen it. My eyes started at the dead body…

“We can work something out” I try to reason. The man grabbed and chair and sat in front of me. “Not until you tell me what you did” He held my chin up, causing me to flinch from the pain. I groan as I look around, my eyes darting across the room, readjusting from the lack of light. Trying to find anything I could bargain with. I struggled to keep my eyes open. They felt so heavy.

I impatiently tap my foot on the concrete and look at my watch. I was already 10 minutes late. I had to meet up with Adrienne but Quinn was running late. As much as I loved my best friend she had no sense of time. Often when late she would shrug it off, saying she was only being fashionably late.

A car slowly pulls up,” Hurry up, get in!! You’re already late.” I roll my eyes as I pulled the handle, to open the car door. “I wouldn’t if someone would check the time, every once in a while.” She dismissively waved her hand as she sped up. My eyes wondered into her direction Her long brown hair reached her shoulders. Green eyes look somehow looked off today, yet nothing else seemed different. The more I stared, the more I understood why people mistook us for each other. I felt like I was looking into a mirror.

“Life is too short to do that. If you check the time all day you would never have time to do anything” I sigh and admit defeat, knowing I wouldn’t be able to win a losing battle. Quinn was stubborn when it came to having fun, meaning she wouldn’t listen to anything I say. She believed that without fun there would be no point in living.

The ride to Ms. Crane’s house was cheerful as always. She was always the one to make you smile when you felt like crying. Knowing just the right thing to say. Always able to somehow look at things differently, in a way you never would before, without knowing it. That was just how she was.

Before I knew it we was pulling up into Ms. Crane’s Driveway. I give Quinn a quick wave before making my way to the porch. Ms. Crane had a fairly big house. One that I probably couldn’t afford my entire, even if I saved every penny. I wouldn’t come close.

I tap the doorbell once, before waiting. Twice. Thrice. Still no answer. I knocked on the door, hoping that she was nearby. Still no answer. The lights seemed to be off. The thought of her not being home disappeared when I realized her car was still in the driveway. Could she maybe be sleep. Or was she actively ignoring me?

Getting impatient I twist the doorknob to find out that it was open. If only I had realized that 10 minutes ago. I could have saved a lot a time.

The floor creaked as I walked further into the room. Still no sign of her. The sound of glass bee echoed throughout the house. I ran towards the sound. Mrs. Crane's Vases were shattered into million pieces, almost unrecognizable. A body stood in the middle. I sprinted to it and kneeled on both of my knees. My hand first went to her pulse point. My head couldn’t accept it. My fingers stayed there. Still no pulse.

The sound of footsteps came from behind me.

I turned, but not quick enough. A hard object collided with the side of my head. Pain spread throughout my head. I held my head as I fell, sharp shards of glass penetrated my unsuspecting skin. The room started to spin. I could hear a voice but could make out one word. Shit. My vision started to fade. Until darkness begin to take over
