“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten,” my mother whispered in my ear. “If you can imagine that you can defeat a dragon, you can do just about anything. ” The words my mother said to me last night echo in my head as I sink down in my chair.
My mother is sweet and beautiful, but the things she says are full of lunacy and are near mad. It's the mere fact that over the course of sixteen years that I have moved from house to house, or more like apartment to apartment. All in all, she messed up my life. Because of her I never made many friends, had no long term relationships, and never finished a year at a school once. Now, I’m in J.Clooney High School living in the apartment above the Hao Chi restaurant in town, practically alone.
School is boring, as usual. For me, it was meant to be that way. I've seen it all and have been through it all, there's no more for me to see or to hear. Knowing this, I've managed to stay hidden in these past few schools. I would do the usual routine of coming into class, handing the homeroom teacher the schedule, and slump into my seat. For lunch, I'll go to library, if I couldn't, I would go to the bathroom and hide. After that, I might sneak outside and wait until the bell rang.
This school is different though. The boys are actually attractive, the teachers are nice as well as the students, and I never get in trouble for sneaking out of the lunchroom. Yet, that's not just it. There's a boy.
Not long ago, when I was in my last school, I met a guy. He was beautiful and his deep blue eyes seemed to understand me and comforted me a great deal. Yet, in this school, this boy is just about a masterpiece. He was the ultimate perfect guy for any girl with a great imagination. His hair was dark brown and fell over his an eye, and his tan skin brought out the bright green color of his eyes, making him look extraterrestrial.
Yet, out of all the girls in school, he talked to me. On the first day of school, he came up to my table and sat next to me at lunch, making me feel awkward but less alone. Since then, he gave me something to look forward to. Was it his smile or his captivating looks?
I tapped my pencil against the table with eagerness, sitting up and just knowing that he was going to be the one to walk into the door. I looked at the door, transfixed. In a seconds, he would be here. My heart pounded in my chest with excitement, and then I knew.
"Jasper," I whispered and there he was, standing right before me.
