A young woman sat across the table from her boyfriend. He was talking about his day at work and she was acting like she was patiently listening. She was actually thinking about how lonely she was. Even though she lived with her boyfriend and felt that she loved him, every day just felt stagnant. Her job as a telemarketer had sucked out what little soul she had long ago. She dreaded this part of her evenings. Listening to Tom boast about his daily accomplishments and how well he performed at work. He was a pipe fitter for a big company. They had just recently moved into a new house together and left behind a one-bedroom apartment. She thought that would have made her a bit happier to have a nicer home but, in the end, it really didn’t mean anything to her. Tom had no clue she was stuck in an emotional cascade of boredom and loneliness. She sat and poked at her dinner as she pretended to listen. She knew she’d be screwed if he stopped and asked her a question that required her to be listening to be able to answer properly.
She dreamed of a beach house, with no one else around. Some place where she could lay in the sun and not have to worry about anyone’s stupid day or be jealous of her boyfriend’s accomplishments. She missed playing the drums. When she was in high school, her and a bunch of her friends used to play music together. When she moved into her boyfriend’s apartment years ago, she had to let go of her drums because it would be too loud to play in his apartment. Now that they had a house, she resented him for it. Her hobbies, her dreams, and all of her friends she gave up and Tom had it all. He had everything that he worked towards and she had nothing. Then as if time had warped, she was standing behind tom as he sat at the kitchen table as he called out to her, “Ushioda are you ok—” as he was finishing his sentence she drove a butcher knife into his body multiple times and he fell to the ground dead.257Please respect copyright.PENANAH42PnUhP8c
