The air in the interrogation room felt tense and thick as if something sinister was bound to happen. The poor lighting of the singular lamp in the ceiling made the setting more sombre. Officer Lily Clearwater squared her shoulders and narrowed her slim eyebrows as she entered the room. A man dressed in dark leather armour sat in the chair before her, his back shown to her. A deep calm snigger emitted from the man as Lily approached him. She walked to the empty chair that stood across the table and the man but didn't take her seat. Lily crossed her arms and glared directly into the man's eyes. She blinked as she noticed the man had one eye white as snow and the other pitch black.
"Yes, I have that effect with my eyes, but they're hard to forget." He spoke softly with a smirk.
"Perhaps." Lily maintained her composure. "Why are you here?"
"Don't you want to know who I am?"
"I am aware that you are not as you appear."
The man scoffed, amused. "Perhaps. Does the name Efnisien sound familiar to you?"
Lily shook her head.
"I would have been surprised if you did. I'm a god of the Celts, an ancient religion nearly lost and well hidden in today's time." He paused and sat up, resting his folded hands upon the metal table. "To be precise, I am the god of evil."
Lily raised her eyebrows and sighed. "If you really are the god of evil, why let yourself get caught?"
Efnisien sniggered, and his smirk broadened. "I like your way of thinking, but I'm here because of you, Lily Clearwater."
Lily stared at him speechless. Suddenly a cold blade of a curved dagger rested at her neck, and beside her stood Efnisien with a splitting grin.
The man in the chair turned into black smoke and soon moved closer. From the smoke stepped out a tall, built woman. Her eyes glowed red as she chuckled. "Sadly, our theatrical amusement is cut short." She brushed with a hand a few black-violet hairs away from her face and over her shoulder.
"You performed well as always, Mayhem." Smiled Efnisien and held up a glowing green marble to Mayhem. "Will you do the honours?"
Mayhem chuckled. "With pleasure." Her fingers curled the marble and threw it rapidly into a corner. The marble shattered like glass into multiple shards, followed by a large green round portal, haloed with glowing ogham lines.
"As you mortals tend to tell, ladies first," Efnisien noted as he eyes Lily.
Lily clenched her teeth and walked ahead as Efnisien gave her a slight push to point the direction. Mayhem followed with a malicious grin upon her dark painted lips. The moment Lily stepped into the portal, it felt like stepping through a thin curtain of cold water, yet there was none. The sudden coolness rushed through her body that made her gasp sharply. Bright green lights of magic flowed like water around her in every direction; they shifted, blossomed and trailed in every step. It was mesmerizing that Lily couldn't dare to blink. The portal ended with a dark hole open straight ahead, cutting off the luminous green magic. Lily hesitated to walk on at the sight of the pit; before she could speak, the blade of the curved dagger cut into her skin and trailed across her throat. Rapidly Efnisien pushed her into the dark hole. She gasped while clasping her throat as her gravity shifted towards the darkness. Mayhem's cold cackle cut through the silence and darkness that engulfed Lily.
Lily blinked as if awakened from a slumber as she found herself lying on a bed of moss. She winced as her hazel-green eyes met crimson red. Mayhem smirked. Immediately Lily recalled what happened and reached a hand to her throat. There was a thin scar but no pain or stitches. "What's the use of killing you when we need you in the first place?" Mayhem walked around Lily leisurely. "It's just a precaution."
"Of what?" Snapped Lily.
Mayhem smiled but said nothing.
Over Mayhem's shoulder, Lily noticed that she was in the midst of a forest, but it was dark, nighttime. She began to look around, and above her, an owl was in flight but frozen as if time stood still. Lily blinked to be sure her eyes weren't deceiving her.
"Time is frozen here because Efnisien's first plan went awry. Without time, there is no life and no life; there is no colour. Rudianos is strong and no fool to meddle with, but everyone has a weakness. Even the god of time."
"What have I to do with Rudianos?"
Mayhem laughed. "Nothing! But your presence here will have a domino effect."
"How so a domino effect?" Questioned Lily.
Efnisien's sinister snigger made Lily wince and saw him approach her closer. "Isn't it obvious? Kidnapping you here means taking leverage elsewhere."
"What are you gaining from this?" Hissed Lily with narrowed eyebrows.
Efnisien laughed. "Must I spell it all out to you mortals? I thought my identity alone would speak for itself. Something you mortals seek and yearn for, power, wealth, control and for the bit of fun in it." He smiled at Lily as he stepped closer. "You are an entertaining and charming hostage."
Quick-witted Lily aimed with a balled fist square at Efnisien's jaw, but he caught her fist in his hand. "Like I said, entertaining." He repeated and pressed her fist down effortlessly. Lily grimaced with Efnisien's strength, but soon her eyes fell onto his dagger at the belt. Rapidly she grabbed for it and held it up against his neck. Efnisien chuckled. "Go ahead, cut me." He arched his head to invite the blade.
Lily blinked, surprised.
"Were you expecting a plead or even begging for life?" Efnisien smirked. He slowly lifted a hand to hers and pulled the blade closer to his skin. "Go on, I know you want to do it, and you can."
"No. No!" Shouted Lily and tears her hands away from the dagger, staggering to her feet and runs off. Rushing aimlessly past trees and bushes.
Mayhem's crazed cackle made Lily look over her shoulder. There was nothing in sight, although Mayhem's voice sounded close by.
Suddenly Lily's body froze in mid-air, and she couldn't move except breathe. There was a strong tug around her throat but not choking. Mayhem leapt from a tree in front of her. "You're quick, but that is the precaution I was talking about. And you fell for Efnisien's trick; his dagger is designed for magical purposes only. It can't kill." She laughed.
"What have you done to me?" Hissed Lily.
Mayhem walked up to her and ran tenderly with a finger across her neck where the dagger cut. "Why, putting you on a leash. It's a binding spell that ties you down to Efnisien. You can't outrun him or me." Her eyes glowed red.
"What are you?" Asked Lily.
Mayhem laughed. "I'm a spirit born out of confusion and resentment."
"Why-why are you with Efnisien?"
"Mayhem is with me because she chose to." Stepped out Efnisien from the bushes. "I sensed magic in you but didn't see that it is set in your physical abilities, your acute reflexes, swift movements and strength. But its origin is dark, yet here you stand as your natural self." With a gesture of Efnisien's hand and rapid sharp whisper, Lily was liberated and fell to her knees and hands. "You wear it better than others." Continued Efnisien. "That is one of many reasons why I chose you as a hostage."
A short summary answering your questions about my villain Efnisien and his ally Mayhem:
Does Efnisien have a domain or lair? No, he follows where his desires lead to and adjusts as he goes.
What is Efnisien willing to do to get what he wants? He'll go through all no matter the cost and consequences.
How far has Efnisien already gone? Very far by causing multiple outbreaks of war, massacres, murders and so on and so forth ... Now trying to get Ina (a human that is a distant blood descendant of Rudianos) and make her an evil goddess due to her strong powers.
Does Efnisien have a companion(s)? Only Mayhem and she's at the same time his sidekick.
Allies? None, Efnisien prefers to do things in his way or they are all dead due to his evil plots, twisted plans and tricks.
Why is Mayhem the way she is? She was born out of the emotions of confusion and resentment hence destined to cause chaos or as her name proceeds mayhem. Like Efnisien, Mayhem loves to trick and tease others around her and she always carries with her magical spear. It can be folded from a smaller size of a dagger to a long throwing spear and causes whatever it hits or cuts chaos. (similar to the cupid's arrow) She loves theatre hence her ability to shapeshift.
Efnisien has a white and black eye with curly shoulder-long blond hair with a few dark brown strands. Clean-shaven with a pale complexion but his entire body is littered with dark ink tattoos for his evil deeds and wears nearly at all times dark leather armour, ready for the next battle or combat. Mayhem is a tall built woman with black-violet straight hair spread like salt and pepper to her elbows. Her large eyes are red as crimson and they glow when emotionally stirred. As a spirit, she can appear in every form but prefers to mingle among humans. She's skilled with spears, daggers, shapeshifting and the use of magic. Haven't figured out what weird quirk Mayhem can have unless having a hair fetish as in snipping off a bit of her victims or enemy's hair but that would be creepy. *cringe* But in the story I'm planning and building she gets kissed by her enemy as a distraction and gets super mad about it.
