I growled in frustration, running my fingers through messy black hair. I raised my foot and kicked it out towards my best friend, Ryan.
"Why're we even playing truth or dare! It's a stupid game for only two people."
Ryan's bright blue hair was disheveled and poking over his eyes. He shook uncontrollably, laughing at my blanched face. He was holding his left side as he squirmed. His face twisted up into a mix of pain and pleasure.
"You just don't want to watch Insidious because you're a scaredy-cat." He wheezed out another laugh.
I immediately bit the inside if my cheek. "Fuck off. I'm going to watch the first 30 minutes and then you can go jump off a cliff."
Ryan snickered and jumped up to his feet as though I had jammed my foot in his side ten seconds ago.
"Great! Now I won't have to tell Lucile about how much of a bitch you are."
"One, you can't tell my 9 year old sister that I'm a "bitch". My mom would kill you first. Two, I'm not a bitch."
He was already down the hallway, rummaging through my DVD collection. I could hear his faint chuckle and suddenly he was yelling.
"I'm always surprised at how a college student is living in an apartment."
Before I could answer the same exact question people always asked, he continued on.
"What's up with you having one hundred horror movies and not watching a single one?"
I sighed and wrapped myself in a large quilt and pulled up my fuzzy socks. I began shuffling through the hallway and leaning on the wall, scrutinized Ryan's loud nature.
"My neighbors hate when you come over. They think you're a loud-mouth thug." I said, mentally apologizing to them.
"Answer the question, Ollie."
"Okay, geez. I keep them because Lucile is in love with horror. I get her a new one every time she and the family come to visit me."
"Well aren't you such a good big brother. My little brother throws toy cars at my balls." He smiled fondly as he inserted the DVD into the player. I sat on the small sofa and laughed at his mean little brother. Ryan pressed play and suddenly he was at the front door pulling his old sneakers on.
"Hold the hell up. Where are you going? You're not leaving me here to watch a horror movie at like 9:30."
He laughed at my sudden panic and pulled on his light brown trench coat.
"Chill out man. I'm going to pick up that last minute pizza you ordered. If you get scared you can always call your mom." He smiled fondly as he left the door.
I sighed and leaned back into the sofa. 'This won't be too bad.' I started to watch the movie and could already feel my body tensing up. I hated suspense and suspense hated me.
I hadn't been watching for more than 20 minutes when I suddenly felt drowsy. That wasn't possible though, I had taken a 45 minute nap after finishing my studies.
I let out a small yawn even as my eyes darted all over the living room. The walls were slanting. The furniture looked warped and the colors were distorted. I was slipping even though I couldn't move. I had the sudden urge to wail as I felt a pain coil into my stomach
The last thing I remember was the movie glitching out to show a large towering building.
'Fucking horror movies.'
