It was one of the nights on which Rebecca couldn’t make up her mind whether he loved her or not.
Those nights she often spent alone in their bed, left to struggle to fall asleep, all while he would be in the next room, meditating or what on Earth else he did when he needed space. In the past 3 months she had realized that his work as one of the world’s main protectors was everything to him. He couldn’t let anything get in the way - or else, if he let one seemingly harmless agitator from another planet unwatched, it may have severe consequences. Consequences, not even the Sorcerers could hold on to for long.
So yeah, being the sister of the one and only Tony Stark, and an Avenger herself, she knew the risks of letting yourself to deep into an unstable relationship. Due to that fact, many people were amazed how lightly she took the fact that her boyfriend rarely had time for her.

She didn’t want people to look at him as a coldhearted, arrogant boyfriend. She knew exactly that was what some people were thinking, even her fellow coworkers such as Clint and of course her brother were trying to talk ‘sense’ into her.
But she knew, somewhere deep down Stephen kept another side of him hidden. She knew it. She saw the look in his eyes, the urge to tell her how much he loved her, but he simply couldn’t say it out loud. Work was certainly getting the better of them.
But one day she knew destiny would have its giant twist, and then everything will be different. A better life. Which would lead to a better relationship status. Two people combining work and love in a perfectly well-balanced fashion.

Well, all of this could and probably would have turned out this way - she was sure of it...
If there wouldn’t have been Thanos... and shattered all her desires and reduced her hope to the point where she was almost positive life she knew will forever be lost.

Even though it’s been just 21 days after the snap, the avengers - or what was left of them- lost all hope. They fought hard, they gathered every help in the world they could, they worked together, thinking they could win the war, and yet they have failed. And half of all beings in the Universe had to pay the price. A huge, unforgivable loss for everyone. For the first time, the Avengers lost. For Rebecca it was twice as hard. First she lost her boyfriend, then her brother. And now the ultimate end of the Avengers dreaded literally in front of their front door. The people have lost their fate in them, and they slowly began to realize that it wouldn’t make a difference for them to do the same.
