Charlotte Ashe wakes up to the sound of a shrill alarm, on a Monday, at 5:45 A.M. She angrily slams down on the button to turn it off and is rewarded with a loud crunching sound. She looks up sleepily. It would appear that she had smashed another alarm. Charlie swears and sweeps the pieces into a small trash bin by her bed. She was going to have to find a way to afford another alarm, she was too prone to smashing them and there was no way her mother could find out. Charlie gingerly opened her closet door as if it were made out of glass. For, to Charlie, it was. Charlie was a superhuman and had the ability of super strength and durability. To most that would sound awesome but the world Charlie lived in prosecuted people for having such abnormalities and she took great pains to hide her powers. She had to constantly wear baggy hoodies to hide from her parents the sudden toning of her body that had appeared almost overnight a few months ago. She had made a show of working out so it wouldn't be that surprising. But you could never be that careful. "Time for another day of accidently snapping pencils and bending the lock on my locker" Charlie said to herself wearily. As she passed through the house getting the various things she needed for school(Organization was never her strong suit). She saw her father getting ready for work rather hastily. Which is strange because his shift didn't start for another 2 hours. Her father worked long hours at some factory that Charlie couldn't remember the name of. He got home at 10:00 most nights, and he left at 8:00 usually but it would seem that he was leaving now. "Where you off too dad, don't you usually go in at 8:00?" Her dad seemed to deflate but he answered her in his low voice "Sorry sweetie, the factory is laying lots of the other Black men off. With all this superhuman nonsense the government isn't really worrying about us being pushed around anymore, so I gotta make myself look real useful." Charlie balled a fist angrily. It was enough that she feared for her life for one reason. She didn't need another one. Listen Charlie. She thought to herself. You can't be afraid of anything but the subdoers, they're the real threat. So, with that depressing pep talk she stepped out the door for another dreary day. Before she left she turned back and grabbed her good luck stone. It was fool's gold everyone told her but she would swear up and down that it was real. Either way, she didn't know why she took it. She just felt like she might need a little bit of luck today. So she tucked it into her breast pocket under her hoodie and stepped out to face the day.158Please respect copyright.PENANAgAy7VygqzY

At school Charlie got off the bus with all the other kids and headed for first period. Taking extra care not to jostle anyone. Once free of the crowd she went to check her bag to make sure she had everything she needed when she bumped right into someone. She felt her backpack fling all of her things as she stumbled. She heard a strange whooshing sound and suddenly the person she had bumped into had all her things in her hands. "You should really be more careful, you never know when you might run into someone, you nearly knocked me over." The girls words had seemed rude to Charlie but the way the girl said them seemed like she genuinely wanted to give advice. The girl was much taller than Charlie's 5'5 and dressed very popular girl stereotype. She had pretty bronze skin and looked kind and- Charlie realized she was staring when she blushed and took her books with a muttered thanks. She exhaled a long breath. Today was going to be a long day.158Please respect copyright.PENANAsj5GFmDrpd
Charlie exhaled a long breath as she walked into the door to her first class and walked to her seat at the back of the room, where she always sat. But, today there was some kid with dark red hair pale skin and such shocking green eyes in her seat.158Please respect copyright.PENANANPkNznaITK
Charlie let out a little irritated huff of breath, she always sat there. Apparently this kid was new and didn't know how things worked around here. Charlie would have told him to move if she had the guts but she instead opted just to sit in the seat in front of it and hope her 10th grade English teacher had mercy on them. The teacher told them all to take their seats or he would mark them absent. After all the shuffling was over as people took their seats the teacher started droning on about something, Charlie was distracted by the fact that the boy was staring at her from behind. Like he was studying her back for abnormalities. Charlie was just about to tell him off for being a creep when the fire alarm went off. Now, after the countless drills that the great people at Arbor View high school forced us to partake in you'd think that the students would leave in an orderly fashion. But it was more of a stampede, Charlie got hit in the face with a backpack in the crush of people trying to get out. Charlie had stood but felt it smarter to leave after everyone else had. She saw the boy was lounging in his chair as if he hadn't a care in the world, and when Charlie looked at him, question plain on her face. He just waggled his eyebrows and said "Watch out for the subdoers, they tend to be sneaky." And with that he stood up and left the suddenly empty room like he had all the time in the world. Charlie however stood rooted to the spot. Subdoers? Surely that had to be a blind guess? Right? Right? Charlie shook off the thoughts and reminded herself that there was supposedly a fire raging somewhere in the building. Or more likely than not some kid had pulled the alarm as a prank. Either way she needed to get out of the building. She was halfway down the empty hallways when the intercom crackled and boomed to life "No student is to leave the premises, this building is under the inspection of the Subdoers due to suspected Superhuman activity. Please remain where you are so that an authority can find you, oh and for any would be escapee's, anyone caught trying to leave the school grounds will be shot on sight. Good Day." Charlies blood turned to ice. Not only had that news been quite bad, but that also meant that the red haired kid knew something about this. At least enough to give her a warning. She had to find him, maybe he knew a way to get out. Charlie suddenly sprang into action, sprinting in the direction she saw him take. Now, usually Charlie made an effort to be slightly worse than average when it came to stuff like P.E but in her desperation now she would have made a trackstar look slow. As she rounded a corner to one of the hallways she came across two men with rifles and the subdoer uniform cornering the red haired kid. He was backing away slowly and Charlie saw him unfolding a pocket knife slowly behind his back. Charlie knew where this was going and knew that she should help but she ducked behind a locker instead. One of the subdoers hefted the rifle as they said "You really think we wouldn't find you here you freak!" The other made a snickering noise and aimed his gun at the kid too. Charlie couldn't believe this was happening. Two soldiers, with guns, she'd never even seen a gun in real life before, and now she was going to watch someone die. She realized at the last moment that he must be a superhuman. Maybe he had a chance. But Charlie doubted it. "You have three seconds to put your hands up and let us take you in you freak." said the second subdoer, voice just as harsh as his companion. "I've got a better idea, how about you both put the guns down before anyone gets hurt, yeah?" The boy spoke with a slight accent, Charlie thought it might be british or scottish. She wasn't sure, but next thing she knew the boy disappeared and reappeared in front of the second subdoer, at the same moment his knife was suddenly in the leg of the first one that had spoken. Wasting no time and capitalizing on his momentary confusion, the kid punched the second one in the gut. He wheezed and then the kid took the gun and slammed the subdoer in the face, a loud crack was heard and Charlie was sure that his jaw was broken. The other seethed in pain on the floor and the kid just looked at Charlie as if he'd known she would be there the whole time. "First time I've managed that on purpose." He said looking at the two men in pain "I'm Michael by the way" the way he spoke was as if he stabbed people on a regular basis. Perhaps he did. "C-Charlie" She stammered not even sure what had just happened. When did her world become so violent. She supposed it was just one of the risks that came with her title of "Superhuman". She tried to emulate his calm demeanor. "Uhm what exactly did you do to them, one second you were there and the next you just, vanished and he had a knife in his leg, with no time in between at all." He waggled his eyebrows and said "That's a secret, all you need to know is that we should probably get out of here, I had a friend tell me that this place was overdue for a subdoer raid but I figured it would be much later in the day. Goes to show what I know, huh?" His calm demeanor was throwing Charlie off continuously, and she decided his accent was definitely scottish. But it was very slight. Charlie shook her thoughts away for the second time and addressed Michael, "Alright, so we just need to defeat the subdoers and then we, what? Live in the streets?" He laughed and said "Don't be daft, we're going to leave unnoticed and then all will be good. It's not like their gonna remember us. Hopefully." Charlie wasn't convinced but she just motioned for him to go on. She just realized that he didn't question that she would want to escape. He really must have known that she was a superhuman. That alone was enough to creep her out a little. They got no more than two steps before Charlie heard footsteps pounding. At least 6 people, maybe more. "Perhaps I should have knocked out his fellow too...." Michael says sheepishly as Charlie shoots him a panicked look. "Don't worry to much, it should be fine." His accent became a lot more noticeable when he said that. Maybe he was more stressed than he let on. As the soldiers burst into the hallway Charlie grabbed Michael in a fireman's carry and ran the other direction. She heard a few shots miss her(as Michael Protested being carried) but moments before she could turn the corner again she felt a sharp pain in her ankle as the sharp sound of a gun went off.158Please respect copyright.PENANAG9ZFcQ9uhl
Charlie and Michael spilled to the floor and Charlie cried out in pain. Charlie felt more than saw Michael vanish and next thing she knew he was dragging her. He appeared to be struggling, due to her durability, her bones and skin were very thick, making her incredibly heavy. "Jeez what are you made of? Bricks? Metal?" Michael complained as bullets whizzed past. Thank god they were already obscured by the lockers partially, now they just had to get a little bit farther. Charlie thought. Not knowing exactly how but knowing that she had to Charlie struggled to her feet and pushed Michael the past the corner and knocked down the lockers as she went with a quick rip, they had always been loose due to being old. It wasn't hard, even in her weakened state. As her and Michael ran, her ankle shot a spike of pain up her foot every time she took a step. Charlie figured it was better than not being able to run at all, and the adrenalin in her body wouldn't have let her stop anyways. Another bullet ripped a gash in her left arm and she saw the secret behind her lame, but usable, ankle. While her skin wasn't bullet proof it appeared her bones were. So it meant that she could see the white through her torn skin, and that would have made her retch if she wasn't so terrified. Michael tiredly pointed to a door that led out and they shot through it expecting safety, only to see about a dozen more Subdoers and one of their elites. In shining high tech armor. Charlie sagged in defeat.158Please respect copyright.PENANAtKbJcchx75

No way were they escaping this one.
