Prologue
Lydia stared at the building in front of her, it was her first day of school. Lydia had always dreamed of going to school, she wanted to read and write and do all sorts of things! But was she the only one who felt this nervous? “It’s so big.” Lydia turned around, beside her was a girl with long blonde hair, she smiled. “Hi I’m Ainsley- and I’m Charlie!” Another girl with short brown hair jumped onto Ainsley’s shoulders, laughing with excitement. “I couldn’t wait for my first day! And look! It’s finally here!” Charlie exclaimed. Lydia chuckled. “Aren’t you nervous?” She asked. Ainsley slowly nodded her head. There was silence for a few seconds until Charlie broke it. “RACE YOU INSIDE!!!” Charlie dashed up the school stairs, Ainsley was right behind her. Lydia turned around, her parents smiled at her. She gave them a tight hug, and after one more glance of the neighbour hood, she ran off after Charlie and Ainsley, for a take of friendship, and adventure, had just begun. 19Please respect copyright.PENANAS0KxCfHMPi

five years later
Lydia was walking through the halls to her classroom, with Charlie and Ainsley beside her. Ainsley was quiet as usual, while Charlie was bursting with excitement. Aurora, a new friend of Lydia’s was waiting at the door with Rhianna. “Ready for the spelling test?” Aurora asked. Lydia jumped. “IT’S TODAY!!!???” Lydia screamed but not to loud that the hole hallway could hear her. Aurora nodded with an expression that said “really you forgot again?” “The words better be pig and pig and pig!” Said a familiar voice. Patrick smiled at Lydia, everyone knew that Patrick had an obsession over pigs, whenever someone said pork or bacon or ham, he would so mad. Lydia sat down beside Joseph, flipping through pages of a Narnia book. “Alright class. Clear off your desk, it’s time for the spelling test.” Came the sound of mrs. Pikula’s voice. Lydia grabbed a butterfly pen Aurora had given her on the first day of grade five. Lydia wrote down the words mrs. Pikula had called out. Hareem collected the papers and passed them to the teacher. When it was recess Lydia sat by her favourite tree as she continued to read her book, when Patrick skipped over. He peeked his head over her shoulders. “What are you reading?” Patrick asked. “Just a fantasy book.” Lydia replied. Ainsley and Charlie ran over to see what the duo was doing. Ainsley pointed to a picture in the book. “I wish I could go there.” Everyone nodded in agreement. As Lydia was reading Rowan swaggered over. “Hey Lydia! Still dreaming of riding dragons? Ha!” He said. Ainsley stood up. “How about you just leave us alone Rowan!” “What are you gonna do? Send a griffon to come attack me? Ha!” Just after Rowan had said this, a gust of wind zoomed past knocking Rowan over. Rowan opened his eyes, there was a sense of confusion and fear. Lydia looked up, there was a cloud that looked exactly like a dragon! “What are you looking at?” Ainsley asked. “Nothing.” Lydia replied. Was it just a coincidence that there was a giant gust of wind strong enough to push Rowan over and a cloud that looked like a dragon at the same time!? Was Lydia just seeing things? Lydia didn’t know, but she did know that things were about to get complicated. 19Please respect copyright.PENANAeq48AZ55ZZ

Chapter two: a new world
Lydia didn’t know what to think, the thought that real magic and power could strike at any time without anyone knowing would happen was a little concerning. Lydia looked up, the dragon cloud was gone. “Lydia are you okay???” Charlie asked. “Yes. I’m fine.” Lydia replied. Lydia closed the book. At the end of the day, Lydia went to mrs. Cole, the school principal. Lydia told her what had happend and what she had seen at recess. “Are you sure what you say is true?” Mrs. Cole asked. “I know what I saw!” Lydia replied. “Hmmm. Lydia, you have an amazing imagination, but dragons and magic, that’s just not real.” Lydia felt a bubble of anger in her stomach, but she didn’t push it. “Okay I understand.” Lydia went home for the night, but she couldn’t sleep, what if dragons were real? What if magic and power was real? The next day, Lydia went to school with her friends. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Ainsley asked again. “Yeah c’mon Lyds you can tell us anything.” Charlie said. “I’ll tell you at recess.” Lydia replied. At recess Ainsley and Charlie waited at the oak tree where they would usually talk. Lydia explained to them about the dragon cloud, and the chat she had with mrs. Cole. Ainsley and Charlie were shocked. “Wha-what??? How!?” Ainsley managed to say, “NO WAY!!!” Charlie said, bursting with excitement. “Lydia.” A voice was calling Lydia’s name. “Do you guys hear that?” Lydia asked. “We do! Someone is calling our names!” Said Ainsley and Charlie. “Should we follow-YES WE SHOULD!!! Charlie interrupted. Lydia looked at Ainsley, it was as if her face was saying “don’t look at me.” “Alright let’s go follow the mysterious voice that we don’t even know anything about. Yeah we’ll all be fine!” So the girls followed the voice to a…um…tree An oak tree. “Huh? A tree?” “Yeah I thought it would be some kind of magical portal that only we can see.” “Do we need to wait here or try knocking on the tree or something like that?” Lydia shrugged. “Hey guys! What are you doing?” Patrick joyfully skipped over. Lydia slowly moved back. “I just heard this strange voice calling my name and it lead me here.” Charlie looked at Lydia as if she were saying “really patrick to?” Patrick leaned against the tree. “So what are you guys doin-AHHHHHHHHH!!!!” “Patrick!!!” Lydia cried. “Going doooown!” A voice said from the portal. Ainsley walked over to the tree. “What just happened?” She asked. “Oh, we’ll Patrick leaned against the tree, fell right through and invisible hole in the tree and is probably falling to his death as we speak. That’s what just happend.” Charlie answered. Without hesitation Ainsley jumped right into the tree, she to was falling down. Charlie was about to go next when she turned to Lydia. “We’ll what are you waiting for?” Then Charlie jumped in. Lydia glanced around to make sure no one was looking but surprise, surprise, Rowan was staring straight at her. “Hurry.” A voice called from the portal, Rowan ran as fast as he could. Then Lydia jumped through the portal. “Ow!” Rowan said. Lydia was falling down down! There was no light, not even a lantern to be found. All Lydia could see was darkness. Still Lydia kept falling. Until she stopped. She was in a warm snow pile. She saw her friends looking at something or someone. Right in front of her was a smiling teenage girl, with long white hair, bright blue eyes, a white dress, white boots, white gloves, and she was wearing a necklace around her neck. “Your finally here.” She said. “Who are you?” Charlie asked. “Oh. Is it not obvious? Well Charlie, Lydia, Ainsley, and Patrick. I help everyone when it’s hot outside, now can you guess?” Ainsley walked forward. “We’ll I but you look like a princess and I don’t wanna say the wrong thing to a princess.” The girl chuckled. “We’ll I… am sister wind. 19Please respect copyright.PENANA0nANvVal5c
