He had almost conquered the world.
Flames licked at the charred remains of temples, of palaces with their ornately carved pillars broken down into ashes. The towns beneath his mountain were deadly silent.
The heroes found him in his lair. It was a place recorded by ancient folklore, “under the ice and flowing stone”.
It was in Skeleton Valley; the heroes ended up near a creek that turned out to be lava. It was a depressing spot, and a dangerous one.
Nobody knew the villain’s name. It was simply The Thing, which had started to kill off the elders of the land a thousand years ago. There were times when he had disappeared and humanity flourished within the pathetic safety of farms and churches, yet everything crumbled into ruin once The Thing returned.
What more heartbreaking to see than the land you have laboured on for 20 years turn into salt crust? What more sheer terror to see people screaming and crying outside barred walls?
Those that are called Heroes, have holes in their hearts, people who were stripped of their identity by The Thing.
At the end of the full moon, they come forward in the huddled fire circles of remaining villages, with steady hollow eyes and grim footsteps, pledging revenge on The Thing.
And now they found it. Or more descriptively, him. The Thing that had wrought havoc on the world was a small boy, with carcasses strewn around him carelessly.
All the heroes screamed in anguish.
The Thing had their own face on it. The background of the lair morphed into the most horrible darkness that covered all of their senses.
Each time, The Thing allowed one person to survive from the horror. It would be fun, it thought to itself, that one day a Hero might gain enough knowledge about it to kill him.

I’ll answer some questions for this villain:

Where do they hide from whatever hero they are fighting?
He doesn’t hide. He kills and destroys in pitch blackness- nobody has seen him and survived except if they find his lair and he feels happy to let them get a hint. He’s too arrogant and in control of the whole situation.
What are they willing to do to get what they want?
The Thing finds destruction his only source of fun. They’d risk everything, even death, than boredom.
How far have they already gone?
To quite a large extent. The Thing only returns to its lair once they feel like the world should take a rest and rebuild itself for its entertainment. This is a very key reason for the hatred of the heroes.

Do they have companions? Allies?
he’s very lonely. The Thing was born out of an abyss of sin. He doesn’t know any human feelings of love or gentleness. He kills people too quickly to develop any.
Why are they the way they are?
Like I said.
And of course the basics of what do they look like and their personality.
A small boy with no face (reflection of other peoples’ faces) but no Heroes end up writing about it because they can’t go describe “my face”.
Just to throw a twist in there they have also have to have a weird quirk of some sort. 246Please respect copyright.PENANAFflbFFl3gJ
The Thing is so random and quirky idk what to say anymore. I just wanted to write sth and came here. I’m a newbie, thanks for having me.
